Visions
Recorded at Joe Gibbs Recording Studio, Jamaica. One of the classic reggae albums of the 1970s, Dennis Brown's VISIONS is one of the pinnacles of his amazingly fecund and prolific era with the legendary Joe Gibbs. These ten songs, simply recorded but full of near-apocalyptic dread and spirited exhortations, are Brown at his most powerful. Songs as direct as "Deliverance Will Come" and the tributary "Malcolm X" or as elliptical and knotty as "Concrete Castle King" or "Milk and Honey" all benefit from Brown's remarkable voice, truly one of the finest instruments the style has ever known. Brown also engages in some straight preaching, castigating rumormongersin the sneering "Say What You Say" and adopting a wise but never patronizing tone in the anti-runaway "Stay At Home." The band, featuring Gibbs' usual suspects, is tight and groove-oriented throughout. This is an essential 1970s reggae release. SKU: 4125851

Super Hits
Living Colour includes: Corey Glover (vocals); Vernon Reid (guitar); William Calhoun (drums). Although Living Colour already had a best-of compilation issued with 1995's PRIDE, Epic decided to release another collection just three years later, the budget-priced SUPER HITS. If you're looking for a straightforward overview and/or introduction to the band, SUPER HITS will do the trick. Most of Living Colour's best tracks are included, such as "Cult of Personality," "Type," "Nothingness," "Glamour Boys," "Open Letter to a Landlord," and others. Like its predecessor, acriticism of SUPER HITS is the omission of such gems as "Middle Man" and "Auslander," but nearly all of the band's most popular tracks are represented here. SKU: 1039267

3 (Limited Edition) [Remastered]
Also available in a 3-pack with SANTANA (1st LP) and ABRAXAS. Santana: Carlos Santana (vocals, guitar); Jose Chepito Areas (vocals, flugelhorn, timbales, conga, percussion, drums); Gregg Rolie (vocals, piano, organ); Michael P.R. Carabello (vocals, congas, tambourine, percussion); Neal Schon (guitar); David Brown (bass); Michael Shrieve (vibes, drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Rico Reyes (vocals); Luis Gasca (trumpet); Tower Of Power (horns); Mario Ochoa (piano); Gregg Errico (tambourine); Coke Escovedo (percussion, background vocals); Linda Tillery (background vocals). Reissue producer: Bob Irwin. Recorded at Columbia Studios, San Francisco, California; and live at the Fillmore West, San Francisco, California on July 4, 1971. Includes liner notes by Ben Fong-Torres. All it takes is a listen to the opening track and you know this band means serious business. From the very first measures of "Batuka," SANTANA III rocks on the eardrums like a ton of bricks. While the band's first album and ABRAXAS were widely celebrated at the time of their release, this masterful work steamrolled to #1 on Billboard for five consecutive weeks in 1971. At this point, the band is clearly more seasoned at arranging and making the studio experience work for them--the music is at once scorching, heavy, experimental, and disciplined. Indeed, the Santana band had already come a long way on its Latin rock-blues-R&B-funk journey, and yet this would be the final recording with the original Woodstock-era lineup, with guitar genius Carlos Santana and organist/singer Gregg Rolie at the core of the action. Every track is a "deep cut." "Batuka" and "Toussaint L'Overture"feature the kind of classic, wailing Santana guitar riffs that always inspire a few notches worth of volume increase on the stereo. The band's pulsating Afro-Latin rhythm section is in full force on these tunes as well, and makes real mincemeat of the uplifting favorite, "Everybody's Everything." SKU: 1001065

Hardball
In the film HARDBALL, an urbanized update of BAD NEWS BEARS, Keanu Reeves plays the coach of a kids' baseball team. Aside from the starpower provided by Reeves's presence, the film has another element in its favor; an accompanying soundtrack album full of hip-hop and contemporary R&B. The disc's roster is an appealing mix of youngsters (kid rapper Lil' Bow Wow) and tried and true vets (R. Kelly, Da Brat). The sense of fun inherent in the film can be experienced sonically onthe title song, where Bow Wow and cohorts including Lil' Wayne declare their skills in the game. The Notorious B.I.G.'s posthumous appearance on "Big Poppa" adds a little mack daddy flavor to keep the adults interested, but HARDBALL never gets too raunchy for minors or too corny for grownups. Sabotage
Black Sabbath: Ozzy Osbourne (vocals); Tony Iommi (guitar); Geezer Butler (bass); Bill Ward (drums). Additional personnel: English Chamber Choir (background vocals). Principally recorded at Morgan Studios, London, England. While many hard-core Black Sabbath fans consider 1975's SABOTAGE to be the band's most underrated album, it can also be pointed to as the beginning of the end for the original Osbourne-Iommi-Butler-Ward line-up. Osbourne was starting to feel disillusioned with the group, andthe seeds for his highly successful solo career in the '80s were being planted. That said, SABOTAGE was the last Sabbath album to truly contain all of the components that made the quartet one the most popular heavy metal bands of all-time, before it pursued less focused musical detours. The album's most surprising cut is undoubtedly the tripped-out psychedelic rocker "Am I Going Insane (Radio)," which would be included a year later on Sabbath's greatest-hits collection, WE SOLD OUR SOUL FOR ROCK N' ROLL. Other standouts include the crushing album opener, "Hole in the Sky," as well as the ultra-stimulated rager "Symptom of the Universe," which would be used later as an opener for Ozzy Osbourne's 1982 solo live album of Sabbath nuggets, SPEAK OF THE DEVIL. While those just discovering Sabbath should stick with such landmark recordings as PARANOID, MASTER OF REALITY, and SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH, there are more than just a few highlights on SABOTAGE. Blue Trane (John Coltrane Plays The Blues)
Personnel: John Coltrane (alto & tenor saxophones); Gene Ammons, Paul Quinichette (tenor saxophone); Pepper Adams (baritone saxophone); Donald Byrd (trumpet); Jerome Richardson (flute); Tommy Flanagan, Red Garland, Mal Waldron (piano); Kenny Burrell (guitar); Paul Chambers, George Joyner, Earl May (bass); Jimmy Cobb, Arthur Taylor (drums). Producer: Bob Weinstock. Compilation producer: Ed Michel. Recorded at the Ven Gelder Studios, Hackensack, New Jersey between August 16, 1957 and May 23, 1958. Includes liner notes by Stuart Kremsky. Digitally remastered by Joe Tarantino (1996, FantasyStudios, Berkeley, California). This compilation pulls together six long-ish numbers from six different releases dating from 1957 to 1958. The era was a particularly rich one for Coltrane, who had recently gotten off drugs and alcohol and played some legendary gigs with Thelonious Monk at New York's Five Spot. Trane was already well versed in the blues, and Monk had recently familiarized him with a fingering technique that enabled him to play polyphonically. Coltrane's genius as a soloist is evident on every track here. Surrounded by top-notch players, Trane plays with characteristic exuberance and spontaneity. The set begins with the stripped-down "Slowtrane," with just Trane's sax, the bass of Earl May and the drums of Arthur Taylor. "Traneing In" is augmented by the addition of pianist Red Garland and some nifty bass work by Paul Chambers, a preeminent player of the era. "The Real McCoy," on which Coltrane plays with an octet including two other saxophonists, is notable for featuring Coltrane on alto sax instead of tenor. The extended jam "Big Paul" is an homage to bassist Paul Chambers, written by Tommy Flanagan, whose piano sparkles on it. SKU: 1004407

Genesis Live [Remastered]
Genesis: Tony Banks (vocals, guitar, electronic piano, organ, Mellotron); Michael Rutherford (vocals, guitar, bass, bass pedals); Peter Gabriel (vocals, flute, bass drum, tambourine); Phil Collins (vocals, drums, percussion); Steve Hackett (guitar). Recorded at The De Montfort Hall, Leicester, England and The Free Trade Hall, Manchester, England in February 1973. Digitally remastered by Nick Davis, Geoff Callingham & Chris Blair (The Farm, Abbey Road, England). Aside from a portion of the box set, this is the only commercially available live document of vintage Gabriel-era Genesis. LIVE was recorded at the group's 1973 peak, and features hardcore fans' favorite lineup, including Gabriel and guitarist Steve Hackett. The flawless song selection favors tunes from the beloved albums FOXTROT and TRESPASS. The semi-baroque keyboards of Tony Banks and the whisper-to-a-scream dynamic of Hackett are displayed in all their glory. The songs tend toward the long side (not one isunder eight minutes long--prog-rock heaven!), giving the group ample time to work its complex, time signature-shifting, contrapuntal magic. Though we're denied the visual aspect of Gabriel's notoriously elaborate costume changes and onstage antics, the energy of his performance comes through in his urgent vocals, and he delivers some of his most sharply penned lyrics. Subsequent Collins-era live albums serve the legacy well, but this is the Genesis concert album with which to start. SKU: 1006799

Tantric [ECD]
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. The Enhanced portion includes a music video for "Astounded." Tantric: Hugo Ferreira (vocals); Todd Whitener (guitar); Jesse Vest (bass); Matt Taul (drums). Principally recorded at Cherokee Studios, Los Angeles, California. If this music sounds familiar, it should. Three of the musicians here were formerlymembers of post-grunge kings Days Of The New and here, joined by new lead singer Hugo Ferreira, they've basically recreated the Days' sound. Ferreira has a low baritone that mostly recalls Jim Morrison in full Lizard King roar, but he also has a lower register growl that recalls Scott Weiland or James Hetfield. The band's instrumental approach depends on massed acoustic guitars overlaid with metallic electric riffs, close, double-tracked and surprisingly pretty vocal harmonies, and a straightforward rhythm section pounding out a monster groove. It's a formula, in other words, that positions them on the historical continuum beginning with Led Zeppelin and running through Pearl Jam and beyond. SKU: 1069524

World Without Tears
Personnel: Lucinda Williams (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars); Doug Pettibone (electric guitar, mandolin, background vocals); Jim Christie (Wurlitzer piano, organ, drums); Taras Prodaniuk (bass). Recorded at Real Music Studios Incorporated, Los Angeles, California. Though it's ultimately a less balladic, morestylistically varied album than its dreamy predecessor ESSENCE, WORLD WITHOUT TEARS starts out with a slow-burning, reverb-drenched ballad, but then takes a sharp turn into sensual lyricism, pounding drums, and churning guitar on "Righteously." For some time, the dominant topic of Lucinda Williams albums has been the edgy appeal of dangerous, often doomed men, and true to form there are plenty of those on WORLD WITHOUT TEARS. Witness the tragic anti-hero of "Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings," the troubled guy with the "sexy crooked teeth" in "Overtime," or the psychologically damaged character whose "Sweet Side" still calls out to the singer. That's not the whole story, of course; there's also the raw, stomping blues of "Atonement," where Lucinda comes off like a frenzied hellfire-and-brimstone Old Testament preacher, and the hip-hop/Americana collision of the socially conscious "American Dream." Whether she's spitting fire or crooning sweet messages of solace, though, Williams is a strikingly communicative singer, and the mere sound of her voice lends an instant weight to whatever song it graces. Dusk [Remastered]
The The: Matt Johnson (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, treated melodica, tambourine, Fender Rhodes, Hammond organ, harmonica, programming, strings); Johnny Marr (guitar, harmonica, background vocals); D.C. Collard (piano, keyboards, Hammond organ); James Eller (bass); Dave Palmer (drums). Additional personnel: John Thirkle, Guy Barker, Chris Batchelor (trumpet); David Lawrence (flugelhorn, French horn); Ashley Slater (trombone); Danny Thompson (bass); Vinnie Colaiuta, Bruce Smith (drums); Zeke Manyinka, Paul Webb (background vocals). Recorded at The War Room, London, England. All tracks have been digitally remastered. DUSK continues Matt Johnson's lacerating examination of everything from social decay to his own tortured psyche, leaving no scab unpicked and no wound fully healed. What keep his songs from sinking into egotistical self-flagellation are his gift for catchy, funky, and even danceable music, and his knack for mirroring his internal conflict with universal concerns. Highlights here include "This Is the Night," featuring Johnson at his most vocally emotive and with a barreling, honky-tonk piano, and the beautiful "Bluer Than Midnight," a simple, acoustic track with piano, drums, and a trumpet. Also of note are the album's two singles, "Dogs of Lust," and "Slow Emotion Replay." The first highlights James Eller's dense bass line echoing Johnson's forceful vocals, while the second brings Johnny Marr's guitar and harmonica to the forefront, recallinghis stint with the Smiths. However when shot through with Johnson's lyrics and vocals, the song becomes much more personal than the Smiths ever were--the sound of a man resigned to his perceived fate, rather than reveling in it. The album also ends with a message that, if not quite hopeful, is at least one of positive action: "If you can't change the world, change yourself." SKU: 1074665

Forever Changes
Love: Arthur Lee, Bryan Maclean (vocals, guitar); John Echols (guitar); Ken Forssi (bass); Michael Stuart (percussion). Includes liner notes by Ben Edmunds. One of the first pop albums to become a cult classic, Love's 1967 masterpiece, FOREVER CHANGES, is the pinnacle of the L.A. freak (the locals' preferred term over "hippie") scene. Singer/songwriter Arthur Lee's lyrics are increasingly fragmentary and paranoid, foreshadowing the band's eventual drug-fueled collapse. Yet these drop-dead hip tunes are set in arrangements featuring Herb Alpert-style mariachi horns, lush middle-of-the-road strings, and other tropes of the easy listening scene, creating a more unsettling sense of tension than if the songs were given the usual heavy rock instrumentation. Every single track is a stone classic, although second songwriter Bryan MacLean's contributions, the haunted "Old Man" and especially thesimply gorgeous opener "Alone Again Or," deserve special consideration. FOREVER CHANGES belongs high on any halfway serious list of the greatest pop albums of the '60s. SKU: 5047544

Steal This Album
STEAL THIS ALBUM contains outtakes and previously unreleased tracks. Even considering the enormous popularity of nu-metal in the late '90s and early '00s, the initial mass commercial acceptance of System Of A Down was pretty surprising. OnSTEAL THIS ALBUM! the wildly eclectic group continues to push the envelope by even more aggressively fusing brutal, razor-sharp thrash metal with a distinctly Eastern European folk-inspired melodic sense and bizarrely humorous/politically incisive lyrics worthy of Frank Zappa or Jello Biafra. To top it all off, the songs rarely have traditional verse/chorus structures or much in the way of identifiable refrains. Amazingly, however, most of the music manages to be both intensely catchy and far more memorable than virtually anything by Korn, Slipknot, Mudvayne, or any of System Of A Down's other genre-mates. In fact, System Of A Down has less in common with these groups than with '80s everything-but-the-kitchen-sink types like Fishbone and Faith No More. STEAL THIS ALBUM is a powerfully creative statement by a group determined to expand the boundaries of nu-metal. SKU: 1077595

Unleash The Dragon (UK Version) [ECD]
Personnel includes: Sisqo, Dru Hill, Make It Hot, Lovher (vocals); Beanie Sigel, Ja Rule, Nokio (rap vocals); Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds (various instruments); Bruce Dukov (violin); Nate Morring (piano); Jae Dea (keyboards, bass); N8 (keyboards); Jarod Barnes (drums, percussion); Kiehl (programming); Shae Jones, Butler (background vocals). Producers include: Sisqo, Nokio, Montell Jordan, Warren Campbell, Babyface. Engineers include: Jane Fairchild, CJ Devilla, Anthony Jeffries. Recorded at Larrabee West, Los Angeles, California; The Tracken Place, Los Angeles, California; Enterprise Studios, Burbank, California;Record Plant, North Hollywood, California. UNLEASH THE DRAGON was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best R&B Album, Sisqo was nominated for Best New Artist and "Thong Song" was nominated for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and for Best R&B Song. Since 1995, whenever he hasn't been guesting on tracks by artists like Mya, Sisqo has been cutting his teeth with Baltimore's gritty soulsters Dru Hill. On UNLEASH THE DRAGON, he unfurls his soulful, sultry, and sensual voice in the solo arena. While the backbeats are of the Teddy Riley stop-start variety, his baritone vocals are like those of Luther, with just a touch of a Teddy growl. While the lyrics don't cover any new ground, do soul torch-songers really need to explore new topics? Love, after all, is eternal. Sisqo is aided in his coming out by a requisite cast of rappers. He chose the perfect reggae-drenched toasters for UNLEASH THE DRAGON in Beanie Sigel on the title track and in the underappreciated Ja Rule on the remix of "You Are Everything." The latter is one of the more alluring male siren songs, the best urban hang joint this side of Maxwell's best efforts; that is, of course, unless you also consider "Your Love Is Incredible" or "Incomplete." Okay, so Sisqo doesn't stray far from the Dru Hill formula, but it's an appealing formula that makes for an auspicious debut. SKU: 1042349

Blue Train (The Ultimate Blue Train) [ECD]
Personnel: John Coltrane (tenor saxophone); Lee Morgan (trumpet); Curtis Fuller (trombone); Kenny Drew (piano); Paul Chambers (bass); Philly Joe Jones (drums). Recorded at Van Gelder Studio, Hackensack, New Jersey on September 15, 1957. Originally released on Blue Note (81577). Includes liner notes by Robert Levin and Bob Blumenthal. With BLUE TRAIN, John Coltrane not only firmly established his own voice on the tenor saxophone, butalso prvoed his abilities as a bandleader and composer. The musicians on BLUE TRAIN, hand-picked by Coltrane himself, play superbly not only as individuals, which is to be expected of players of such high caliber, but also as a cohesive unit--a rare occurence in an era where "all-star" bands would come together for one session, then disband just as quickly. Coltrane burns through the opening blues, igniting the rhythm section with rapid flurries of notes and reaffirming his absolute mastery of both sound and medium. At this stage of his career, Trane was still occupied with blowing over increasingly challenging chord changes. His ideas flow, flawlessly executed, logically developed and easily accessible. His unique tone can be warm and sweet or sharp and insistent, but is always amazingly expressive. Coltrane packs more emotion into one phrase than most arists are capable of in a whole tune. And with BLUE TRAIN's token ballad, "I'm Old Fashioned," he proves that he can speak volumes without being wordy. Two of his compositions, "Moment's Notice" and "Lazy Bird," contain some of the seeds of harmonic exploration to be found in his later work. Moreover, they provide outstanding platforms, inspiring vigorous performances from the stellar band. Nineteen-year old Lee Morgan spins nice bop lines in a juicy, warm tone, belying his age with his extraordinary playing. And with the support of "Philly" Joe Jones on drums and bassist Paul Chambers (who gives an impressive bowed solo on the up-tempo "Moment's Notice"), this BLUE TRAIN does not stop. SKU: 1003514

Under The Western Freeway
Recorded at Floater, Modesto, California and Headcorders, Coulterville, California. Ladiesand gentlemen, please hold your calls, we have a winner. Modesto, California's Grandaddy smacks you upside the head with the melodic one-two punch of the opening tracks and seldom lets up after that. Broken-down synthesizers wheeze and squeak out melodies that pass "the old gray whistle test" with a vengeance (i.e. you'll be whistling them for weeks). UNDER THE WESTERN FREEWAY is an auspicious debut. With a couple of big, burly guys that adhere to the TAD school of haute couture and an undeniable vocal similarity to Neil Young, this group is a wonderful, left field surprise. SKU: 5046920

Fantastic Vol.2
Slum Village: Jay Dee, T-3, Baatin. Additional personnel: Busta Rhymes, Q-Tip, D'Angelo, Kurupt, Pete Rock, Jazzy Jeff. Recorded at Studio A, Dearborn, Michigan; Electric Lady and Unique Sound, New York, New York; RJ Rice Studios, Southfield, Michigan. The progressive hip-hop of Slum Village may use familiar elements (James Brown samples, simple, funky bass and drum samples, tag-team rapping, scratching interludes) as its building blocks, but the group's real talent lies in its ability to transform the commonplace into something new and striking. It's refreshing to hear a hip-hop group that doesn't fall into either the misogynistic, violence-promoting gangsta world, or the self-conscious, self-righteous tendencies of the more politically correct rap acts. It's even more impressive to hear it pull off a coup like this one. Slum Village is concerned with the same subjects that have occupied pop artists for decades; love, sex, cars, and neighborhood pride. The band delivers its tales with minimum attitude and much unexaggerated skill. FANTASTIC VOL 2 features a star-studded guest list, including Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes, and even retro-R&B king D'Angelo, who all add their talents to the mix. Ultimately, though, it'sthe distinctive, funky Slum Village sound that reels the listener in. SKU: 1032793

Careless Love
Personnel: Madeleine Peyroux (vocals, acoustic guitar); Dean Parks (guitar); Lee Thornburg (trumpet); Larry Goldings (piano, celesta, Wurlitzer piano, Hammond b-3 organ); David Piltch (bass instrument); Jay Bellerose (drums, percussion); Scott Amendola (percussion). Recording information: Market Street, Hollywood, CA; Venice Studios, Hollywood, CA; Paramount, Hollywood, California. Madeleine Peyroux's unique blend of jazz and pop was first unveiled on 1996's DREAMLAND, where she sounded like a postmodern heir to the smoky-voiced tradition that ran down from Billie Holiday through the likesof Karen Dalton and Judy Roderick. Though Peyroux made a splash with her debut, she quickly dropped out of the music scene, not to appear again until eight years later with the long-overdue follow-up, CARELESS LOVE. Here, Peyroux tackles material from a variety of sources; some songs were written expressly for her by such contemporary songsmiths as Jesse Harris (who penned Norah Jones's breakthrough hit, "Don't Know Why"). Perhaps most striking, though, are her interpretations of older compositions. Peyroux redefines the darkly yearning Leonard Cohen tune "Dance Me to the End of Love" as a sultry invitation rather than a heart-on-the-sleeve plea. Her lighter-than-air stroll through the clouds of Bob Dylan's "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" has a graceful ease that puts the song's many previous cover versions to shame. Throughout CARELESS LOVE, Peyroux--with highly sympathetic production from Joni Mitchell right-hand-man Larry Klein--proves fully up to the task of redefining the role of torch singer for the careworn 21st century. Music From Big Pink [Remastered]
The Band: Richard Manuel (vocals, keyboards);Rick Danko (vocals, bass); Levon Helm (vocals, drums); Robbie Robertson (guitar); Garth Hudson (keyboards). Producer: John Simon. Reissue producers: Cheryl Pawelski, Andrew Sandoval. Engineers include: Don Hahn, Tony May, Rex Updegraft. Recorded at Big Pink, West Saugerties, New York. Originally released on Capitol (7777 46069). Includes liner notes by Rob Bowman. The Band emerged from months of seclusion with this enthralling debut album. It followed a lengthy spell accompanying Bob Dylan, which culminated in sessions known as THE BASEMENT TAPES. Three songs herein were revived from those recordings, and the remainder showed a similar pastoral spirit. Where contemporaries sought expression in progressive music, the Band were largely reflective, creating atmosphere from traditional forms and distilling the results in an economical style. The Band's ensemble playing and rural voices were best captured on "The Weight," an elliptical composition that displayed their craft to perfection. Americana of every hue can be gleaned from this collection, the depth of which left a marked impression on audiences and musicians alike. SKU: 1040249

Robbie Robertson
Personnel includes: Robbie Robertson (vocals, guitar); Bill Dillon (guitar, background vocals); Tinker Barfield, Larry Klein, Abraham Laboriel, Hans Christian (bass); Tony Levin (Chapman stick); Manu Katche, Terry Bozzio (drums, percussion); Martin Page, Cary Butler (drum programming). Producers: Daniel Lanois, Robbie Robertson, Jim Scott, Gary Gersh. Engineers include: Jim Scott, Bob Clearmountain, Cary Butler. After dismantling The Band in the mid '70s, Robertson remained strangely inactive. Thus, the anticipation level was high when rumors of his impending solo album began to circulate at the tail end of the '80s. Rather than release a thowbackretro effort to satiate the hearts of fans thirsting after The Band's brand of backwoods roots rock, Robertson stepped firmly into the present day. With the help of producer Daniel Lanios, the album is enveloped with modern textures. Robertson admirably handles the bulk of the vocal chores (keep in mind that he rarely sang a note with the Band). Nonetheless, numerous artists are drawn into the fold to beef up Robertson's effective, but limited, vocal abilities. Peter Gabriel helps transform the beautiful "Fallen Angel" (a moving eulogy to deceased Band member Richard Manuel) into a bona fide hymn that does justice to Manuel's memory. Bono injects heat into the "Sweet Fire of Love" while Robertson growls like a man who's somehow found an extra reserve of energy to lay his claim, once again, as one of the premiere talents of his generation.
