Queensryche Live Evolution
Queensryche: Geoff Tate, Michael Wilton, Kelly Gray, Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield. Additional personnel: Pamela Moore(vocals). Recorded live at The Moore Theater, Seattle, Washington on July 27 & 28, 2001. Includes liner notes by Paul Gargano. Despite major changes in the musical climate by the dawn of the 21st century, veteran metal prog-rockers Queensryche admirably stuck by their guns and never considered jumping on bandwagons. 2001 saw the release of the group's second live album, LIVE EVOLUTION, recorded in their hometown of Seattle, at the Moore Theatre. The concert featured songs from all eras of their career, and the double disc, 29-track album is split into four separate suites accordingly: EP/WARNING, RAGE/MINDCRIME, EMPIRE/PROMISED LAND, and HITNF/Q2K, featuring something for just about every Queensryche fan past and present. Highlights include the early classics "Queen of the Reich" and "Take Hold of the Flame," such mid-career fare as "Eyes of a Stranger," "Empire," and "Jet City Woman," and their lone top-ten hit ballad, "Silent Lucidity." Rounding things out are renditions of more recent compositions such as "Sacred Ground," "The Right Side of my Mind," etc. The breadth of material included creates a well-balanced portrait of this pioneering band's work. Junction 7
Personnel includes: Steve Winwood (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, clavinet, synthesizer, acoustic piano, organ, keyboards, clave, percussion); Jerry Hey (conductor, trumpet); Rebecca Mauleonb-Sanytana (piano); Des'ree (vocals); Jose Neto (acoustic & electric guitars); Nile Rodgers, Lenny Kravitz, Vernon "Ice" Black (guitar); Jimi Fischer (guitar, bass, drum programming); Mike McEvoy (dobro, synthesizer, piano, keyboards, synthesizer, bass, drum & keyboard programming, background vocals); Marc Russo (saxophone); Louis Fasman, Bill Ortiz (trumpet); Wayne Wallace (trombone), Narada Michael Walden (organ, keyboards, bass, drums, percussion, drum programming); Eugenia Winwood (background vocals). Producers: Narada Michael Walden, Steve Winwood. Recorded at Netherturkdonic Studios, Gloucestershire, England; Tarpan Studios, San Raphael, California; Le Crib, New York, New York; A&M Studios, Los Angeles, California. Steve Winwood teams up with producer Narada Michael Walden, and the result is a fine, multi-textured disc. Winwood's calling card has always been his gritty, soulful voice, and he uses it to good effect on tunes like "Spy in the House of Love." The tune opens things up with a bang--it's an up-tempo, funky jam about falling under the influence of that powerful emotion. The album continues with gospel-tinged ballads ("Angel of Mercy"), well-turned covers (Sly and the Family Stone's "Family Affair), and even a Cuban-inflected piece ("Got to Get Back to My Baby"). On the latter, Winwood employs some top-flight Cuban musicians, including percussionist Walfredo Reyes, and pianist, co-arranger Rebecca Mauleon-Santana. The tune is a real highlight, and defines some welcome new ground for Winwood -- he's come a long way from The Spencer Davis Group and "Gimme Some Lovin' ". All in all, a fine effort from an artist who keepshis musical gift well-tuned and his ear to the ground for new influences. SKU: 1004937

Mellow Gold
Personnel: Beck (vocals, guitar); Petra Haden (violin); Mike Boito (organ); Rob Zabrecky (bass); David Harte (drums). Producers: Tom Rothrock, Rob Schnapf, Karl Stephenson, Beck. Recorded at Karl's House and Rob's House and Beck's four track. "Loser" was nominated for a 1995 Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. The definitive outsider, Beck is a lonely voice raging against the stifling winds of conformity and complacency in both our mainstream culture and in our stock-model counter-culture (check out one of his first indie releases, "MTV Makes Me Want To Smoke Crack"). Growing up in heartland America, Beck dropped out of high school and cultivated his muse on a combination of traditional folk music and Delta blues, not unlike another legendary outsider from the heartland--Bob Dylan. Already well-known in the New York and Los Angeles folk scenes, Beck's stature as an independent artist was cemented by college radio programmers. While terms like "alternative" cameto mean next to nothing, Beck's 12" version of "Loser," released on the Bongload label, became an underground hit. The music he makes on MELLOW GOLD is an unruly synthesis of Americana, completely devoid of cliches as Beck stumbles on one fresh idea after another with a rare sense of discovery. At any given moment you might hear an Indian raga ("Steal My Body Home"), chicken-fried hip-hop ("Loser" and "Soul Suckin Jerk"), a John Lee Hooker/Rolling Stones shuffle ("Fuckin' With My Head"), post-modernist noise ("Mutherfuker") or echoes of down-home blues ("Blackhole"). Beck makes his diverse range of sources on MELLOW GOLD work. Each song sounds lived-in and alive, all run hurdy-gurdy through the meat-grinder of an original sensibility, fashioned with grow-your-own power and spirit on a humble 8-track recorder in his producer's living room. "Soul Suckin Jerk" is a freedom cry for every small town kid working away dutifully in some dead-end job just trying to imagine a better tomorrow. "Pay No Mind (Snoozer)" employs a series of sleazy images ("Give the finger to the rock and roll singer as he's dancing upon your paycheck/The sales climb higher through the garbage-pail sky like a giant dildo crushing the sun...the drugs won't kill your day job") to impale corporate rock upon its own pretensions and decry the malling of America. "Beercan" brings inner-city rap face-to-face with the traditional talking blues of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, animated by a remarkable series of samples over a percolating dance beat. MELLOW GOLD is a shot across the bow of business-as-usual rock. SKU: 1004015

Mysterious Traveller [SACD]
Weather Report: Wayne Shorter (soprano & tenor saxophones); Joe Zawinul (Fender Rhodes, piano, synthesizer); Alphonso Johnson (electric bass); Ishmael Wilburn (drums); Dom Um Romao (percussion). Additional personnel: Miroslav Vitous (acoustic bass); Eric Gravatt (drums). Recorded at Devonshire Sound, North Hollywood, California between February and March 1974. Includes liner notes by Hal Miller. One of Weather Report's most varied and exciting records, overflowing with daring keyboard chops, saucy, multi-ethnic rhythms, molten-hot textures and boundless energy. By this point, Zawinul was becoming the elder statesman of fusion, his mastery of his synth arsenal unparalleled by anyone save Chick Corea. But where Corea opted for the far reaches of Hubbard space, Zawinul rooted himself in virtual rainforests, where teeming exotic aggregates of organic life possessed their own unique grooves. On "Nubian Sundance," Zawinul's keyboards cut colorful swathes through dense jungle funk bottomed out by Ishmael Wilburn's drums and Miroslav Vitous' serpentine basslines. MYSTERIOUS TRAVELLER also sports the Weather Report standard "Cucumber Slumber," rippling curbside funk that finds Shorter waxing rhapsodically over Alphonso Johnson's booty-quiverin' bottomend. Superfine struts from the sultans of fusion swing. SKU: 6493156

Astrud Gilberto Now
Personnel: Astrud Gilberto (vocals); Eumir Deodato (acoustic guitar, keyboards, background vocals); Deodato (guitar, keyboards); Al Gaffa (electric guitar); Mike Longo (keyboards); Ron Carter, Bob Cranshaw, Patrick Adams (bass); Mickey Roker, Billy Cobham (drums); Maria Helena Toledo, Nick La Sorsa (background vocals). Recorded at Blue Rock Studios, New York, New York. Includes liner notes by Alain Beard. All tracks have been digitally remastered. The world's first exposure to Astrud Gilberto's melodious, cool yet sensuous voice was on the 1963 Stan Getz/Joao Gilberto international hit "The Girl From Ipanema," a song that was instrumental in popularizing Brazilian bossa nova on an international scale. Gilberto's influence (she alternates singing in Portuguese and English) can be discerned in the divergent styles of Stereolab, Everything but the Girl, and Sade. NOW was originally issued in 1972, after she'd left Verve Records--here, she incorporates influences of funk (a la Isaac Hayes) and the then-burgeoning style of jazz fusion into her languid, dreamy style. Performed by a stellar crew of musicians (including Ron Carter, Deodato, and Billy Cobham), NOW is classy, summery, late-night mood music that nonetheless maintains a warm, lively groove throughout. Standards
STANDARDS contains seven tracks that are previously unissued. Personnel: Jimmy Smith (organ); Kenny Burrell (guitar); Donald Bailey (drums). Producer: Alfred Lion. Reissue producer: Michael Cuscuna. Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, New Jerseyon August 25, 1957, July 15, 1958 & May 24, 1959. Tracks 1-5 originally released as ON THE SUNNY SIDE on Blue Note (1092). Includes liner notes by Ben Sidran. Digitaly remastered using 20-bit technology by Ron McMaster. The ultimate late-night smoky nightclub music, this collection of standards by Hammond-organ master Jimmy Smith is as swirling and atmospheric as the lounge it evokes, a vision made complete by a loosened black tie and a couple scotches on the rocks. Smith's sidemen, Kenny Burrell and Donald Bailey, on guitar and drums respectively, provide subdued, elegant support: Burrell with measured comping, Bailey delicately brushing the snare throughout. When Burrell takes the lead, which he does quite often on this disc, his solos are skillful, intricate and lovely. Smith's Hammond organ sound, fat as a sandwich and smooth as an ice cube, works wonders on favorites like "Little Girl Blue," "Bye Bye Blackbird" and "Mood Indigo." Smith's playing, when he is doing chordal blocking or skittering over the higher register with skillful fingers, exhibits a style that is both graceful and groovy. Taken from sessions in '57, '58 and '59, STANDARDS is at once retro and modern, since Smith augments the nostalgic nightclub feel with the help of chorus settings, volume shifts and other effects. All in all, however, the effect is unified one: a relaxed sound that simply drips with cool. SKU: 1004664

Spirit
Personnel: Jewel (vocals, acoustic guitar); Nedra Carroll (vocals); Jude Cole (acoustic guitar, mandolin, dobro, dulcimer, background vocals); James Harrah (acoustic & electric guitars); David Channing, Josh Clayton-Felt (electric guitar); Marty Rifkin (pedal steel guitar); Paul Jackson, Jr. (12 string guitar); Cameron Stone (cello); Patrick Leonard (piano, keyboards, Hammond B-3, programming); Flea, Paul Bushnell (bass); Vinnie Colaiuta (drums); Brian Macleod (drums, hand drum); Luis Conte (percussion). Recorded at Groove Masters, Santa Monica, California; Oceanway, Hollywood, California; Sound Stage Studio, Nashville, Tennessee; Bearsville Theatre, Bearsville, New York. Includes liner notes by Jewel. All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology. Aided by airy but sparkling production by Patrick Leonard, Jewel comfortsone and all with this collection. On "Hands," she sings that if she could tell the world just one thing, "It would be that we're all OK." Outside of her multi-octave, crystalline voice, therein lies a large part of Jewel's true appeal--a seemingly boundless compassion. To the Beatles prescription "All You Need Is Love," she adds one more ingredient: "Fill your lives with love and bravery/And you shall lead a life uncommon." While much of her yearning is spiritual and utopian, Jewel is not immune to the call of the flesh. In "Do You" she wants to stay with a lover because their teeth are straight and "the sex is good." It's not all about words however. There's a hip-hop touch in the rhythm section on "Down So Long," confirmed in the third verse when Jewel raps for about two bars. The natural sounds throughout the CD dominate the subtler synth touches. Acoustic guitar, tasteful wah-wah and spot-on harmonies make this an extremely intimate, personal sounding release. Just Be Free
Personnel: Christina Aguilera (vocals); Slim Man (background vocals); Bob Allecca, Michael Brown. Recorded at Reel Platinum Studios, Brown Productions, P.R.G., and Soundtrack, New York, New York. JUST BE FREE consists of a previously unreleased batch of recordings made by a (very) young Christina Aguilera in her pre-fame years. These songs, made when the singer was 14-15 and just dipping her toe into the music business for the first time, feature the teen siren backed exclusively by the synths anddrum machines of producers Bob Allecca and Michael Brown. Though the CD booklet bears a strong disclaimer from Aguilera, stating that she's not particularly proud of these recordings or pleased to see them released, there's really nothing for her to be ashamed of here. Despite a somewhat thin-sounding, demo-like quality to the production, Aguilera's voice is pretty as much as strong as on her later hit recordings, and the dance-pop material is not far afield from the sort of sound she'd tackle a few years down the line. If you're an Aguilera fan, there's no reason to think you'd be disappointed by JUST BE FREE. SKU: 1068566

J Mood
Personnel:Wynton Marsalis (trumpet); Marcus Roberts (piano); Robert Leslie Hurst III (bass); Jeff "Tain" Watts (drums). Recorded at RCA Studio A, New York, New York from December 17-20, 1985. Includes liner notes by Stanley Crouch. Here, Wynton is the only horn voice. He's front-and-center, but still plays with a wonderful sense of economy and passionate restraint. The unity of the music takes precedence over soloing here. Not that there's any lack of great solos, it's only that they don't overwhelm the collective efforts of the band. The band is outstanding. Roberts swings lyrically and thoughtfully, Hurst provides a warm, supple center and Watts is practically explosive! "Melodique" and "After" feature lovely trumpet-with-a-mute playing, recalling early '60s Miles Davis. Marsalis has absorbed Miles' approach while retaining his own voice. Fans of traditional jazz and of jazz trumpet in particular should take note of this album. SKU: 1009081

Angel's Egg (Radio Gnome Invisible Vol.2)
In retrospect, it's hard to believe both FLYING TEAPOT and its successor ANGELS EGG were released within months of each other in 1973. Each is an elaborate, distinct musical statement. ANGEL'S EGG is the second installment in Gong's legendary "Radio Gnome Trilogy," and itexpands upon the ground broken by TEAPOT admirably. Though the band was still pursuing their spacy art-rock direction, the sound here became simultaneously jazzier and more ethereal. Didier Malherbe's sax and flute took a more active role, as did Steve Hillage's elaborate guitar textures. An important personnel shift had also occurred with the arrival of drummer Pierre Moerlen, mallet percussionist Mirielle Bauer and bassist Mike Howlett. These three were very much of the fusion school. After singer/songwriter Daevid Allen's departure, they would turn Gong into a full-fledged fusion outfit, but with Allen's whimsical songcraft still the defining factor, they simply add a more sophisticated instrumental edge. ANGEL'S EGG is a bit more sophisticated than TEAPOT, but an equal masterpiece. SKU: 4127784

Swing The Heartache (Bauhaus Sessions)
2 LPs on 1 CD. Bauhaus: Peter Murphy (vocals); Daniel Ash (guitar); David J. (bass); Kevin Haskins (drums). Producers: Mike Hawkes, Dale Griffin, John Williams, John Sparrow. Engineers: Mike Robinson, Martin Parker, Martin Colley. Several radio shows in England feature artists performing "live" in the studio. Two of the most famous programs are the John Peel Show and the Dave Jenson Show. The DJs select artists and invite them into the studio to record several songs for broadcast. Bauhaus appeared on both the Peel and Jenson shows several times, and SWING THE HEARTACHE: THE BBC SESSIONS complies five of those sessions on one disc. Arranged in chronological order, the tracks include a number of songs that would subsequently turn up, in re-recorded versions, on albums or singles, a handful of cover versions, and an otherwise unreleased cut. Peter Murphy's acrobatic vocals define "A God In An Alcove" and "The Spy In The Cab," both from IN THE FLAT FIELD. Daniel Ash's haunted guitar playing is especially incendiary in HEARTACHE's live take on BURNING FROM THE INSIDE's "She's In Parties." Among the covers are versions of Brian Eno's "Third Uncle" and David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust." The unreleased track is "Poison Pen," a rhythm section workout with muted, frenetic drums. Also included is "Departure," a companionpiece to MASK's "Of Lillies And Remains" later also appended to the CD version of BURNING. SKU: 1007072

Give Out But Don't Give Up
Primal Scream: Bobby Gillespie, Denise Johnson (vocals); Robert Young, Andrew Innes (guitar); Martin Duffy (keyboards). Additional personnel: GeorgeClinton, Jackie Johnson, Susan Marshall (vocals); Charlie Jacobs (harmonica); Amp Fiddler, Jim Dickinson, Benmont Tench (keyboards); George Drakoulias (bass, drums); Henry Olsen, Marco Nelso (bass); Roger Hawkins, Tony Brock, Toby Tomanov (drums); Greg Morrow, David Minnick (percussion). The Memphis Horns: Andrew Love (tenor saxophone); Wayne Jackson (trumpet). Recorded at Ardent Studio, Memphis, Tennessee and Ocean Way Studio, Hollywood, California. Before transforming into druggy dance-groovers with 1990's awesome and influential acid-house single "Loaded," Primal Scream, led by vocalist/ex-Jesus and Mary Chain drummer Bobby Gillespie, started life as a crew of anorak-wearing guitar-popsters in the mid-'80s UK tradition of The Pastels or The Television Personalities. Four years later, Primal Scream reinvented itself once again. The cover's images of a neon Confederate flag and a photo of late Funkadelic guitarist Eddie Hazel scream the band's intent: GIVE OUT BUT DON'T GIVE UP is a '70s-style Southern rock album given a massive infusion of funk. Recorded at Memphis' legendary Ardent Studios by Black Crowes mastermind George Drakoulias, and featuring guest spots by everyone from George Clinton to Tom Petty sideman Benmont Tench, the album mixes its musical metaphors well. The clear highlight is "Rocks," a brilliant stomping single that sounds so much like the Faces that Rod Stewart himself later covered it. SKU: 1015002

Ultimate Gary Glitter, The (25 Years Of Hits)
Perhaps second to only Freddie Mercury, Gary Glitter was the most flamboyant figure of the early '70sU.K. glam rock movement. With a bouffant hairdo, snazzy clothes, high platform boots, and hairy chest exposed, to the delight of his female fans, Glitter rocked his way to the top of the British charts, enjoying a string of big hit singles. 1998's 16-track compilation, THE ULTIMATE, is a fine introduction to one of glam rock's leading artists. You can't go wrong with such glam standards as "Rock & Roll Pt. 2," "Do You Wanna Touch Me," "I Didn't Know I Loved You," "Doing Alright With the Boys," and "Oh Yes. You're Beautiful," which are all included here in their mascara-caked glory. SKU: 1037201

Have A Little Faith
Personnel: Bill Frisell (guitar); Don Byron (clarinet, bass clarinet); Guy Klucevsek (accordion); Kermit Driscoll (bass); Joey Baron (drums). Recorded At RPM Studios, New York, New York in March 1992. This 1993 album is a perfect culmination of the varied strains which have informed Bill Frisell's music. His long-time rhythm section of drummer Joey Baron and bass player Kermit Driscoll are on hand, and other voicings come from clarinetist Don Byron and accordionist Guy Klucevsek. Coupled with Frisell's own varied and unique guitar tones and approaches, the quintet ably wraps itself around a diverse set of popular, jazz, and classical compositions. Frisell and his quintet take us from the music of Aaron Copland and Charles Ives tothat of John Hiatt and Bob Dylan, with forays into works by Sonny Rollins, Muddy Waters, John Phillip Sousa and Stephen Foster. That everything works on its own, and sits so well together despite contrasting styles, speaks volumes for Frisell's musical vision. HAVE A LITTLE FAITH would be an ideal place to begin if you are unfamiliar with Frisell's work and are wondering where to start. Exhilarating and friendly, this label-defying work is a gem. Producers: Mark Mancina, Lebo M, Jay Rifkin. Recorded at Sony Music Studios, New York, New York. THE LION KING won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Musical ShowAlbum. LION KING director Julie Taymor notes that "the South African-style chorus led by Lebo M has become a principal character" in the stage version of Disney's unforgettable story. This chorus, as well as African rhythms, chants, and Zulu dialects are made an essential part of the score, rather than being a mere background as they were in the film version. Expertly intermingled with this specifically African sound are the new comedic songs written by Elton John and Tim Rice, such as "Chow Down," the evil hyena's rock opera theme song; and Zazu the hornbill's wacky "The Morning Report." Beloved songs from the film, including "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and "Hakuna Matata" are here as well, as are new standouts like the lovely, haunting "They Live in You," written by Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, and Lebo M. Snowflakes
Personnel includes: Toni Braxton, Shaggy (vocals); Keri Lewis, Donnie Scantz (various instruments); Sonny Lallerstedt (electric & classical guitars); Craig Love, Michael Thompson (guitar); Assa Drori, Anatoly Rosinskhy, Elizabeth Wilson, Shari Zippert, Brenton Banks, Jean Sudbury, Robert Sanov, IgorKiskatchi, Henry Ferber, Rebecca Bunnell, Irma Neumann, Don Palmer, Sally Berman, Mario Deleon, Henry Gronnier, Lisa Sutton (violin); Tom Ranier(piano, celeste); Vance Taylor (piano); Daryl Simmons (keyboards, percussion); Neal Starkey, Nathan East, Kayo (bass): Scott Meeder, McArthur, La Reid (drums); Tony Williams (programming); Tamar Braxton, Heather Mitchell, Chante Moore, Babyface, Anthony "Amp" Daniels (background vocals). Producers include: Keri Lewis, LA Reid, Daryl Simmons, Babyface, Toni Braxton. Engineers include: Thom "TK" Kidd, Craig Taylor, Dave Palmer. The sultry-voiced chanteuse's entry in the Yuletide release stakes should prove a winner with her fans. Anachronistically jazzy arrangements of songs such as "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "Christmas Time is Here" (yes, the PEANUTS song) vie with more contemporary titles like "Christmas in Jamaica" and the sexy "Santa Please." The latter should guarantee Braxton pretty much anything she wants in her Christmas stocking. Elsewhere the gentle "Snowflakes of Love" is wispily seasonal, and Braxton's rendition of "The Christmas Song" is simple and unaffected. SNOWFLAKES is both Christmas-y and sexy, and you really can't ask for better than that. SKU: 6574955

The late Dennis Brown's 1979 WORDS OF WISDOM's track list reads like a best of, and its list of musicians and producers like a Who's Who of Reggae. Included are signature Dennis Brown tunes like "Cassandra," "Should I," and "Money in My Pocket"(the second version which became the UK hit), roots tunes like "Rasta Children" and "Love Jah," and covers of Dennis Walks' "The Drifter," and Alton Ellis' "Ain't That Loving You." WORDS OF WISDOM underscores Brown's uniqueness--he was a superb singer of both lovers rock and roots material, and an underrated songwriter. This album is a gem amongst the towering stack of Brown releases. SKU: 1016742

Kind Of Blue
This is a multi-channel Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players. Personnel: Miles Davis (trumpet); Julian "Cannonball" Adderley (alto saxophone); John Coltrane (tenor saxophone); Bill Evans, Wynton Kelly (piano); Paul Chambers (bass); Jimmy Cobb (drums). Producer: Irving Townshend. Reissue producer: Michael Cuscuna. Recordedat Columbia 30th Street Studio, New York, New York on March 2 & April 22, 1959. Includes liner notes by Robert Palmer and Bill Evans. With BIRTH OF THE COOL, Miles Davis distilled a new tonal palette for jazz. As early as 1954, Miles reacted to the escalating chordal complexity of hard bop by fashioning an evocative blues based on a simple scalar pattern ("Swing Spring"). KIND OF BLUE was the ultimate fulfillment of this approach, with Miles providing his collaborators little more than outlines for melodies and simple scales for improvisation. By emphasizing the blues and the improvisor's melodic gifts, KIND OF BLUE precipitated a major stylistic development--modal jazz. Charles Mingus had experimented with pedal points throughout the 1950s, and the melodic freedom of Ornette Coleman's Atlantic sides was also predicated on freedom from chord changes. But KIND OF BLUE was to prove the most influential, enduring work of its kind. There was just such a vibe about these 1959 sessions--Miles' lyric genius and burgeoning stardom, the innovative voicings and rarefied touch of pianist Bill Evans, the electrifying presence of Coltrane and Cannonball--that some thirty-plus years after its initial release, KIND OF BLUE is still recognized as Davis' point of departure towards jazz's less-explored regions. Bill Evans' translucent chords and Paul Chambers' famous bass line herald the revolution that is "So What": Davis and Evans' taut, coiled lyricism stands in sharp relief to the saxophonists' labyrinthine elation. The fat, shimmering beat of the classic Evans/Chambers/Cobb rhythm team is an oasis of calm throughout the childish blues "Freddie Freeloader." Often credited to Davis, "Blue In Green" is an Evans masterpiece, in which the rhythmic oasis becomes a smoky mirage for Davis' minor reveries on muted horn. The waltzing "All Blues" is one of the smoothest, most swinging grooves in the history of jazz, while "Flamenco Sketches" reflects Miles fascination with the earthy melodies and brooding metaphors of the Iberian peninsula...a harbinger of his next masterpiece, SKETCHES OF SPAIN. KIND OF BLUE remains Miles Davis' most evocative piece of musical haiku. SKU: 1003183
