Mingus At Antibes
Originally released as a 2 LP set, this CD reissueis the complete concert. Personnel: Charles Mingus (acoustic bass, piano); Eric Dolphy (alto saxophone, bass clarinet); Booker Ervin (tenor saxophone); Ted Curson (trumpet); Bud Powell (piano); Dannie Richmond (drums). Recorded live at the Antibes Jazz Festival, Juan-les-Pins, France, July 13, 1960. Includes original liner notes by Robert Palmer. The claim that "This is one of the great Mingus albums," made in the liner notes to MINGUS AT ANTIBES, is no exaggeration. Recorded live at the Antibes Jazz Festival in 1960, Mingus is presented here at his emotional, ground-breaking best with an ensemble that was surely one of his finest. Mining the style forged on BLUES AND ROOTS (released in early 1960), the music is an adrenaline-charged amalgam of black folk forms: gospel, blues, call and response and collective group improvisation, all woven through the spacious structures of Mingus' fiercely complex compositions. All of this and more is evidenced on the surging, riotous "Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting," which opens the album, followed by "Prayer For Passive Resistance" in a similar vein. "What Love," based loosely on the chord structures of "What Is This Thing Called Love" is highlighted by loose, improvisational passages and a free-form dialogue between Mingus' bass and Eric Dolphy's bass clarinet. Elsewhere, Dolphy plays alto sax with great intensity and startling, conversational phrasing. A stirring performance, MINGUS AT ANTIBES captures the artist at one of the most exciting points of his career. SKU: 5069139

Everything
CD one contains the complete original UK version of POP. CD two contains all the EP's and 12" singles. Tones On Tail: Daniel Ash (vocals, guitar); Glenn Campling (keyboards, bass); Kevin Haskins (drums). Additional personnel: Juan Pedro Diego Ignatius Barraclough Y Valls (guitar); Caroline Lavelle (cello). Producers include: Tones On Tail. Engineers include: Ted Sharp, Derek Thompkins, Louis Austin. Includes liner notes by Craig Roseberry. Digitally remastered by John Dent. EVERYTHING! is right; it almost seems as though they picked through Daniel Ash's garbage for this puppy. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, as Ash probably throws out more good songs than most people write. Formed from the ashes of Bauhaus and featuring the above-mentioned guitarist, Tones On Tail are probably best remembered for their late '80s club smash "Go," which casual fans can pick up on any number of new wave compilations. EVERYTHING will work best forlong-time fans or completists who will appreciate the new-wave synthesizer of songs such as "War," or who want an extended remix of "Go." A lot of this material holds up surprisingly well, such as "Christian Says," and the bonus radio interview at the end of the second CD is almost worth the price of admission. Recommended for completists, and diehards who still worship at the throne of Goth. SKU: 4111013

VH1 Storytellers
Personnel: Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson (vocals, acoustic guitar). Includes liner notes by JohnnyCash. VH1's Storytellers series brings singer-songwriters to the screen with little more than their axe and their songs for company, as they tell the studio and home audience the stories behind their songs. Consequently, Cash and Nelson were subjects ripe for the plucking. The two living country legends occupy the stage simultaneously for this performance, often accompanying each other. Their voices may have gotten a bit more grizzled over the years, but Cash and Nelson show that they're still captivating performers as well as monumental songwriters. Both classic and obscure tunes are showcased, running the gamut from Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues" and Nelson's evergreen "Crazy" to the little-known Cash gem "Flesh And Blood." The repartee and good humor shared between the two in their between-song anecdotes adds an intimate, personal quality to what's already an album of some of the finest country songs extant. I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One
Yo La Tengo: Georgia Hubley, Ira Kaplan, James McNew. Additional personnel: Al Perkins (lap steel & pedalsteel guitars); Jonathan Marx (trumpet). Recorded at House Of David, Nashville, Tennessee. Yo La Tengo began life as one among hundreds of Velvet Underground-inspired bands, banging out dark, skittish tunes that displayed YLT guitarist/vocalist Ira Kaplan's affection for Uncle Lou as well as Yo La Tengo's commitment to creating a gently subversive groove. Over the years, the band, which also features Kaplan's wife Georgia Hubley on drums and vocals, has gone through more identity changes than David Bowie, from acoustic folk-rock to wailing, Sonic Youth-like guitarchitecture. On this album, the band consolidates their sound as they expand it, incorporating bossa nova, electronica and '60s pop into a gorgeous shimmering whole that is something more than the sum of its parts. The laconic-but-expressive vocals of Kaplan and Hubley provide the songs with just the right combination of detachment and naivete, and the trio (which also includes bassist James McNew) sounds like one person with six arms, three brains and one big heart. And don't worry; "We're An American Band" isn't the old Grand Funk Railroad song. SKU: 5048966

Superhero
Personnel includes: Brian McKnight (vocals, various instruments); Justin Timberlake, Nate Dogg, Fred Hammond, Pamela Dillard (vocals); Steve Eigner, Brion James (guitar); Bill Meyers (piano); Antonio Dixon (keyboards, synthesizer); Prescott Ellison (drums); Bashiri Johnson (percussion); Anthony Nance (programming). The St. Lunatics: Ali, Nelly, City Spud. Producers include: Brian McKnight, Brandon Barnes, Battlecat, Anthony Nance. "Still" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. "My Kind Of Girl" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals. "Love Of My Life" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Awards for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and for Best R&B Song. Super-smooth R&B star Brian McKnight made a major name for himself throughout the '90s by purveying a singular, immediately recognizable brand of romantic R&B. While he hasn't jumped stylistic ship per se on SUPERHERO, McKnight has takenthe opportunity afforded by fame and autonomy to stretch out a bit in whatever sonic direction happens to suit him. For instance, the opening cut is an all-instrumental orchestral interlude that sounds more like the introduction to a Steven Spielberg movie than to an R&B album. The title cut stands out not only for its quirky lyrics (which go so far as to detail the familial lineage of Superman), but for its hard rock guitar hooks, which betray a hitherto-unheard branch of McKnight's musical interests. Despite these forays beyond the usual fare, however, longtime fans will be heartened to know that there are plenty of slow, romantic sizzlers on SUPERHERO, and that McKnight's soulful falsetto can still light a fire as unfailingly as on his previous recordings. Never Die Young [Remastered]
Personnel includes: James Taylor (vocals, acoustic guitar); Bob Mann, Jeff Mironov (guitar); Dan Dugmore (banjo); Mark O'Connor (violin); Gary "Fingers" Taylor (harmonica); Michael Brecker (tenor saxophone); Don Grolnick (keyboards); Bill Payne (synthesizer); Leland Sklar (bass); Jay Leonhart (acoustic bass); Carlos Vega (drums, percussion); "Cafe" Edison A. Da Silva (percussion). Recorded at Power Station, New York, New York. All tracks have been digitally remastered. NEVER DIE YOUNG is a seminal event in the long recording career of James Taylor. Not only has the title cut become a significant staple in the singer/songwriter's cache of hits, but Taylor had finally reached a whole new stylistic plateau. The contemporary Taylor was no longer merely thefolk troubadour of the '70s or pop stylist of the '80s. Taylor's song craft had reached a level of maturity and poetic clarity achieved only by artists like Joni Mitchell or Sting. Expertly produced by the late jazz pianist Don Grolnick, NEVER DIE YOUNG covers a lot of musical ground from the Louisiana feel of "T-Bone" and country groove of "Runaway Boy" to the tender chamber music ballad "Valentine's Day" and the pop samba of "First Of May." Lyrically, Taylor is in top form as he creates verbal portraits and narratives of the utmost artistry without ever sounding flowery or artificial. Some little known gems contained herein include the refreshing "Sun On The Moon," the easy shuffle of "Sweet Potato Pie" and the beautifully crafted "Letter In The Mail." From start to finish, this is a collection of high-level material from one of pop's songwriting masters. SKU: 1034867

Gone
Personnel: Dwight Yoakam (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars); James E. Bond Jr. (conductor); Dean Parks (acoustic guitar); Pete Anderson (electric guitar, electric sitar, harmonica); Tom Brumley (lap steel & pedal steel guitars); Scott Joss (fiddle); Lon Price (tenor saxophone); Greg Smith (baritone saxophone); Lee Thornburg (trumpet, trombone); Skip Edwards (accordion, piano, organ, keyboards); Taras Prodaniuk, Dusty Wakeman (bass); Jim Christie (drums); Tempo (percussion); Jim Lauderdale, Joy Lynn White (background vocals). The Rembrandts: Phillip Solem, Danny Wilde (background vocals). GONE was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Country Album. "Nothing" was nominated for a 1997 Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. Dwight Yoakam always had an obsession with tradition. What has changed in the decade since he debuted with a famously pure honky-tonk homage to George Jones, Hank Williams and Buck Owens is his idea of what tradition is. For Yoakam, it now includes '50s rock, The Beatles, Cajun music and, most audacious of all, Memphis soul. Every song on GONE is pure to a fault. "Nothing" acquires its soul through a Southern organ, call-and-response horns, and perfectly placed strings; "Baby Why Not" features a blisteringly dead-on Cajun accordion; "Never Hold You" is a '60s guitar-rock raveup that employs the voices of pop revivalists the Rembrandts; and, with the exception of its Tex-Mex horn solo, "Sorry You Asked," a honky-tonker in which a guy bores a friend to death with the mundane details of why his girlfriend left him, is a dead ringer for recent George Jones. What's not pure is the sweep of the whole album, which ends up sounding unlike either roots-rock or traditionalistcountry. GONE sounds more like a roots-of-everything record. Yoakam and producer/guitarist Pete Anderson put it together with a vibrancy and urgency that makes it seem less of a look back, and more of a step forward for country music. SKU: 1003260

Talkie Walkie
Fourth album of retro-futurist electronica from FrenchmenJean-Benoit Dunckel and Nicolas Godin follows 2001's '10,000hz Legend'. A stylistic halfway house between the darker sound of that album and the atmospheric, vaguely psychedelic pop of their debut 'Moon Safari', it features the talents of Serge Gainsbourg's legendary string arranger Michel Colombier and Radiohead's longtime producer Nigel Godrich. Hillbilly Deluxe
Personnel includes: Dwight Yoakam (vocals, acoustic guitar); Pete Anderson (electric guitar, bass); Greg Leisz (lap steel guitar); Tom Brumley (pedal steel guitar); Brantley Kearns (fiddle, background vocals); Skip Edwards (piano); J.D. Foster (bass); Jeff Donovan (drums); Herb Pedersen, Dusty Wakeman (background vocals). This follow-up to Yoakam's sensational debut GUITARS, CADILLACS... is an equally compelling dose of his straight-ahead, irresistible Bakersfield country. In the mould of his heroes Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, Yoakam works a no-frills, traditional honky tonk sound, yet brings to the form a touch of twang guitar rockabilly and his own spin on convention. Yoakam's stripped down aesthetic, wiry guitar leads, and laid-back but stylized vocals (not to mention back-ups that occasionally sound like they're sung with tongue in cheek) hint that the singer likes to tweak the sacred cow of country, even as he rides it. The album includes four hit singles: "Please, Please Baby," a cover of Lefty Frizell's "Always Late (With Your Kisses), the true blue honky tonk gem "Little Ways," and a superlative, country-rockified reading of Elvis Presley's "Little Sister." Though these are more than enough to carry the record, the remainingtracks, including the cowboy boogie of "Smoke Along the Track" and country ballads like "Johnson's Love" (complete with weeping steel guitar, of course), round out the package nicely. An excellent sophomore installment from one of contemporary country music's brightest lights. SKU: 1070663

Ascension
Personnel: John Coltrane (tenor saxophone); John Tchicai, Marion Brown (alto saxophone); Archie Shepp, Pharoah Sanders (tenor saxophone); Freddie Hubbard, Dewey Johnson (trumpet); McCoy Tyner (piano); Art Davis, Jimmy Garrison (bass); Elvin Jones (drums). Producer: Bob Thiele. Reissue producer: Bryan Koniarz. Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey on June 28, 1965. Originally released on Impulse (95). Includes liner notes by Lewis Porter and A.B. Spellman. Digitally remastered by Kevin Reeves (Universal Mastering Studios-East). The album ASCENSION played a profoundly important role in John Coltrane's final period. Recorded in June 1965, almost exactly two years before his death, this session marks Coltrane's final stepping off point into free jazz. The album also marks a division for Coltrane's fans, as there are some that applaud his final escape from jazz tradition while others simply couldn't follow him into the great unknown. One way or another, ASCENSION refuses to be ignored. A stunning list of colleagues joins the legendary saxophonist on his final quest. Besides his famed regular quartet, avant-garde saxophonists Pharaoh Sanders and Archie Shepp, extra bassist Art Davis, and even trumpet star Freddie Hubbard, among others, produce an intense sonic assault. If you're sensitive to dissonant noise and uncontrolled barrages of sound, ASCENSION will offer you no comfort. However, the unbridled emotional onslaught that Coltrane unleashes here dwarfs any other artist's entire output. Love it or hate it, this is one disc that's sure to stay on your mind long after its din has faded. SKU: 1035664

Producer: Richard Bock. Compilation producer: Michael Cuscuna. Recorded in Indianapolis, Indiana and Los Angeles, California in December 1957 and April 1958. Includes liner notes by Don DeMichael. Both historically important and highly entertaining, FINGERPICKIN' serves up 10 recordings from before Wes Montgomery officially burst on the scene as a leader with his Prestige albums. The core ensemble will be familiar to anyone who's heard the Montgomery Brothers' GROOVEYARD album; Buddy and Monk Montgomery are the leaders here, on vibes and bass respectively, with Buddy contributing four originals. The material was cut on the West Coast in 1957, while Wes was still holding down his day job in Indianapolis and gigging six nights aweek on the home front. The guitarist gets to solo, but the ensemble sound revolves around the solid bop of the three-horn front line on the first four tunes, and his brother's vibes on the ballads and the final three selections (from the musical KISMET). Wes cuts loose on the title track, and while his dry, elastic tone is somewhat different from his sound on the Riverside records his chops are all here--the octaves, the block chords, and the dizzying lines. FINGERPICKIN' is a fascinating trip to the source. SKU: 1002061

Glitter
Personnel includes: Mariah Carey, Cameo, Ludacris, Da Brat, 22, Mystikal, Nate Dogg, Ja Rule, Fabulous, Eric Benet, DJ Clue, Busta Rhymes, Shawnna. Producers include: Clark Kent, Mariah Carey, Damizza, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis. Looking to go down the vocal-diva-becomes-movie-star path blazed by Diana Ross, Madonna, and Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey teamed with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis to executive produce the soundtrack to her film debut. Keeping with her character Billie, a struggling '80s singer trying to break into the biz via the club scene, GLITTER has a handful of vintage dance covers given a modern twist. Chief among these interpretations are a vintage electro-funk reading of Cherrelle's "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" and a hip-shaking version of the underground classic "Funkin' For Jamaica" renamed "Don't Stop (Funkin' For Jamaica)" and featuring Mystikal's rough-neck rapping. Mariah also represents her love of hip-hop with a groove-heavy remake of "Last Night A D.J. Saved My Life" featuring Busta Rhymes, Fabulous, and DJ Clue. Elsewhere, Billie's real-lifealter ego rips through a number of ballads with her powerful pipes, including the piano-driven "Reflections (Care Enough)," the heartfelt "Lead The Way," and the show-stopping "Never Too Far." Mariah's fruitful collaborations with Cameo (the funk-pounding "Loverboy"), Ja Rule and Nate Dogg (the loping reggae jam "If We"), and Eric Benet (the mid-tempo workout "Want You") also gild this stellar crossover project. Heavy Weather
Weather Report: Joe Zawinul (vocals, piano, synthesizer, melodica); Jaco Pastorius (vocals, fretless bass, mando-cello, drums, steel drums); Manolo Bandrena (vocals, percussion); Wayne Shorter (soprano & tenor saxophones); Alex Acuna (drums, percussion). Recorded at Devonshire Sound Studios, North Hollywood,California. Includes liner notes by John Ephland. Probably the best fusion album ever made, and the coming together of five precociously talented musicians. Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter assembled the unit with little knowledge that the complex music would become so accessible. Two compostions stand out; the graceful 'A Remark You Made', an evocative love song without words, and the hit single 'Birdland' (so successful it was even used by Akai for a major advertising campaign). On these two Zawinul compostions their genius bass player Jaco Pastorius gives a taste of what he was capable of. He bent the notes to make them talk, and that high octave solo on 'Birdland' is still a treasured moment. SKU: 5049658

Passion [SACD]
Full title: Passion: Music For The Last Temptation Of Christ. Personnel includes: Peter Gabriel (various instruments); Youssou N'Dour, Baaba Maal, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (vocals); David Rhodes (guitar); Vatche Housepian, Antranik Askarian (Armenian doudouk); Shankar (double violin); Kudsi Erguner (ney flute); Robin Canter (oboe, coranglais); Mustafa Abdel Aziz, Musicians Du Nil (arghul); John Hassell (trumpet); Nathan East (bass); Massamba Dlop (talking drum); Manny Elias (octabans, surdu, skins), Doudou N'Daiye Rose, Fatala, Billy Cobham, Manu Katche, Djalma Correa (percussion); Hossam Ramzy (finger cymbals, tabla, dufs, tambourines, triangle, mazhar); Mahmoud Tabrizi Zadeh (kementche); David Bottrill (drone mix); David Sancious (background vocals). Recorded at Real World Studios, London, England. All tracks have been digitally remastered. With this landmark soundtrack for the controversial 1989 Martin Scorcese film, Peter Gabriel helped usher in a whole new genre: the electronic world music album. True, ambient producer Eno and the new-music trumpeter Jon Hassell pioneered the approach in the early '80s,but Gabriel didn't merely recreate traditional sounds in the studio. He actually helped create an ongoing collaborative community of modernist world musicians like violinist Shankar, singers Baaba Maal, Youssou N'Dour and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the Qawwali singer from Pakistan whose estactic wail most Western listeners heard for the first time on the title track. PASSION effectively evokes the ancient wind-parched landscapes of Palestine and North Africa (where the film was actually shot). Though there is prodigious use of drones and percussive tonal "washes," the music is too rooted in history and local culture to be considered either minimalist or new-age. Much like the film, the soundtrack situates Jesus Of Nazareth in a specific time and place through the discerning use of "source" melodies and instruments. In turn, the viewer-listener is able to envision His original mission some 2000 years later. This is no small miracle Gabriel and Scorcese have wrought. SKU: 1082957

React [PA]
Personnel includes: Erick Sermon, Method Man, Redman, Keith Murray, MC Lyte, Al Green, Angie Stone, Sy Scott, Khari, Icarus, Red Cafe, Free, Rah Digga. Producers include: Erick Sermon, Bernard Alexander, Just Blaze, Mega Hurtz, Rock Rok, Rockwilder. Recorded at L.I.T.E. Recording Studios, Long Island, New York. One of the seemingly eternal questions in the hip-hop community is "how many albums does Erick Sermon have to make before people stop comparing him to EPMD?" While his pioneering former group has one of the most storied legacies in rap, Sermon has been making quality recordings of his own for some time, and if ever one of his solo albums deserved to be judged on its own merits, it's REACT. Throughout the album, Sermon drops his visceral, streetwise raps over a sonic framework full of funk, R&B grooves, and cutting-edge beats. Although everyone from original soul man Al Green to neo-soul superstar Angie Stone turns up for a guestappearance, it's Sermon's own powerful style that sets the tone and makes REACT elicit such a positive reaction. Rhythms Of The Heart
Personnel: Regina Carter (violin); Richard Bona (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric bass, percussion); Cassandra Wilson (vocals); Romero Lubambo (acoustic guitar); Rodney Jones (guitar); Werner "Van" Gierig, Kenny Barron (piano); Peter Washington (bass); Lewis Nash (drums); Mayra Casales (percussion). Recorded at Avatar Studios, New York, New York on November 24 & 30 and December 8, 1998. Includes liner notes by Greg Tate. This is violinist Carter's third album, and her first for Verve. On it, she makes good on the title's promise, exploring the rhythms of not just jazz, but Latin music, reggae, R&B, bossa nova and more.Things open with the furious hard bop of "Lady Be Good," on which Carter displays her formidable chops and makes plain her debt to jazz violin godfather Stuff Smith. Things take a more modern turn on the moody, reggaefied version of the Temptations classic "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone," which features a typically sultry guest vocal from Cassandra Wilson. Carter's rhythmic adventurousness is further highlighted by the syncopated, upbeat Latin groove of "Mojito" and the propulsive African flavor of "Mandingo Street." Throughout RHYTHMS OF THE HEART, Carter proves herself to be a well-rounded player, rooted in the jazz verities but modern and inquisitive enough to seek out new avenues of expression. SKU: 5048129

Get Skintight
The Donnas: Donna A., Donna R., Donna C., Donna F. Recorded at Toast Studios, San Francisco, California. As yet another group of latter-day rockin' rebounds, the Donnas afront the musical standards community with GET SKINTIGHT, a high-energy offering that's fueled by Ramones- and Runaways-caliber attitude. Donna F., Donna A., Donna C., and Donna R (who have all recently graduated from the proverbial "Rock & Roll High School") successfully continue the siren-sassy, drop-rock-and-party tradition they set with their first two LPs, THE DONNAS (Superteem, 1998) and AMERICAN TEENAGE ROCK 'N' ROLL MACHINE (Lookout!, 1998). Equal parts Shonen Knife, the Muffs, and L7, the Donnas blend winsome vocal harmonies into guitar-fueled barnburners with titles like "Party Action," "I Didn't LikeYou Anyway," and "Get Outta My Room." There's even a cover of the Motley Crue anthem "Too Fast For Love." GET SKINTIGHT is about as basic as post-'70s garage rock idolatry comes, and full of indelible classics that will never go out of style. SKU: 1015601

Hardin, Sharon Hicks, Don Johnson, Albert Lee, Dave Lewis, Bill Payne, Herb Pedersen, Frank Reckard, Tony Rice, Ricky Skaggs, Fayssoux Starling, Barry Tashian, John Ware, Cheryl Warren. One of the most influential and artistically unique country artists of the past 20 years, Emmylou Harris has created a body of work that continues to stand the test of time. This best of collection documents some of her most resonant material, including Paul Kennerly's "Born to Run," a song that revolves around finding freedom from the potential shackles of relationships. Like many country songs, these tunes highlight the trials and tribulations of love. Songs such as "Someone Like You" and "Pledging My Love" are about the wonders of true love, while "I'm Movin' On" and "(Lost His Love) on Our Last Date" are poignant reminders of love's pain and loss. Finally, two classicsare included here--"Mr. Sandman," and Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman's "Save the Last Dance For Me." SKU: 1071464

Blackstreet
Blackstreet: Teddy Riley, Chauncey "Black" Hannibal, Levi Little, David Hollister (vocals). Additional personnel: Knowledge [Richard Iverson], Chance [David Roland Williams],Nutta Butta [Menton Smith], T-Pirate [Antwone Dickey], Miggity Mark [Markell Riley] (rap); Serban Ghenea (guitar); Chad Hugo (saxophone); Tammy Lucas. Producers: Chris Smith, Leon Sylvers, David Wynn, Markell Riley, Michael "Flip" Barber, Erick Sermon, David Wynn, Teddy Riley. Engineers: George Mayers, Serban Ghenea, John Hanes. All songs written or co-written by Teddy Riley except "Love's In Need" (Stevie Wonder). Samples include "Outstanding" (as performed by The Gap Band), "Bon Bon Vie (Gimme The Good Life)" (Sandy Linzer/L. Russell Brown), "Papa Don't Take No Mess" (as performed by James Brown) and "Atomic Dog" (as performed by George Clinton). Having worked with great performers (Michael Jackson to name just one), it is no miracle that producer Teddy Riley once again comes forth with yet another successful act. This time, it's not Guy, or Wreckx-N-Effect; it's Blackstreet, a male R&B group consisting of four members including none other than himself, Teddy Riley. BLACKSTREET, the debut album, is the model example of today's R&B, filled with samples and subliminal reappearances of old school themes. Recreating one of hip-hop's classics, Blackstreet's version of Redman's "Tonight's Da Night" is a slow grooving love song using the same horn and vocal harmony to create an R&B favorite. Although no group can perfectly match Stevie Wonder's talent on any remake, Blackstreet brings back memories with their version of "Love's In Need Of Love Today." "Booti Call" uses interpolations of George Clinton's "Atomic Dog," questioning the primal male urge ("Why must I feel like that/Why must I chase the cat?"). BLACKSTREET is 20 tracks, either about love or sex, with full intention of setting a mood. SKU: 1006023
