Natural Born Bugie (The Immediate Anthology)
Humble Pie includes: Steve Marriott, Peter Frampton, Greg Ridley, Jerry Shirley. Includes liner notes by Roger Dopson. NATURAL BORN BOOGIE is a re-sequenced version of Humble Pie's first two albums, SAFE AS YESTERDAY IS and TOWN AND COUNTRY, neither of which got much exposure in America. Success would come later, with the live album PERFORMANCE--ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE, in 1971. The two albums were showcases for co-founders Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton, both refugees from teeny-bop bands whose relief at finally being able to play their own way initially masked the fact that their styles--Marriott the rowdy blues rocker, Frampton more introspective, with a penchant for acoustic instruments--were rather less compatible than they realized. As a result, the first album is heavy on Marriott's heavy guitar army approach, whereas the second, as its title suggests, has more of a Frampton-influenced pastoral quality. SKU: 5064064

Mingus Ah Um [SACD]
This remastered edition ofMINGUS AH UM features six of the original tracks in unedited form and three bonus tracks. Personnel: Charles Mingus (piano, bass); John Handy (alto & tenor saxophones, clarinet); Shafi Hadi (alto & tenor saxophones); Booker Ervin (tenor saxophone); Jimmy Knepper, Willie Dennis (trombone); Horace Parlan (piano); Dannie Richmond (drums). Producer: Teo Macero. Reissue producer: Michael Cuscuna. Recorded at 30th Street Studio, New York, New York on May 5 & 12, 1959. Includes liner notes by Diane Dorr-Dorynek and Brian Priestley. Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by Mark Wilder and Rob Schwarz (Sony Music Studios, New York, New York). One of the five essential Mingus albums to own, and even if you are not a jazz fan this is still worthy of being in any comprehensive collection. The opening track, "Better Git It In Your Soul," rushes along at a furious pace and then there is a wonderful change of tempo into an a cappella and handclap pause. It rolls on, of course, but the nature of this track reflects the nature of Mingus who never failed to experiment (even though sometimes he failed). The personnel comprises John Handy III, Shafi Hadi and Booker Ervin (saxophones), Horace Parlan Jr (piano), Willie Dennis and James Knepper (trombones) and Charles Richmond (drums). Mingus whoops, shouts and holds it all together and then turns the pace majestically on numbers such as "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat. SKU: 6480773

Blue Oyster Cult [Remastered]
Also available in a 3-pack with TYRANNY & MUTATION and SECRET TREATIES. Blue Oyster Cult: Eric Bloom (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (vocals, guitar); Joe Bouchard (vocals, bass); Albert Bouchard (vocals, drums); Allan Lanier (guitar, keyboards). Producers: Murray Krugman, Sandy Pearlman. Reissue producer: Bruce Dickinson. Recorded at The Warehouse, New York, New York in October 1971. Originally released on Columbia (31063). Includes liner notes by Lenny Kaye. Digitally remastered by Vic Anesini (Sony Music, New York, New York). Although Long Island, N.Y.'s Blue Oyster Cult would become one of the top rock bands of the '70swith such metallic radio hits as "Don't Fear the Reaper" and "Godzilla," the band began as a spacey psychedelic band, as evidenced on the group's self-titled debut from 1972. While distorted guitar riffs hint at the band's future hard-rocking direction, the songs have a dreamy quality and sport such mysterious titles as "Before the Kiss, a Redcap" and "She's as Beautiful as a Foot." But Blue Oyster Cult's first three releases, (1973's TYRANNY AND MUTATION, 1974's SECRET TREATIES, and their self-titled debut), proved to be an important influence on a wide range of future bands, such as punkers the Minutemen and headbangers Metallica. While several tracks are well known to most B.O.C. fans (such as the rockers "Transmaniacon MC" and "Cities on Flame With Rock and Roll"), the more obscure selections are just as exceptional. The aforementioned "She's as Beautiful as a Foot" is downright eerie, while "I'm on the Lamb, But I Ain't No Sheep" is an early version of the band's later standard "The Red and the Black." BLUE OYSTER CULT remains one of hard rock's finest debuts. SKU: 1060957

Berlin [Remastered]
Personnel: Lou Reed (vocals, acoustic guitar); Gene Martynec (acoustic guitar, synthesizer); Dick Wagner (electric guitar, background vocals); Steve Hunter (electric guitar); Michael Brecker (tenor saxophone); Randy Brecker (trumpet); Jon Pierson (bass trombone); Bob Ezrin (piano, mellotron, background vocals); Allan Macmillan, Blue Weaver (piano); Steve Winwood (organ, harmonium); Tony Levin, Jack Bruce (bass); B.J. Wilson, Aynsley Dunbar (drums); Dennis Ferrante, Steve Hyden, Elizabeth March (background vocals). Recorded at Morgan Studios, London, England. Includes liner notes by Michael Hill. After the success of his glam-rockish TRANSFORMER, the expectation was that Lou Reed would plow deeper into commercial territory. As usual, Reeddelighted in confounding expectations. BERLIN is a song cycle that uses the decadence of its namesake and some Brecht/Weill-esque orchestrations to tell a story of two psychically damaged people and their doomed relationship. (Aided by Berlin producer Bob Ezrin, Pink Floyd would attempt a similar feat several years later on THE WALL). Far from the rock star poses of TRANSFORMER, BERLIN is lyrically and musically frank and blunt. The arrangements move from sophisticated, arch orchestation to naked-sounding acoustic sparseness, but the words are uniformly unflinching in their depiction of violence, addiction and desperation. Not for the faint of heart, BERLIN is a harrowing journey through the aforementioned tribulations, and one of Reed's most unusual, demanding, but ultimately rewarding albums. SKU: 1003858

Message In A Bottle
Original music composed by Gabriek Yared. Producers include: Matt Serletic, Malcolm Burn, David Foster, Carmen Rizzo, Don Gehman. The premise of this film--Robin Wright Penn finds a message in a bottle and tracks down its author, Kevin Costner--may be on the slim side, but the unabashedly romantic feelings it conjures up are perfectly complemented by the emotive, widescreen love songs that make up the soundtrack album. From the spare, wistful ballads of Lilith Fair vets Sheryl Crow ("Carolina") and Sarah McLachlan ("I Love You") to the soft, silky R&B of Faith Hill ("Let Me Let Go") this album is full of honest expressions of heartfelt emotion. On the more upbeat side, there's the syncopated pop of Beth Nielsen Chapman ("I WillKnow Your Love") and Edwin McCain's big-as-the-open-plains "I Could Not Ask For More." SKU: 4123352
