Moments From This Theatre - Live
Recorded live in Belfast and Dublin, Ireland; London and South Petherton, England in November 1998. Dan Penn and Dewey Lyndon "Spooner" Oldham first met as members of the Fame studio house band in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Penn had already had songwriting success at the age of 14 when one of his first compositions became a hit for Conway Twitty. His subsequent collaborations with Oldham and/or producer Chips Moman resulted in a score of hits for such soul luminaries as Percy Sledge, Clarence Carter, and James Carr ("The Dark End Of The Street"). The Penn/Moman song "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" was a massive hit for Aretha Franklin. Recorded live in the UK and Ireland in 1998, Penn and Oldham work through stripped-down arrangements of self-penned soul and pop hits such as "I'm Your Puppet," "Cry Like A Baby" and the aforementioned James Carr classic. "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" is, unsurprisingly, the clincher. The listener can be forgiven for thinking that he has just stumbled in on two old friends in a casual jam session. The songs are delivered with suchintimacy that only the applause betrays the concert setting. SKU: 4118282

Co-Balt
Brute.: Vic Chestnutt, John Bell, John Herman, Dave Schools, Domingo S. Ortiz, Mike Houser, Todd Nance. Additional personnel: John Keane (guitar, background vocals). Seven years after what was thought to be a one-off side project, NINE HIGH A PALLET, Brute reconvened and created a secondalbum. The band is a collaboration between Widespread Panic and Vic Chesnutt. The resulting songs give the former a scruffier edginess and the latter more heft and thrust. The songs are all written by Chesnutt, who's shown himself to be adept at drawing on the character of the ensembles he's worked with (including Lambchop and Friends of Dean Martinez) in the past. The 11 songs offer a range of primarily southern characters, undergoing a range of ethical and moral dilemmas (one even being titled "Morally Challenged"). The song structures are carefully delineated, eschewing the jamming interests of the Widespread Panic in favor of concise solos within the body of the lyrical narrative. It's great to hear Chesnutt singing over such potent riffs (as on "Puppy sleeps"). SKU: 1076190

Inside Out
Full performer name: Keith Jarrett/Gary Peacock/Jack DeJohnette. Personnel: Keith Jarrett (piano); Gary Peacock (bass); Jack DeJohnette (drums). Recorded live at Royal Festival Hall, London, England on July 26 & 28, 2000. Includes liner notes by Keith Jarrett. This trio has been most closely associated with its exploration of standards (the group is often referred to as Jarrett's "Standards Trio"). A 1987 US tour departed from that format, heading into the more free-form terrain all three musicians had embraced in the '60s. Those results were heard on the album CHANGELESS. 13 years later, the threesome threw away the songbook again, and this album, recorded live at the Royal Festival Hall in London, captures what transpired. A celebratory spirit pulses through this 78-minute set, with exuberant interplay lighting fires at every turn. Drummer Jack DeJohnette is a marvel, pushing and prodding, and sustaining layered rhythm beds that are at once muscular and supple. In keeping with its usual identity, the trio brings things to a close with Edward Heyman and Victor Young's "When I Fall In Love." The sound quality, as always with ECM Records, is superb. Pet Sounds Sessions, The
Full title: The Pet Sounds Sessions: A 30th Anniversary Collection. This four-disc box set includes the first true stereo mix of the Beach Boys' 1966 album PET SOUNDS on one disc, and a new mono mix of the album on another. The mono mix was remastered using 24-bit High Density Compatible Digital (HDCD) technology. Another disc is highlighted by a cappella mixes of 11 songs from PET SOUNDS. The set also features outtakes, alternate versions, demos and a variety of instrumental mixes of the album's 13 songs. THE PET SOUNDS SESSIONS box includes a 120-page full color book. The Beach Boys: Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Mike Love, Bruce Johnston, Al Jardine. Compilation producers: David Leaf, Brian Wilson. Recorded in 1965 & 1966. Includes liner notes by Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys, Paul McCartney and George Martin. All tracks have been digitally remastered using HDCD technology. THE PET SOUNDS SESSIONS: A 30TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Historical Album. When it comes to landmark albums, it's hard to beat the Beach Boys 1966 masterwork, PET SOUNDS. Not only was it the directinspiration for the following year's SGT. PEPPER, and for countless other works by '60s psychedelic groups; its influence was strong enough more than three decades after its release to warrant this 4-disc box set. In the nineties, the orchestral pop of acts such as Eric Matthews, The High Llamas and Epic Soundtracks owed its brass to Brian Wilson's brainchild. Over the course of four jam-packed discs, PET SOUNDS SESSIONS offers vocal-only and instrumental-only mixes of all the original tracks. In additional to the familiar version of the album, there are also alternate performances as well as alternate and mono mixes, working versions sketched out in the studio, and songs that never made it onto the original release. The box comes with a lavish book filled with photos and inside info on the sessions. This set provides a rare glimpse into the inner workings of one of pop music's most innovative minds, and the process by which he and his bandmates made musical history. SKU: 1001802

Comes A Time
Neil Young & Crazy Horse: Neil Young (vocals, guitar, strings); Frank Sampedro (vocals, guitar); Tim Mulligan (saxophone); Billy Talbot (bass, vocals). Additional personnel: Nicolette Larson (vocals); Grant Boatright, Bucky Barret, John Christopher, Jerry Shook, Viv Jordan, Steve Gibson, Dale Sellers, Ray Edenton (acoustic guitar); J.J. Cale (guitar); Ben Keith (steel guitar); Rufus Thibodeaux (fiddle); Rita Fey (autoharp); Shelly Kurland, Stephanie Woolf, Marvin Chantry, Roy Christensen, Gary Vanosdale, Carl Goroditzet, George Binkley, Steve Wmith, Larry Harvin, Larry Lasson, Carol Walker, Rebecca Lynch, Virginai Christensen, Maryanna Harvin, George Kosmola, Martha McCrory, Chuck Cochran (strings); Spooner Oldham (piano); Joe Osborne, Tim Drummond (bass); Larrie Londin, Carl Himmel (drums); Farrel Morris (percussion). Producers: Neil Young, Ben Keith, DavidBriggs. Engineers include: Tim Mulligan, Rich "Hoss" Adler, Paul Kaminsky. Recorded at Triiad, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Columbia, London, England; Wally Heider, Hollywood, California; Woodland & Sound Shop, Nashville, Tennessee; Broken Arrow, Redwood City, California. With steel guitars, fiddles and lots of acoustic guitars, this low-key folk-rock album harks back to Young's great AFTER THE GOLD RUSH-HARVEST period, and if it doesn't measure up that's only because of the ridiculously high standards the earlier albums set. Taken by itself, COMES A TIME is a fine collection, anchored by the timeless wonderment of the title song; a cover of Ian & Sylvia's "Four Strong Winds," and the nearly indescribable "Look Out For My Love," which is either a love song, a threat or both. COMES A TIME also features "Lotta Love," which was released simultaneously by Nicolette Larson and was a major hit for her. Larson doesn't sing on Young's version, but her background vocals distinguish much of the rest of COMES A TIME. Crazy Horse puts in an unusually low-key--but typically warm and ragged--appearance on two songs, "Look Out For My Love" and "Lotta Love." SKU: 5047851

White Ladder
This is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Personnel: David Gray (vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards); Clune (vocals, keyboards, bass, drums); Colm Mac Con Iomaire (violin); Tim Bradshaw (keyboards); Simon Edwards (bass); Lestyn, Steve Sydelnyk, Marius De Vries (programming). David Gray began his career utilizing bare-bones folk-rock arrangements that left plenty of room for his Dylan/Van Morrison-inspired vocals and lyrics to weave their spell. Subsequently, he submerged his unique qualities somewhat in thick production. WHITE LADDER finds a workable balance between these two extremes. Some of the tracks are little more than Gray plus rhythm section, recalling the simplistic grace of his debut A CENTURYENDS; on other cuts, synthesizers and electronic rhythms are incorporated in a tasteful, organic way that lends modernity to the proceedings without imposing upon the spirit of the songs. As always, the most important thing is Gray's lyrical and vocal skill, which remain pleasingly intact. He leavens his simple, heartfelt observations with just the right amount of poetic imagery, much in the same manner that the electronic touches are added to spice up WHITE LADDER's neo-folk arrangements. Radio Sessions, The
Full title: Here Comes Sickness: The BestOf The BBC Recordings. Mudhoney: Mark Arm (vocals, guitar); Steve Turner (guitar, background vocals); Matt Lukin (bass, background vocals); Dan Peters (drums). Recorded between May 9, 1989 and August 27, 1995. Includes liner notes by Steve Turner. Like many other alternative rockers of the '80s and '90s, Mudhoney laid down quite a few live tracks in the studio for the BBC in England throughout the years. Issued shortly after the band went on hiatus in 2000, HERE COMES SICKNESS is a 21-track compilation of these sessions. Taken from three different sessions (one from '89, two from '95), it's a pretty good cross-section of the band's best tracks, which take on a life of their own in a live setting. Highlights include such Mudhoney classics as the title track, "Touch Me I'm Sick," "Suck You Dry," "This Gift," "By Her Own Hand," and a cover of the Dickies' "Hate the Police." SKU: 1035470

Legend [Remastered]
Originally released on Island (90169). Digitally remastered by Ted Jensen (2001, Sterling Sound, New York). Although reggae is still perceived as a minor specialist genre, when it hits the button right, the music captures the hearts of the masses. Marley is a giant similar to Elvis Presley: both continue to sell vast numbers of records long aftertheir deaths, and both are clear leaders of their respective genres. This album is the most perfect selection of hits. The running order is unbeatable, each track is made for the next. There is a superb four-CD box set available for serious collectors, but for those who want to put on a CD at any time of the day this will always hit the spot. SKU: 1072352

Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge [PA]
My Chemical Romance: Gerard Way (vocals); Ray Toro, Frank Iero (guitar); Mikey Way (bass guitar); Matt Pelissier (drums). For its major-label debut,My Chemical Romance amps up the melodies in transforming its unique hardcore approach to more of a pop-punk style. To say this Jersey quintet subscribes to the half-empty-glass outlook on love and relationships is like saying Johnny Rotten is a slightly irritable chap. Buried amid the abundant sing-along choruses and the tasty, two-guitar attack of fretburners Ray Toro and Frank Iero is doom-and-gloom imagery that ranges from the suicidal allusions of the soaring "Cemetery Drive" to the murder and firing squads of the insistent "Give 'Em Hell Kid." Frontman Gerard Way exudes plenty of charisma, and his clear and powerful phrasing works well in a format where vocal precision is often an afterthought. In particular, Way shines within the bizarre confines of the quirky "You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison" and the subtler nuances of the dream-pop-flavored "The Ghost of You." Falling somewhere between metal and punk with a distinctive pop sensibility, THREE CHEERS FOR SWEET REVENGE puts My Chemical Romance in line for the kind of success achieved Blink 182. SKU: 6570618

Caress Of Steel
All tracks have been digitally remastered. After building up a cult following with years of non-stop touring, Rush nearly lost their fans with CARESS OF STEEL. Taking their cue from British bands like Yes and Genesis, they began to expand their sound beyond that of a typical power trio. Gone were the riff-based songs and extended jams, replaced with more intricate arrangements, multi-part songs and deeper, introspective lyrics. Ironically, it was these elements that would later win them an international audience. The album kicks off with "Bastille Day," a tough account of the French revolution, followed with an almost comical song "I Think I'm Going Bald," which finds Geddy Lee lamenting his advancing age (he was all of 21or 22 at the time). The main reason to own this album is the second half: a song in six parts called "The Fountain of Lamneth" tracing the story of a boy who finds a purpose for his life and can not rest until it is fulfilled. After years of setbacks and dodging obstacles, he finally reaches his goal as an old man and discovers that the purpose is the journey. This theme would surface many times in later songs, the band adopting it as their philosophy. SKU: 1019958

Hotcakes And Outtakes
Includes a full color 75 page booklet. Little Feat includes: Lowell George, Roy Estrada, Bill Payne, Richie Hayward, Paul Barrere, Kenny Gradney, Sam Clayton, Shaun Murphy, Fred Tackett, Craig Fuller. Kenny Gradney. Producers include: Russ Titelman, Ted Templeman, Lowell George, Van Dyke Parks, Erik Jacobsen. Compilation producers: Gary Peterson, Bill Payne, Paul Barrere, Bill Inglot. Includes liner notes by Paul Barrere and Bud Scoppa. HOTCAKES & OUTTAKES was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Album Notes. Based in their original incarnation around the genius of Lowell George, Little Feat's legacy has left them overlooked by the general listening public, despite a wide-ranging style that embraces blues, country, gospel, jazz, and funk. This sumptuous four-CD set impressively chronicles this mercurial band's pre- and post- Lowell George journey with rare photos, essays, and track-by-track reminisces from band members, along with a disc chock-full of rarities and outtakes. Throughout HOTCAKES, it's hard to disagree with liner notes author Bud Scoppa's opinion that Little Feat is as rootsy as the Band, as funky as the Meters, and as cerebral as Steely Dan. Early numbers like "Willin'," "Tripe Face Boogie," and "Cold, Cold, Cold" find Little Feat going from eclectic country-fried boogie, to a syncopated New Orleans sound upon the arrival of Sam Clayton and Kenny Gradney, to more familiar fare like "Dixie Chicken" and "Fat Man in the Bathtub." By the time George cut his only solo album THANKS I'LL EAT IT HERE (represented here by "20 Million Things"), Little Feat were disbanding, but they regrouped in the late '80s as a straightforward roots-rock outfit, best known for numbers like "Let it Roll" and "Rad Gumbo." Baby One More Time [ECD]
BABY ONE MORE TIME is an Enhanced CD containing a full audio program as well as multimedia computer files. Personnel: Britney Spears (vocals); Mickie Bassie (vocals, keyboards, bass); Don Philip (vocals); Esbjorn Ohrwall, Dan Petty (acoustic & electric guitars); Eric Foster White (guitar, keyboards, bass, drum programming); Johan Carlberg, Andrew McIntyre (guitar); Max Martin (keyboards, programming, background vocals); Per Magnusson, David Kreuger, Kristian Lundin (keyboards, programming); Doug Petty (keyboards); Tomas Lindberg, Andy Hess (bass); Jimmy Bradlower (drum programming); Nana Hedin, Jeanette Soderholm, Anders Von Hoffsten, Andreas Carlson, Aleese Simmons, Andrew Fromm, Nikki Gregoroff (background vocals). Producers include: Eric Foster White, Kristian Lundian, Per Magnusson, David Kreuger, Max Martin. Engineers include: Max Martin, Eric Foster White, Chris Trevett. Recorded at Cheiron Studios, Stockholm, Sweden; 4MW East and Battery Studios, New York, New York. "Baby One More Time" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Britney Spears takes her rightful place among bubble gum pop icons at the turn of the millennium with BABY ONE MORE TIME. Earlier known for her part in Disney's revamped "Mickey Mouse Club," Britney successfully turned singer at a mere 16 years of age. She navigates the choppy waters of young love with style, passion and lots of fun. She's got all the charm of '80s forebears like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany, coupled with a hip '90s edge. With sweet nylon guitar work reminiscent of Richard Marx productions, "Sometimes" warns a potential love of her need for time and patience, rolling along nicely with a slow groove and a big beat. The Jets' gem "You've Got It All" shines brightly as ever with Britney's girlish allure. Take note, however, that Britney's not all bubbles--with an obvious influence from Mariah Carey, she glides quite ably through the key changesand delivers octave leaps and vibratos that should melt just about any heart, young or old. Nothing's Shocking
Jane's Addiction: Perry Farrell (vocals); David Navarro (acoustic & electric guitars); Eric A. (acoustic guitar, bass); Stephen Perkins (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Angelo Moore, Flea, Christopher Dowd (horns). Engineers: Dave Jerden, Ronnie S. Champagne, Andy Harper. Recorded at Eldorado Studios in Los Angeles, California. Jane's Addiction may not have been a strict metal band, but their music was certainly full of traits inherent to metal substances: hard, gleaming, powerful. On NOTHING'S SHOCKING, which captured the much too short-lived quartet at its very peak, they were a blazing metallic supernova--grooving up a streak across the sky one moment, setting off heavy rhythmic discharges the next. Feeding off radically diverse musical elements--from art and classic rock, to hard-core punk and funk--Jane's Addiction was the last great precursor to the alternative revolution of 1991-92.Simultaneously, they were the sole inheritors of Led Zeppelin's mantra to make a different kind of sprawling heavy rock, and that they did in spades. Thematically, NOTHING'S SHOCKING set out to prove that no subject was beyond the gleam in lyricist/vocalist Perry Farrell's (pronounced "peripheral") eye. Serial killer Ted Bundy ("Ted, Just Admit It"), punk ideology as Eastern philosophy ("Pigs In Zen"), mystic romances ("Summertime Rolls") and high-falutin', early-morning thoughts ("Standing In The Shower...Thinking") were all dissected through a psychologically-stimulating viewpoint, with a stream-of-consciousness delivery. Farrell's tales also served the band as a guide to attack the canvas, and the musicians burned heroically behind him, providing the songs with an expansive set of musical colors. Guitarist Dave Navarro continuously exploded on the drop of a dime, while bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins proved to be among the most formidable rhythm sections in all of rock. Above all, NOTHING'S SHOCKING helped revive the idea that heavy rock need not be formulaic, or lack any semblance of meaningful content. Rather than focus on the old-hat aspects of the rock rebellion myth (sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll), Jane's Addiction looked in the hard-to-find places for their muse, demonstrating that metal rebels didn't have to be idiots. Make The Music Go Bang (The Best Of X)
X (American): John Doe (vocals, acoustic guitar, bass instrument); Exene Cervenka (vocals); Dave Alvin (guitar, 6-string bass); Tony Gilkyson (guitar, background vocals); Billy Zoom (guitar). Producers: Jimmy Nanos; X; Ray Manzarek Compilation Producers: Gary Stewart; John Doe. Recording information: 1978 - 1993. Rhino's double-disc compilation MAKE THE MUSIC GO BANG. does justice to representing X, arguably the best American "punk" band ever. The compilation begins in 1978 with early single versions of "Adult Books" and "We're Desperate;" the songs have a stripped-down, New Wave feel, but are characterized by John Doe's superb songwriting and his mesmerizing, angular harmonies with lead singer Exene Cervenka. The set then rips into six barn-burning cuts from the group's landmark debut, LOS ANGELES. Those yet to be electrified by Billy Zoom's high-octane guitar on that album's title track or on "Johnny Hit and Run Pauline" should embrace the opportunity. The unsettling, minor-key pop of "White Girl" kicks off tracks from WILD GIFT and UNDER THE BIG BLACK SUN (including the razor-edged, lovely "Blue Spark"). The second disc follows X's chronology through the mid-'80s and into the early '90s, when its sound grew to incorporate more overt elements of country, roots rock, hard rock, and rockabilly, with no diminishment in overall musical intelligence, energy, and integrity. True fans will need the individual albums, but as an overview of this brilliant band, and as a one-stop collection of some of its best material, MAKE THE MUSIC GO BANG. is hard to rival. SKU: 6565859

Big Ones
Aerosmith: Steven Tyler (vocals, keyboards, mandolin, harmonica); Joe Perry (guitar, dulcimer, background vocals); Brad Whitford (guitar); Tom Hamilton (electric bass, background vocals); Joey Kramer (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Catherine Epps (spoken vocals); Tom Keenlyside (clarinet, tenor saxophone); Ian Putz (baritone saxophone); Henry Christian, Paul Baron (trumpet); Bruce Fairbairn (trumpet, background vocals); Bob Rogers (trombone); Richie Supa, John Webster, Desmond Child (keyboards); Drew Arnott (Mellotron); Jim Vallance(organ); Mapuhi T. Tekurio, Melvin Liufau, Wesey Mamea, Liainaiala Tagaloa, Sandy Kanaeholo, Aladd Alatina Teofilo Jr. (Polynesian log drums); Don Henley, Bob Dowd (background vocals). Producers: Bruce Fairbairn, Michael Beinhorn. Engineers include: Adam Kaspar, Mike Fraser, Bob Rock. All songs written or co-written by members of Aerosmith. By now Aerosmith's story of survival is deeply imbedded in rock mythology. Band reaches outlandish stadium-sized stardom in the `70s; band splinters under the weight of their toxic abuse; members undergo detox; clean and sober band returns to a new apex of superstardom in the `90s: a classic tale of excess and success. It is rock 'n' roll's great American redemption, and BIG ONES is a greatest hits soundtrack to the comeback portion of this story--with two new tunes to serve as an encore of sorts. BIG ONES also illustrates that the Aerosmith that's come to define current mainstream rock is not the Aerosmith of old. The blues-veined, pocket-Stones sound that introduced white boys to "Walking The Dog" has given way to lascivious arena-metal ("Love In An Elevator," "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)") and emotional power-ballads ("Angel", "Cryin'"). Age has also brought about a change in the topics that the band chooses to address, concerning themselves with child abuse in "Janie's Got A Gun," and morality in "Living On The Edge." Yet, with Aerosmith what you see is what you get--therein lies the beauty--and even with the mild tinkering of the machinery, BIG ONES proves that their commercial train just keeps a-rollin'. Deconstructed
Personnel includes: Steve Swallow (electric bass); Chris Potter (saxophone); Ryan Kisor (trumpet); Mick Goodrick (guitar); Adam Nussbaum (drums). As a title, DECONSTRUCTED does little to explain this fine album. Though the melody of the title piece turns around and inverts itself in Mobius-strip-like ways, the track bustles along with the '60s post-bop fervor that marks all of Steve Swallow originals. As always, Swallow's writing is warm and, as evidenced by "Lost In Boston," occasionally quite witty. Swallow and his quintet of cohorts are trying to build on a lost art, not recapture it. The tandem horn lines of Ryan Kisor (trumpet) and Chris Potter (tenor saxophone) go a long way towards establishing an identity that traces itself to the halcyon days of the Blue Note label. Guitarist Mick Goodrick has worked with Swallow in previous ensembles, most notably alongside Gary Burton. But there's not a retro moment to be heard here. These ten piecesare in a distinct tradition. Far from upsetting that heritage, they simply dive into it, fully acknowledging the fact that it's the '90s. SKU: 1015381

Spiritual Machines [ECD]
This is an Enhanced CD which contains regular audio tracks, multimedia computer files and a link to the artist's website with the help of a web browser. Our Lady Peace: Raine Maida (vocals); Jamie Edwards (guitar, keyboards); Mike Turner (guitar); Duncan Coutts (bass); Jeremy Taggart (drums); Ray Kurzweil (samples). Additional personnel: Tylea Lanni (vocals); Matt Cameron (drums). Adhering to the time-honored "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy, this quartet of Canadian rockers doesn't tamper much with the sound it established on previous albums, instead focusing on the strengths that brought the group so much attention in the past. Our Lady Peace has always been about the combination of churning guitars, pounding drums, and hook-oriented melodic sensibilities. On SPIRITUAL MACHINES the band alternates between all-out rockers and mid-tempo cuts that bring the dynamics down a notch in order to showcase the band's waywith a well-written tune. Interspersed along the way are some thematic threads that stitch together a vaguely futuristic sci-fi concept, but you can leave that to be fleshed out by MTV. On SPIRITUAL MACHINES the song is the thing, and Our Lady Peace delivers these songs with maximum energy and facility. SKU: 1056990

Human Being
Personnel includes: Seal (vocals, guitar, bass); Chris Bruce (guitar, bass); Danny Saber (guitar, programming); Gregg Arreguin, Chester Kaymen, Gus Isadore, Heitor Perrera, Wendy Melvoin, Ramon Stagnaro (guitar); Jamie Muhoberac (keyboards, bass, programming); Grant Mitchell (keyboards, programming); Dave Palmer, David Sancious, Mike Garson, George De Angelis, Lisa Coleman (keyboards); Earl Harvin (drums, bass, guitar); Alex Acuna, Andy Duncan (percussion); Andy Richards, Dave McCracken, William Orbit (programming). Engineers: Tim Weidner, Stephen Fitzmaurice. From the spacious, catchy title track that kicks things off, HUMAN BEING continues Seal's unique brand of pop craftsmanship. Filled with the pure, soulful vocals, dramatic compositions and airy arrangements that resonate with Seal's worldwide audience, the album isanother fine addition to his canon. Introducing programming into the mix, he expands on the already miles-deep sonic palette which marks all of his work, thanks in part to producer Trevor Horn, who miraculously makes even the busiest musical passage seem as expansive as the heavens. The strong but elegant march of "State Of Grace" drives home Seal's seriousness of purpose, both lyrically and musically. "The Latest Craze" boasts sweet harmonic accompaniment and subtle programming adornment. Things move up close for the tender "Just Like You Said," which features an unusually up-front vocal and acoustic guitar track in a slow, steady build to the kind of dramatic burst of energy that's become a Seal trademark.
