It's All In Your Head
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Eve 6: Max Collins (vocals, bass); JonSiebels (guitar, background vocals); Tony Fagenson (drums, background vocals). Five years after Eve 6 broke onto the music scene as a trio of 18-year-olds, these Los Angeles natives returned with IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD, their third album. Continuing to toy with a sound that's an amalgam of styles, Eve 6 brings in different elements of emo, pop-punk, and straight-ahead rock. "Not Gonna Be Alone Tonight" finds the California threesome touching on the topic of unrequited love in a Box Car Racer style, and then there's the Green Day-flavored punk of "Still Here Waiting." Most impressive is Eve 6's ability to switch gears out of rock mode and include more unorthodox fare like the solo, acoustic guitar-only rendered "Hey Montana" and the gorgeous "Girlfriend" with a lush string arrangement that puts it on par with the group's 2001 smash "Here's to The Night." Even though the boys have still managed to find trouble by way of vocalist Max Collins's arrest for indecent exposure in a Pittsburgh hotel lobby, Eve 6 prove that they've managed to mature musically. In The Flesh [SACD]
This is a multichannel Super Audio CD playable only on Super Audio CD players. Personnel: Roger Waters (vocals, guitar, bass); Jon Carin (vocals, guitar, lap steel, keyboards, programming); Andy Fairweather Low (vocals, guitar, bass); Doyle Bramhall II (vocals, guitar); Katie Kissoon, Susannah Melvoin, P P Arnold (vocals); Snowy White (guitar); Andy Wallace (Hammond organ, keyboards). Recorded live at The Rose Garden Arena, Portland, Oregon; America West Arena, Phoenix, Arizona; MGM Grand Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada; Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, Irvine, California. Includes liner notes by Roger Waters. With IN THE FLESH, ex-Pink Floyd vocalist, bassist, and genius behind THE WALL Roger Waters releases a superbly recorded live album that covers his entire career. Acknowledging that his old band has performed DARK SIDE OF THE MOON many times, and that a live version of THE WALL was recently released, Waters delivers a set of FM staples, mixed with rarities that aficionados will appreciate. Floyd classics are given new twists, such as the female vocals on "Mother," and Waters' singing lead on "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2." Going back to Pink Floyd's psychedelic early days, the seven-minute "Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun" is performed both eerily and masterfully. "Perfect Sense (Parts I and II)" works as an excellent crowd singalong, and is wonderful companion material to the previously mentioned Floydalbums. "Each Small Candle," the only new song in the set, and the centerpiece of an upcoming album, shows that Waters is as creative as he's ever been. IN THE FLESH--LIVE is perfect for those who want to relive these dramatic performances, and those who want a document of a compelling live concert. SKU: 1070869

We Can't Dance
Genesis: Phil Collins (vocals, drums); Mike Rutherford (guitar, bass); Tony Banks (keyboards). Recorded at the Farm, Surrey, England between March & September 1991. On 1991's WE CAN'T DANCE, Genesis hit the ground running with its first studio record in five years. Long past the theatrical prog-rock of the Gabriel years, the trio of Tony Banks, Phil Collins, and Mike Rutherford had made the transition to MTV icons whose material was skewering toward a definitive baby-boomer audience. Despite the five-year layoff, Genesis managed to spin off five top-30singles that dealt with the kinds of adult topics that usually don't wind up on normally youth-driven pop charts. Some of the subject matter dealt with on these hits includes the hypocrisy of televangelists ("Jesus He Knows Me"), acidic parent-child relationships ("No Son of Mine"), and the disintegration of long-time relationships ("Never a Time"). Other topics dealt with on WE CAN'T DANCE include the unskilled workers who built England's railways in the 19th century ("Driving the Last Spike") and the homeless ("Tell Me Why"). There's also a requisite ballad for the adult contemporary market, "Hold on My Heart." SKU: 1004526

Mississauga Goddam [Digipak] [PA]
The Hidden Cameras: Joel Gibb (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano, marimba, glockenspiel, bass instrument, drums, tambourine); Kristen Moss (harp); Nana Jokura (violin); Karen Moffatt (viola); Don Kerr, Mike Olsen (cello); Phil Sequin (trumpet); Jennifer Scolfield (French horn); Scott Good (trombone). For an album so wrought with homoerotic themes and graphic sexuality, Joel Gibb sings it surprisingly straight. Meaning, it's rather easy to get lost in the classic timbre and inflection of his voice, before realizing the lyricsare rather blue. (Listen to "That's When the Ceremony Starts" for irreverent lines that stand out like a hooker in church.) As primary songwriter/musician/producer, Gibb takes the quirky subtlety of the Hidden Cameras' 2003 debut, THE SMELL OF OUR OWN, and turns it up a few dozen notches with more grandiose pop orchestration and further tales of sexual struggle and triumph. Rather brilliant arrangements sprawl out over the course of the album, as if Belle & Sebastian honed their melodic skills even further. The Hidden Cameras' AM-radio pop is thoroughly hooky, though it's the massive strings and melodies in songs like "Fear Is On," that elevate the band to its reputation as a "gay folk choir." Whatever the case, chances are music this randy is unlike anything in the church organist's repertoire. SKU: 6565849

Watertown
Recorded at Columbia Studios, New York. Includes liner notes by Ed O'Brien. All songs written by Bob Gaudio and Jake Holmes. Since Sinatra was pretty much the originator of the concept album, it was only natural that during a time when rock bands were acting like they invented the idea, he should remind everyone just who started the conceptual ball rolling. Unlike his early conceptalbums, though, which collected similarly-themed songs by different writers, WATERTOWN depended exclusively upon the songwriting team of Bob Gaudio and Jake Holmes. It's one of Sinatra's rawest, most immediate recorded performances, as he puts his all into telling the tale of a broken family from the point of view of a brokenhearted man (a character he's played more than a few times, both in art and in life). The sophisticated arrangements make subtle use of the rock world's innovations, making this a thoroughly contemporary album, striking in its originality and its unsentimental worldview. SKU: 1009172

Title TK
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. The Breeders: Kim Deal (vocals, guitar, drums); Kelley (vocals); Richard (guitar); Mando (bass); Jose (drums). It may have taken nearly a decade for The Breeders to deliver a follow-up to 1993's critically and commercially acclaimed LAST SPLASH, but TITLE TK does not disappoint, as Dayton's Deal sisters continue to serve up their brand of oddly patched-together pop. With lo-fi engineering deity Steve Albini manning the board, The Breeders return with a stripped-down sound that manifests itself on off-kilter cuts like "Sinister Foxx" and the shambling, gloriously dissonant "Too Alive." Although the pace throughout is decidedly low-key, the decidedly tart harmonies the Deals sprinkle throughout TITLE TK make for a singular listening experience, particularly on the druggy haze of the psychedelic nugget "The She," the plodding "Little Fury," and the rumbling post-grunge that is "Son Of Three." Elsewhere, The Breeders rev up the tempo with a reworking of the cow-punk-flavored Amps number "Full on Idle"and the newly penned pop-punk nugget "Huffer." TITLE TK is a welcome return from what could have been one of the '90s great one-shot bands. SKU: 1071628

Beast Inside, The
Inspiral Carpets: Tom Hingley (vocals); Graham Lambert (guitar); Clint Boon (organ, background vocals); Martyn Walsh (bass); Craig Gill (drums). Recorded at Ridge Farm, Surrey, England in November & December, 1991. Never regarded as the artistic elite of the Madchester scene (although, of course, they were not actually from Manchester itself), the InspiralCarpets have nevertheless produced a body of work which, if not paralleling the one-off impact of the Stone Roses, has marked them out as consistent achievers. The best of their albums are Life and this one, which maintains the group's traditions (a big organ sound, character-based lyrics, bad haircuts), yet also saw a bolder, more introspective songwriting effort, expanding on the narrative style expressed on their debut album. Roots Vol.1
Personnel: Merle Haggard (vocals, guitar); Norman Stephens, Chester Smith, Bill McGill, Justin "Redd" Volkaert (guitar); Norm Hamlet (steel guitar); Abe Manuel, Jr. (mandolin, fiddle, background vocals); Doug Colosio (piano); Eddie Curtis (bass); Johnnie Barber, Brooks Liggatt (drums); Theresa Haggard (percussion, background vocals). Includes liner notes by Norm Stephens and Jonny Whiteside. The 1990s found venerable country giant Merle Haggard slowing down, releasing only a couple of disappointing albums. Throughout the decade, Haggard seemed to flounder as he grappled with the apparent end of his commercial dominance. Then, at the end of the millennium, Haggard changed tack. He abandoned his effort to make radio-ready recordings and instead began producing intimate albums from his home studio. The result was nothing less than a full renaissance for Haggard, who sounds like a recently paroled convict enjoying liberty for the first time in decades. ROOTS is an unabashed celebration of the music Haggard has carried with him his whole life. Lefty Frizzell, Haggard's first childhood hero and the obvious model for Haggard's singing style, is honored here with stunning covers of five hits. Haggard dips into the catalogs of Hank Williamsand Hank Thompson for a pair of heartbreakers from each, and rounds out the collection with three originals. The close-miked, effects-free recording style employed here is a refreshing tonic to the over-processed modern country sound dominating the airwaves at the time of ROOTS' release. SKU: 1067519

Fear Of Music
Talking Heads: David Byrne (vocals, guitar); Jerry Harrison (guitar, keyboards); Tina Weymouth (bass); Chris Frantz (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Robert Fripp (guitar); Gene Wilder, Ari (congas); Brian Eno (sound effects, background vocals); Julie Last, The Sweetbreathes (background vocals). Principally recorded at Chris and Tina's loft,Long Island City, Queens, New York. FEAR OF MUSIC is the point of transition between the angular art-school new wave of the Heads' early work and the P-Funk-inspired modalism of their early-'80s output. While there's nothing as funky or visionary as REMAIN IN LIGHT here, the album represents a step in a new direction. At the same time, the Heads' white-knuckled neuroticism is pushed to the extreme here. Almost unrelentingly dark and paranoid-sounding, the tunes find Byrne at his most Anthony Perkins-like, and the interplay of the guitars, even more syncopated and thoughtfully arranged than on the previous album, provides a pointillistic landscape on which Byrne can let his twitchy persona run free. From the tense espionage tale of "Life During Wartime" to the global disaffection of "Cities," Byrne and company seem wound so tight you wonder when they'll snap. One of the only places to look for breathing room here is the funky, African-sounding "I Zimbra," with its highlife-influenced guitars and tribal chanting. This tune also points the way to the mind-blowing innovations that were just around the corner on REMAIN IN LIGHT. SKU: 1009090

1916
Along with 1986's ORGASMATRON, 1916, Motorhead's first release of the '90s, is the finest from the band's twin guitar line-up (which included Wurzel and Phil Campbell). Some longtime Motorhead fans wrote the band off after original guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke left in the early '80s, but, as the two aforementioned albums prove, Motorhead still had plenty of tricks left up their sleeve. 1916 is as close as Motorhead ever got torecording a concept album--some songs deal with the horrors of World War One, such as "No Voices in the Sky" and the title track. But there are several typical, non-message-laden Motorhead ragers, such as "I'm So Bad (Baby I Don't Care)," and a tribute to a certain legendary New York City punk group, "Ramones." SKU: 5032867

Re-inventions (Best Of The Vanguard Years)
Personnel includes: Sandy Bull (acoustic & electric guitars, banjo, oud); Billy Higgins (drums); Dennis Charles (percussion). Subtitled "Best of the Vanguard Years," RE-INVENTIONS culls eight instrumental pieces from Sandy Bull's releases for the Vanguard label. In theearly '60, guitarist and banjo player Bull began experimenting with overdubbing, having already embraced a range of musics not yet squirreled into the overly simplified category of "world music." The result was a trio of compelling and evocative albums. Occasionally joined by a drummer or percussionist, Bull tackled modal blues, ragas, jazz, bossa nova, and even rock & roll. His understanding of the various forms was deep enough to allow for his own agenda. Bull celebrates the common denominators that bind diverse musics. The 21-minute "Blend," a duet with drummer Billy Higgins, heads into an incredible single rhythmic note solo that dances along so hypnotically as to create its own gravitational pull. When first issued, this music wasn't so much ahead of its time--a listen to any of the sources from which Bull drew bears that out--as it was simply timeless. SKU: 1078621

Airs And Graces
Personnel includes: June Tabor (vocals); Nic Jones (guitar, fiddle). Unlike some folk singer, June Tabor possesses a style that is largely free of ornamentation and enunciates well, making her easily accessible to a wide audience. Although later albums from Tabor saw her developing a "chamber folk" style to accompany her interpretations of traditional and contemporary songs, her earliest performances were unaccompanied. Her 1976 debut album, AIRS & GRACES, is her least adorned: half the material is performed unaccompanied. "Queen Among the Heather" was learnt from the singing of Belle Stewart, one of her influences. Her version of "Reynardine" is highly regarded and makes for interesting comparison to Fairport Convention's folk-rockversion. The song that attracted the most attention at the time was "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" by Scots-born, Australia-based Eric Bogle. This moving account of the Gallipoli landings and their aftermath, as recalled by a crippled soldier, is bursting with barely restrained emotion, and concludes with some softly intoned lines from "Waltzing Matilda." The rest of the songs are given spare accompaniment by Nic Jones (guitar, fiddle) or Jon Gillaspie (keyboards, woodwind), and range from the traditional "While Gamekeepers Lie Sleeping" to John Tams' account of a departing funfair "Pull Down Lads." Hissing Of Summer Lawns, The
Personnel: Joni Mitchell (vocals, acoustic guitar, Moog, piano); James Taylor (guitar, background vocals); Jeff Baxter (guitar); Chuck Findley (flugelhorn); Victor Feldman (electric piano, congas, vibraphone); Max Bennett, Wilton Felder (bass); John Guerin (drums, Moog). All tracks have been digitally remastered using HDCD technology. A continuing move towards jazz was the most striking element of this record when first released. Larry Carlton and Robben Ford became two names to bandy around and appear cool. Indeed, their guitar playing throughout is superlative. The real strength, however, is the way in which Mitchell reached new plateaux with graceful ease. The remarkable "The Jungle Line" features the drums of Barundi and must be played loud to fully appreciate its avant garde quality. The openingline, "Rousseau walk on trumpet paths," has the listener reaching for the Dictionary Of Art. As understated and lyrically deep as anything she has recorded, it is a stunning piece of work. Hot Rocks Vol.2 (More Hot Rocks/Big Hits & Fazed Cookies) [SACD]
Full title: More Hot Rocks (Big Hits And Fazed Cookies). This is a Hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both Super Audio and regular CD players. The Rolling Stones: Keith Richards (vocals, guitar); Mick Jagger (vocals); Brian Jones (various instruments, guitar); Mick Taylor (guitar); Bill Wyman (bass); Charlie Watts (drums). Additional personnel includes: John Lennon, Paul McCartney (background vocals). Producers: Andrew Loog Oldham, The Rolling Stones, Jimmy Miller. All tracks have been digitally remastered. When you're anthologizing the Rolling Stones, one of the first things you must accept is the fact that you're doomed to failure. No one album can possibly tell the story of the band that's explored so many different musical avenues and recorded so many memorable songs. Credit where credit's due; HOT ROCKS, and this, its sequel, come perilously close. This set wisely doesn't attempt to be comprehensive. Instead, it just picks out various gems from different points in the band's development. Their R&B/roots period is well-represented by covers of "It's All Over Now" and "Not Fade Away." "She's A Rainbow" and "2000 Light Years From Home" are monuments to the bands psychedelic phase. "No Expectations" and "Let It Bleed" are bluesy tunes that cut to thequick, emphasizing the Stones' gift for visceral compositions. SKU: 6510675

Faithfully
Personnel includes: Faith Evans, Carl Thomas (vocals); Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, Loon (rap vocals); Michelangelo Saulsberry (various instruments, background vocals); Mario "Yellow Man" Winans (various instruments); Hijack, Gerard Barnes, Vada Nobles (keyboards); Adonis Stropshire, Meelah Williams, Andrew Wilson (background vocals). Producers include: Bink, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, Mario "Yellow Man" Winans, Michaelangelo Saulsberry, Faith Evans. Engineers include: Wayne Allison, Rob Paustian, Markus Ulibarri. "Can't Believe" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. FAITHFULLY was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Contemporary R&B Album. Even after many other factionsabandoned the artist formerly known as Puff Daddy, Faith Evans continues to stand by her man on the appropriately titled FAITHFULLY. She still makes her home on Bad Boy Records, and the newly christened P. Diddy takes his rightful place masterminding the project and guesting on "You Gets No Love." Throughout the album, Evans reiterates the reasons why she deserves the title "first lady of hip-hop." Though she's a dyed-in-the-wool R&B songbird, FAITHFULLY is a perfect example of how an album can be R&B and hip-hop simultaneously. Even beyond the contributions of guest rappers (including Loon as well as the aforementioned Mr. Diddy), there's such a strong sense of hip-hop urgency in the beats and production style that there's no question where Evans's musical heart lies. Chavez Ravine
After spending time producing various members ofthe Buena Vista Social Club, Ry Cooder has returned to the United States with 'Chavez Ravine'. Essentially a concept album, Cooder has taken inspiration from a rundown Mexican part of Los Angeles that was bulldozed in the early 1950's and replaced with the LA Dodgers' baseball stadium. The album sees Cooder resurrect street songs from the era, as well as writing his own compositions with help from singing talent that lived in the 'Chavez Ravine' area. SKU: 6589402

Daydream
Personnel: Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men (vocals); Dave "Jam" Hall, Jermaine Dupri, Manuel Seal (various instruments); Dann Huff, Tristan Avakian (guitar); Terry Barrus (piano); Lori Holland (Hammond B-3 organ); Babyface (keyboards, background vocals); Walter Afanasieff, David Morales, Satoshi Tomiie, Dan Shea (keyboards, synthesizer, programming); Steve Thornton (percussion); Gary Cirimelli, Randy Walker (programming); Kelly Price, Melonie Daniels, Shanrae Price (background vocals). Producers include: David Hall, Walter Afanasieff, Mariah Carey, Jermaine Dupri, David Morales. Engineers: Jay Healy, Kurt Lundvall, Andy Smith. All songs co-written by Mariah Carey except "Open Arms" (S. Perry/J. Cain). Samples included "Genius Of Love" (as performed by Tom Tom Club). DAYDREAM was nominated for 1996 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year and Best Pop Album. "One Sweet Day" was nominated for Record Of The Year and Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals; "Fantasy" was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance; and "Always Be My Baby" was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. On DAYDREAM, Mariah Carey's singing expands the panorama of its emotional release--her voice, having been a strictly powerful pure instrument, now taking on the thespian strategies of great vocalists. She has added subtle understatement to her bag of tricks. On the hit single "Fantasy," a groovin' piece of soulful pop based on a sample of the Tom Tom Club's "Genius Of Love," the chorus layers generous helpings of her voice. But rather than featuring the high-pitched lead she's famous for, the vocal parts reflect off each other in penetrating harmony. When she gets to cooing the key "I'm in heaven..." refrain as the fade-out hook, Carey's voice carries an enticing faux-innocence to match any of Madonna's good girl/bad girl come-ons. There is also her cover of Journey's "Open Arms," on which the a capella opening drifts into the stardust sound effects and the electric piano accompaniment, and the singer pours herself into a striking, minor-key declaration. There's also a more obvious modern R&B sheen to DAYDREAM than any of Carey's previous work. "One Sweet Day," her collaboration with Boyz II Men, sways with the sugary gospel cum synth-soul feel of the Philadelphia quartet's grandest romantic ballads. "Always Be My Baby," co-produced by Carey and Jermaine Dupri, expresses the simple, catchy melodic poise of the R&B girl-groups of the late 1950's and early '60s. And a Carey album wouldn't be complete without a track that rushes the listener onto the dance-floor. DAYDREAM'S nominee is David Morales' rolling "Daydream Interlude (Fantasy Sweet Dub Mix)" which explodes from a duet between Carey'svocal runs and a minimal keyboard part, into a house groove spurred on by tinklingly funky piano licks. Greatest Hits
This first single disc overview of Neil Young's eclectic career concentrates on the Canadian artist's 1970's output. In addition, the first three tracks are culled from 1969's 'Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere' - and the 1969 CSN&Y hit-single 'Ohio' is included. Young's 1980's material is represented by the politically charged 'Rockin' In The Free World'; whilst 1992's 'HarvestMoon' is the only track to be taken from the following decade. SKU: 6575042
