Your Arsenal
Personnel: Morrissey (vocals); Boz Boorer, Alain Whyte (guitar); Gary Day (bass); Spencer Cobrin (drums). Recorded in England in 1992. Produced by the late Mick Ronson, this recordhas incredible tension, long before the overblown and unnecessary Morrissey/Rogan feud started. Beat group echoes, doom-laden lyrics and a full atmosphere that conjures up memories of Johnny Kidd And The Pirates, the Ventures and the Pretenders. Solo artists often mellow out and mature, but on this superlative recording, Morrissey paradoxically rocks more than ever and shows further creative maturity. "You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side" and "Glamorous Glue" are only two reasons to buy this album. How many more lyrical odes does he have left? SKU: 1005006

Like A Rock
Personnel: Bob Seger (vocals, guitar, piano); Shaun Murphy (vocals); Pete Carr, Rick Vito, Dawayne Bailey, Fred Tackett, Dan Huff, Mark Chatfield (guitar); Alto Reed (tenor & baritone saxophones, organ); Kim Hutchcroft, Mark Russo, Gary Herbick, Ernie Watts (saxophone); Jerry Hey, Gary Grant (trumpet); Bill Reichenbach (trombone); Bill Payne (piano, synthesizer); Craig Frost (piano, organ); David Cole (synthesizer); Chris Campbell (bass); Russ Kunkel, John Robinson, Gary Mallaber, Don Brewer (drums); Paulhino Da Costa (percussion); Izora Armstead, Martha Wash, Douglas Kibble, Laura Creamer, Donny Gerrard, Mark Creamer, Timothy B. Schmit, Don Henley (background vocals). Producers: Bob Seger, Punch, David Cole. Engineers: David Cole, Greg Edward, Shelly Yakus. Recorded atCapitol Recording Studios, Hollywood, California; Rumbo Recorders, Los Angeles, California; Criteria Recording Studios, Miami, Florida. Many '70s rock giants had problems adjusting to the '80s, but Bob Seger was one of the few classic rockers who had no difficulty making the transition. By polishing his raw and rocking sound while staying close to his lyrical subject matter, Seger retained his massive fan base and also gained many new fans, notably with his 1986 release, LIKE A ROCK. The best known song remains the title track, which enjoyed a new life in the late 1990s when it was featured on U.S. television commercials for Chevy trucks. But the highlights don't just stop there--also included is a bonus live reading of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son," as well the originals "The Fire Inside," "Lock and Load," and "It's You." Ommadawn [Remastered]
Personnel includes: Mike Oldfield, Paddy Moloney. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Ommadawn represents a creative peak for Oldfield that is often overshadowed by the hugecommercial success of his debut Tubular Bells. Oldfield employed the same format he had used on his previous two albums, with both sides of the album comprising a lengthy instrumental collage. This time he drew on a greater range of musical styles, using recurring motifs that had recognizable African, Eastern European and Irish sources (Paddy Moloney of The Chieftains being responsible for the latter). The album was also notable for the way Oldfield collaborated with the other musicians, drawing attention away from his image as the self-styled studio recluse. SKU: 1034850

Crow I, The
Producers include: Robert Smith & Bryan "Chuck" New, Machines Of Loving Grace, Brendan O'Brien, Trent Reznor, Rage Against The Machine. Engineers include: Bryan "Chuck" New, Nick Didia, Trent Reznor. Like his father, kung fu master Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee's untimely death was shrouded in controversy and mystery. Again like his father, Brandon Lee's death catapulted him into the realm of myth before THE CROWwas even completed. What remains is a movie shrouded in its own myths and ambiguities, a post-modern comic book anti-hero brought to life in a gothic noir world of vengeance and peril. The atmospheric menace of THE CROW has been compared favorably to the first BATMAN movie, but for fans of movie soundtracks, THE CROW soars miles above its competition. Because this is a rock and roll soundtrack that rings out with powerful snippets of tunes by some of the leading lights on the alternative scene, and functions as a powerful rock compilation in its own right. Nine Inch Nails' "Dead Souls" perfectly captures the tone of an anti-hero back from the dead to seek revenge, while the Cure's "Burn" and the Violent Femmes' "Color Me Once" impart a moody spiritual character to Brandon Lee's enigmatic hero. As for the more visceral action sequences, Rollins Band's "Ghostrider," Helmet's "Milktoast" and (especially) Pantera's "The Badge" provide an appropriately manic edge to fill out THE CROW's persona. Brian Setzer Collection 1981-1988, The
Includes liner notes by Steve Roeser. Brian Setzer was a driving force in twomajor revivals in popular music. With the Stray Cats, he made rockabilly cool again in the '80s, and with the Brian Setzer Orchestra, was one of the leaders of the big band/swing resurgence in the '90s. COLLECTION 1981-1988 focuses most heavily on his solo material, in which his songwriting incorporated influences that reach far beyond his seemingly retro roots. Songs such as "The Knife Feels Like Justice" and "Every Tear That Falls" show a modern-rock sound that harkens to Roy Orbison as much as it does to the Replacements and Tom Petty. The previously unreleased "Echo Park" shows even more dimension to Setzer, with its country-styled guitar picking and syncopated rhythms. "Thing About You" achieves its mood and texture with mandolin and Hammond organ. The influence of Elvis Costello is unmistakable in "Waiting for Desiree." "The Rain Washed Everything Away" uses lush strings and horns, possibly hinting at the future big arrangements that Setzer would use in the Brian Setzer Orchestra. This collection effectively shows that Brian Setzer is a diverse songwriter whose musical heart draws equally from the roots of the '40s and '50s and modern popular music. SKU: 1031218

Ole Coltrane [Remastered]
Personnel: John Coltrane (soprano & tenor saxophones); Eric Dolphy (alto saxophone, flute); Freddie Hubbard (trumpet); McCoy Tyner (piano); Reggie Workman, Art Davis (bass); Elvin Jones (drums). Recorded at A&R Studios, New York, New York on May 25, 1961. Includes liner notes by Ralph J. Gleason. Having explored all sorts of country cousins of the blues, John Coltrane evokes the spirit of mother Africa and Moorish Spain on this, his final Atlantic recording. Fellow crusaders McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones are joined by Reggie Workman as well as fellow bass virtuoso Art Davis, while Trane's new front-line collaborator Eric Dolphy and trumpeter Freddie Hubbard give him an immense sonic canvas upon which to reinvent jazz. OLE COLTRANE extends the forms, anticipating the freedom and far reaching spiritual pilgrimages of the Impulse! years. Miles' KIND OF BLUE and the music of Ornette Coleman suggested new improvisational possibilities. For Trane, they represented a way out of his harmonic labyrynth, a pursuit of simpler, more expressive modalities--offering even greater rhythmic/melodic complexity. "Ole" is electrifying, one of Coltrane's greatest collective achievements. Elvin Jones' hypnotic six-beat cymbal pulse, the strummed ostinatos of Workman and Davis, and Tyner's murmuring chordal drone form a syncopated wall of sound--equal parts Iberian dance, desert sirocco and evening raga. Coltrane's soprano emerges to enunciate the meditative theme, and with each successive solo--Dolphy's flute, Hubbard's toreador song, Tyner's impassioned strumming, the bassists' flamenco reverie--the rhythm becomes darker and more impassioned. Then Trane re-enters on his magic carpet, his soprano ablaze in a song of praise. Coltrane follows with "Dahomey Dance," a tippling blues in the manner of "Freddie Freeloader." Tyner's ringing accompaniment and lyric thunder clothes Elvin's triplet-inflected swing in vibrant raiment, as Hubbard's bumblebee trumpet and Dolphy's tangled bass clarinet yelping answer Coltrane's garrulous tenor in kind. Tyner's "Aisha" is an intricate romantic ballad, moving from a waltzing repeated figure to an evocative 4/4 groove bathed in Jones' luminous brushwork. The way Tyner anticipates each horn's lyric design and echoes Elvin's rhythms, the manner in which he orchestrates single-note melodies and immense two-handed harmonies into song-like choruses, all mark him as the decade's most dominant piano stylist. Best Of The Spencer Davis Group, The
Spencer Davis Group includes: Spencer Davis (drums); Steve Winwood (vocals, keyboards); Muff Winwood (bass). Say what you will about Traffic, Blind Faith, and his ongoing solo career, but when Steve Winwood leaves this earth, the song every radio and TV station will play in his memory will be "Gimme Some Lovin'."And for good reason: this single is a stone classic, the best two-and-a-half minutes British R&B ever produced, and yes, that includes the early singles by the Rolling Stones. The amazing thing was not that this skinny, spotty 16-year-old from the Midlands sounded just like Ray Charles, but that Winwood and his mates nearly matched the potency of that single not once, but twice, with the stunning "I'm A Man" and the ska-inflected burner "Keep On Runnin'." All three singles are the highlights of this 15-song compilation, which features b-sides, rarities, and solid album tracks alongside all of the group's magnificent mid '60s singles. SKU: 5048417

Recorded between 1965 and 1973. Includes liner notes by Dennis McNally, James Austin, David Lemieux and Connie Bonner Mosley. Digitally remastered using HDCD technology by Joe Gastwirt (Oceanview Digital, Los Angeles, California). THE GOLDEN ROAD was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards For Best Album Notes. The awe-inspiring 12-disc box set THE GOLDEN ROAD is a truly comprehensive document of the Grateful Dead's vintage period (late '60s through mid '70s). The format, which appends a generous number of bonus tracks to gloriously remastered versions of each of the band's albums from their Warner Brothers years, makes THE GOLDEN ROAD ideal for hardcore deadheads looking to upgrade their collection as well as those who've only dabbled in the oeuvre of these American countercultural icons. A double-disc of pre-debut demos and live cuts from the band's earliest days reveals their roots in both jug-band music and garage rock, while the late-'60s tracks find the Dead at the vanguard of mind-bending improvisation, pushing the frontiers of rock into strikingly original, often avant-garde realms. Early '70s recordings see the eventuation of the group into a pared-down meld of rock, country, and folk that both paid homage to their influences and helped set the stage for the country-rock that loomed so large later in the decade. Along with a bevy of rare photos and an insightful, informative booklet, the bounty of previously unreleased tracks offer new perspectives on the band's transformationfrom gritty blues-rockers into expansive, improvisatory envelope-pushers, with stops along SKU: 1067293

4 Nights At The Palais Royale
Sloan: Jay Ferguson, Chris Murphy, Patrick Pentland, Andrew Scott. Principally recorded live at Palais Royale, Toronto, Canada. Includes liner notes by Sloan. Sloan's live double-CD FOUR NIGHTS AT THE PALAIS ROYALE handily dispels the myth that rock & roll died in the face of hip-hop and electronica in thelate '90s. Not unlike Cheap Trick's LIVE AT BUDOKAN, the rabid fan response prods the band into delivering some top-notch performances. Early fare such as "People Of The Sky" and "Deeper Than Beauty" (both off of 1994's TWICE REMOVED), benefit from the kind of following that finds the crowd singing most of the songs without any vocal accompaniment from the band. Pop references run amuck and range from the British Invasion sunshine of "The Lines You Amend" to irresistible AM-radio ear candy like "Keep On Thinkin" and "Everything You've Done Wrong." Of all the material drawn from the four Sloan albums released prior to 4 NIGHTS, 1998's NAVY BLUES provides the most highlights. Late-era Beatles ("Suppose They Close The Door"), the Raspberries at their sing-along finest ("Iggy & Angus") and Kiss circa DRESSED TO KILL ("Money City Maniacs") are all rock & roll touchstones taken from the greatly overlooked BLUES. "I Wanna Thank You" even goes so far as to recall the sound of Queen's "You're My Best Friend." SKU: 1047618

Bone Machine
Personnel: Tom Waits (vocals, guitar, piano, keyboard, bass, drums, percussion); Larry Taylor (guitar, bass); Keith Richards, Joe Gore, Waddy Wachtel (guitar); David Phillips (pedal steel guitar, steel guitar); Joe Marquez (banjo, percussion); Ralph Carney (bass clarinet, alto & tenor saxophones); David Hidalgo (accordion); Les Claypool (bass); Bryan "Brain" Mantia (drums); Kathleen Brennan (percussion). Engineers: Joe Marquez, Shawn Michael Morris, Biff Dawes. Recorded at Prairie Sun Recording, Cotati, California. After completing the famed "trilogy" that consists of SWORDFISHTROMBONES, RAIN DOGS and FRANK'S WILD YEARS, Waits took his time following it up. At thetime, it was hard to imagine what crazed, exotic sonic vistas Waits had left unexplored. Further proving the mettle of his artistry, Waits pulled a masterstroke on BONE MACHINE. Instead of trying to reach new heights, he effectively plumbed the depths, stripping his sound down to the bare essentials (hence the title). At times, he sounds like a cross between an even more avant garde Captain Beefheart ("Such a Scream") and a hip caveman banging out a song on a row of tuned skulls ("Earth Died Screaming"). Despite all this willful primitivism though, his craftsmanship is at a peak, his thoughtful lyricism shining throughout. SKU: 5048749

Soul Men
Recorded on August 10 and October 4, 1967. In re-teaming with the songwriting duo of Isaac Hayes and David Porter, Sam Moore and Dave Prater managed to once again catch lightning in a bottle with their 1967 effort SOUL MEN. Also known as Double Dynamite, Sam and Dave just fell short of crashing the top slot on the pop charts with the classic "Soul Man," a song that continued to crackle over a decade later when it was reintroduced to the public and pop charts via a Blues Brothers cover. This smash is only the tip of this Southern soul iceberg that also contains the Prater-led call-and-response of "Broke Down Piece of Man," the brassy and sassy "I'm With You," and the mournful "Just Keep Holding On," featuring some major pleading by Sam Moore.More than on any other album, the duo's gospel influences come to the foreground on cuts such as the sanctified "Let It Be Me," with its dusting of organ and introductory mini-sermon, and "I've Seen What Loneliness Can Do," a perfect synergy of both men's emoting. SOUL MEN is quintessential Sam & Dave. SKU: 4112495

Prince & The New Power Generation: Prince (vocals); Mayte (background vocals); Tommy Barbarella, Sonny T., Michael B., Mr. Hayes. Additional personnel: Eric Leeds(flute); Mike Nelson, Kathy Jensen, Dave Jensen, Brian Gallagher, Steve Strand (horns); Ricky Peterson (keyboards); Airiq Anest (programming); Kathleen Bradford (background vocals). Engineers: Chronic Freeze, Ray Hahnfeldt, Tom Tucker, Prince (all tracks). Recorded at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, Minnesota; The Record Plant and Larrabee Sound Studios, Los Angeles, California. All songs written or co-written by Prince. For the artist intermittently known as Prince, the notion of spiritual death and rebirth has become the predominant theme in his work. Thus on the track "Solo," with its eerie liturgical ambience, sampled thunder and moody harp, Prince sings a keening falsetto confession: "Solo, my name is no one." Accepting all that as a given, this richly orchestrated set has the exploratory sound and feel of a classic Prince album, except that COME seems to be an attempt to explicate his legend once and for all ("Letitgo"), to make way for a new...well, your guess is a good as ours. The title tune mixes carnal and spiritual imagery in the classic Prince manner, as that ecstatic voice testifies over jazzy horns, big-band chord changes and a fat, greasy backbeat ("If you had a chance to see the future, would you try?"). Elsewhere, the sampled waves which open and close COME act as a recurring leitmotif, as Prince explores a series of jumpy dance grooves ("Pheromone" and "Loose!"), a moody tale of child abuse ("Papa"), a strutting R&B/hiphop anthem ("Race"), a brassy gospel-blues confessional ("Dark") and an explicit girl-guitar ecstasy ("Orgasm"). On COME, Prince appears before us one last time, a reminder of things past, a harbinger of revolutions to come. SKU: 1003281

Call Off The Search [ECD]
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Personnel include: Katie Melua (vocals, guitar); Chris Spedding, Jim Cregan (guitar); Mike Batt (piano, organ); Tim Harries (bass instrument); Henry Spinetti, Michael Kruk (drums). Recording information: 2003. Any notions of Katie Melua being a calculated Norah Jones knockoff fly out the window within seconds of listening to the jazzy chanteuse's wispy, sultry voice on her debut CALL OFF THESEARCH. Like her idol, the late Eva Cassidy, in tribute to whom Melua penned the fetching "Faraway Voice," the young singer is clearly one of those fortunate souls who feels music in every fiber of their being. It's somewhat surprising to note that the songs, which have the feel of Gramophone antiquity, were actually written by the singer herself or her mentor Mike Batt. Mixed in with the originals are some truly lovely covers including a heart-wrenching rendition of Randy Newman's "I Think It's Going to Rain Today" and a soulful version of John Mayall's "Crawling Up a Hill." Melua's vocals lie somewhere between the introverted pop quiver of Sarah McLachlan and the debauched croon of Billie Holiday, an otherworldly and appealing voice that makes CALL OFF THE SEARCH an intriguing first outing. Bad Influence
Robert Cray Band: Robert Cray (vocals, guitar); Walter Rand (alto saxophone); Mike Vannice (tenor saxophone, keyboards); Richard Cousins (bass); David Olson (drums). Additional personnel: David Ii (percussion); Philip Walker, Tony Matthews, Night Train Clemens (background vocals). Recorded at Music Lab, Los Angeles, California. Includes liner notes by Lee Hildebrand. Cray's second effort hews to the same musical template as TOO MANY COOKS, his under-appreciated debut. That is to say that BAD INFLUENCE is hardly the work of a blues puritan. There's just as much Memphis-style R&B and soul as blues in the mix, making for a potent fusion. Cray's guitar work is more impressive than ever, particularlyon "No Big Deal," where he rips jagged metallic lines out of his Stratocaster as if he were channeling Otis Rush. The two bonus tracks are particularly entertaining, as Cray offers a suitably rowdy version of Texas bluesman Peppermint Harris' often covered "I Got Loaded" and an intense, almost gospel-style reading of Booker T.'s "Share What You've Got, Keep What You Need." Big Bang, The (The Best Of The MC5)
MC 5: Fred "Sonic" Smith (vocals, guitar, harmonica, organ); Wayne Kramer (vocals, guitar, piano, bass); Rob Tyner (vocals, harmonica, congas, maracas); Michael Davis (vocals, bass); Dennis Thompson (vocals, drums, tambourine, percussion). Additional personnel: Charles Moore (vocals, trumpet, flugelhorn); Merlene Driscoll, Joanne Hill, Brenda Knight (vocals); Leon Henderson (tenor saxophone); Rick Ferretti (trumpet); Larry Horton, Dan Bullock (trombone); David Overtsteak (tuba); Pete Kelly (piano); Skip "Van Winkle" Knapp (organ); Danny Jordan (keyboards); Steev Morrhouse (bass); Butch O'Brien (bass drum); Ellis Dee, Dave Heller, Dr. Dave Morgan, Scott Morgan, Bob Seger, Terry Trabandt (drums, percussion); Brother J.C. Crawford. Producers include: MC5, John Sinclair, Jac Holzman, Bruce Botnick, Jon Landau. Compilation producers: Wayne Kramer, Jimmy Guterman, Gary Stewart. Engineers include: Danny Dallas, Bruce Botnick, Jim Bruzzese. Includes liner notes by Wayne Kramer and Jimmy Guterman. Digitally remastered by Dan Hersch and Bill Inglot (DigiPrep). Alice Cooper may have plunged a knife into the heart of the Flower Power movement, but the Motor City Five sharpened the blade. Militant musical revolutionaries at a time when peace and love were counterculture buzz words, the MC5 drew from such disparate influences as Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Archie Shepp, and Sun Ra to create a molten mix of screaming guitars, inflammatory lyrics, and thundering bass. The five explosive years covered by THE BIG BANG contains material from the group's three albums KICK OUT THE JAMS, BACK IN THE USA, and HIGH TIME and early singles and rare material. The live songs on JAMS find the MC5 at itsfire-breathing best as songs such as "Kick Out the Jams" and "Rocket Reducer No. 62 (Rama Lama Fa Fa Fa)" show off the fiery interplay between guitarists Wayne Kramer and Fred "Sonic" Smith. USA finds the MC5 reigning in some of its high-flying musical excesses in attempting to write more radio-friendly fare. The results ("Tonight," "Shakin' Street") are shorter, garage-rock-fueled nuggets short on rhetoric but long on hooks and harmonies. The unjustly ignored HIGH TIME marks the end of the MC5, despite such lost classics as "Sister Anne" and "Miss X." SKU: 1029827

TA
TA's inner booklet, which depicts a white-clad Trans Am looking like a cross between Emerson, Lake & Palmer circa LOVE BEACH and a pale Baha Men, might lead you to think that the album is all a joke. However, the trio's assimilation of their electro-pop influences is so seamless here that the music transcends retro chic and virtually becomes that towards which it raises a loving eyebrow. The opening tune "Cold War" is the greatest song New Order never wrote (would that Bernie and the boys had contacted Trans Am before releasing the former's limp2001 album). "Basta" one-ups the minimalism of early-'80s electro by eliminating everything but voices and percussion. The synth riffs on "You Will Be There" are close enough to vintage Missing Persons to make Dale Bozzio sigh with envy. There's still enough all-important ironic distance to ensure that no one really mistakes the provenance of TA, but the homage it pays to synthesizer heroes of the past is obviously heartfelt. Around The Sun (+DVDA) [Digipak]
This release includes both a regular audio CD and a DVD-Audio Disc, playable on most DVD players. To take advantage of DVD-A sound attributes, a DVD-A compatible player is required. R.E.M.: Michael Stipe (vocals); Peter Buck (guitar); Mike Mills (bass guitar). Additional personnel: Q-Tip (rap vocals); Ken Stringfellow, Scott McCaughey, Bill Rieflin, Jamie Candiloro, Hahn Rowe. The follow-up to 2001's laid-back REVEAL, AROUND THE SUN finds R.E.M. mining a similar vein of dreamy, mellow rock. "Leaving New York" sets the tone with Peter Buck's chiming guitar and Michael Stipe's plaintive vocals at the fore, while "Electron Blue" continues the band's occasional forays into electronic territorywith keyboard-driven atmospherics. Other standout tracks include the haunting "The Outsiders" (which features rapper Q-Tip, recalling OUT OF TIME's "Radio Song" with KRS-One in execution if not in tone) and the folky, defiant "Final Straw," a blatant condemnation of fear-instilling governmental policies. Not as exploratory as other latter-day R.E.M. albums NEW ADVENTURES IN HI-FI (1996) and UP (1998), AROUND THE SUN occasionally echoes the ensemble's lauded AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE's laconic feel, though it doesn't quite match that record's gravitas. In any case, this outing displays the 24-year-old band in a surprisingly relaxed and comfortable mode, and who says that's a bad thing. SKU: 6581338

Private Dancer (Centenary Edition)
Personnel includes: Tina Turner (vocals); Terry Britten (guitar, background vocals); Jeff Beck, Ray Russell, David Walker (guitar); Wilton Felder (saxophone, bass); Gary Barnacle (saxophone); Joe Sample (piano, synthesizer); Rubert Hine (keyboards, bass, programming, background vocals); Nick Glennie Smith (keyboards); Greg Walsh (synthesizer, programming); John Illsley (bass); Terry Williams, Ndugu Chancler (drums); Simon Morton, Frank Ricotti (percussion); Martyn Ware (programming, background vocals); David Ervin (programming); Cy Curnin, Tessa Niles, Glen Gregory, Gwen Evans, Jessica Williams, Alex Brown (background vocals). Producers include: Rupert Hine, Terry Britten, Joe Sample, Wilton Felder, Ndugu Chancler. Engineers include: John Hudson, Greg Walsh, F. Byron Clark. In 1984, Tina Turner mounted one of the greatest comebacks in music history. Coming after many years without a hit, PRIVATE DANCER proved to be a monster seller for Turner, spawning three smash singles. At 45 years old, Turner was a superstar-again. PRIVATE DANCER is the strongest album of Turner's career. The infectious "What's Love Got to Do With it" became an MTV staple. The title track, written by Mark Knopfler, features Jeff Beck on guitar. Beck truly shines on the rockin' "Steel Claw," where he delivers ablistering solo. Turner lends her distinctive, throaty vocals to Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" and David Bowie's "1984." Bonus tracks abound on this deluxe reissue. The rocker "I Wrote a Letter" finds Turner proclaiming that her lover can "make a white girl sing the blues." "Rock N Roll Widow" is a tender tale of a wife left lonely while her musician husband is on the road. "Don't Rush the Good Things" is an up-tempo number that stresses the importance of enjoying life. "When I Was Young" is a non-repentant look back on Turner's wild years. PRIVATE DANCER is a fantastic effort by one of the premier female rockers. SKU: 4123460

Innervisions [Remastered]
Personnel: Stevie Wonder (vocals, various instruments, acoustic & Fender Rhodes pianos, Moog bass, synthesizer, drums); Dean Parks, Ralph Hammer (acoustic guitar); David "T" Walker (electric guitar); Clarence Bell (organ); Malcolm Cecil, Scott Edwards, WillieWeeks (bass); Larry "Nastyee" Latimer (congas); Yusuf Roahman (shaker); Sheila Wilkerson (bongos, Latin gourd); Robert Marguoleff, Malcolm Cecil (programming); Lani Groves, Tasha Thomas, Jim Gilstrap (background vocals). Producer: Stevie Wonder. Reissue producer: Harry Weinger. Recorded at The Record Plant, Los Angeles, California and Media Sound, Inc., New York, New York. Originally released on Tamla (T326). Digitally remastered by Kevin Reeves. INNERVISIONS is Stevie Wonder squarely in the middle of his early-'70s peak. Continuing his ongoing proof that popular music can have a social conscience, INNERVISIONS features some of Wonder's finest pop singles while dealing rigorously with spiritual and sociological issues. "Living For The City" is a detailed ghetto anthem along the lines of his friend Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)," while the wildly funky "Higher Ground" looks to reincarnation and salvation. Both cracked the Top 10 in 1973. The celestial thread continues through "Jesus Children Of America," which brings together Christianity and transcendental meditation, and "Visions," a delicate plea for peace and brotherhood that sounds like an homage to John Lennon's "Imagine" (released two years earlier). Successful in pretty much every way--it earned Wonder his first of two straight album-of-the-year Grammys--about the only question left by INNERVISIONS was, how to top it? SKU: 1032696
