Another Country
The Chieftains: Kevin Conneff (vocals, bodhran); Martin Fay, Sean Keane (fiddle); Derek Bell (harp, keyboards, tiompan); Matt Molloy (flute); Paddy Moloney (Uillean pipes, tin whistle). Additional personnel includes: Ricky Skaggs, Colin James (vocals, guitar, mandolin); Don Williams, Jimmy Ibbotson, Jeff Hanna (vocals, guitar); Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris (vocals); Keith Little, Chet Atkins (guitar); Sam Bush (mandolin); Bela Fleck, Billy Joe Foster (banjo); Jerry Douglas, Steve Fisher (dobro); Jimmie Fadden (harmonica, drums); Mickey Raphael, Randy Harper (keyboards); Roy Huskey, Edgar Meyer, David Hungate, David Pomeroy (bass); Kris Kristofferson, The Highwaymen (background vocals). Engineers: Warren Peterson, Kevin Doyle, Brian Masterson. Recorded at Javelina Studios, Nashville, Tennessee onMarch 9 and April 28-May 4, 1992; Sounds Interchange Studio, Toronto, Canada on March 18, 1992; Windmill Lane Studios, Dublin, Ireland on April 17, 1992. Includes liner notes by Paddy Moloney. ANOTHER COUNTRY is a blend of Irish music and American C&W. You don't have to be a musicologist to hear the similarities between American bluegrass and traditional Irish music, and ANOTHER COUNTRY may well be one of the Chieftains' best collaborative albums. So many great country artists are featured here that almost every song is a highlight. The somber way Emmylou Harris sings "Nobody's Darlin' But Mine," or the enthusiasm of Willie Nelson's singing on "Goodnight Irene" may be the true high points of ANOTHER COUNTRY. However, great instrumental work by Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, and Chet Atkins definitely vies for second place. The album's finales, "Did You Ever Go A-Courtin'," and "Uncle Joe," feature first the Chieftains, then Ricky Skaggs on vocals, then Chet Atkins' country picking, then Bella Fleck's banjo work, and so on in a real barn burner that gives each great soloist a chance to shine. Californication
Red Hot Chili Peppers: Anthony Kiedis (vocals); John Frusciante (guitar); Flea (bass); Chad Smith (drums). Additional personnel: Patrick Warren (Chamberlin organ); Greg Kurstin (keyboards). Engineers include: Jim Scott, John Sorenson, Greg Fidelman. "Scar Tissue" won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rock Song. CALIFORNICATION was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. "Scar Tissue" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. "Californication" was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and for Best Rock Song. CALIFORNICATION finds The Red Hot Chili Peppers once again in the more straightforward punk-funk mode of BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK. This return to their original sound also marks the return of prodigal son John Frusciante, who takes over for his replacement, Dave Navarro. The Chili Peppers fill CALIFORNICATION with material shaped by personal and professional turmoil, resulting in a somewhat more sensitive approach than one might expected from a band whose hard-core following are skate-punks and drunken frat-boys. Songs such as "Otherside," "Scar Tissue" and "This Velvet Glove" overflow with background harmonies, while Frusciante's unadorned guitar provides support for Anthony Kiedis' emotive singing and broken-hearted lyrics. The title track is one of the most impressive songs this quartet has written--It tells a tale of wandering souls who've lost their way searching for the American Dream in California. This sensitive showing does nothing to undermine the Chili Pepper's trademark aggressive musical style. If anything, their playing has gotten tighter--as evidenced by the chicken-scratch funk of "Get On Top" and the scat-sung approach of "I Like Dirt." The most impressive anomaly on CALIFORNICATION is "Savior," an ethereal track that finds Frusciante playing with a tone reminiscent of early Peter Green. SKU: 1004689

Birdy (Original Soundtrack) [SACD]
Original score composed by Peter Gabriel. Personnel includes: Peter Gabriel; Jon Hassell (trumpet); Tony Levin (bass); The Drummers Of Ekome. Includes liner notes by Peter Gabriel. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Director Alan Parker's 1984 film BIRDY, from a psychological novel about a disturbed Vietnam vet who thinks he can fly, offered Peter Gabriel his first opportunity to score a feature film. He responded by taking selected instrumental tracks from some of his earlier recordings and toying with them at the mixing board (in a manner somewhat reminiscent of Brian Eno) until they became all-new pieces (frankly, if you can pick out the originals, you're good). Whatresulted was highly atmospheric and quite appropriate in the context of the film, although heard at home BIRDY seems more of an ambient album than a film score per se. SKU: 1082959

Additional personnel includes: Ed Carter, Billy Hinsche, Ben Benay, Jerry Cole, Tommy J. Tedesco (guitar); Carol Lee Miller (autoharp); Steve Douglas (flute, saxophone); Charles Lloyd (flute); Dennis Dreith (clarinet, saxophone); Plas Johnson, Mike Altshul, John J. Kelson, Jr., Jack Nimitz, Roy Wood & Wizzard (saxophone); Bruce Johnston (piano, background vocals); Daryl Dragon (Clavinet); James Hughart (acoustic bass); Ricky Fataar (drums, percussion);Hal Blaine (drums); Julius Wechter (percussion, bells); Gene Estes (percussion); Marilyn Wilson, Toni Tennile (background vocals). Producer: Brian Wilson. Engineer: Stephen Moffitt, Earle Mankey. Recorded at Brother Studios, Santa Monica, California between January 30 & May 15, 1976. Originally released on Brother/Reprise. Includes liner notes by Dennis Diken. LOVE YOU: Producer: Brian Wilson. Engineers: Stephen Moffitt, Earle Mankey, Steve Desper. Recorded in 1977. Originally released on Brother/Reprise. Includes liner notes by Peter Buck. Digitally remastered by Andrew Sandoval & Dan Hersch (DigiPrep). This two-fer, which compiles two of the band's late-period albums, 1976's 15 BIG ONES and 1977's LOVE YOU, should give both critics and fans much to chew on. While not up to the caliber of milestones like PET SOUNDS and SURF'S UP, both sets contain the hallmarks of the Boys' best material: irresistible melodies, inventive, intricate arrangements, and melting harmonies from heaven. 15 BIG ONES, the album on which Brian Wilson re-teamed with the rest of the band after a hiatus of many years, alternates originals with covers such as "Rock and Roll Music" and "Chapel of Love." As usual, Wilson's compositions outshine the rest, as on the pop carousel of "It's OK" and the delightfully quirky "TM Song." The real treasure, however, is found on LOVE YOU. Though the brilliant studio sheen of classic Beach Boys production is absent here, what remains is an album of honest, original, idiosyncratic pop songs. A trip through Brian Wilson's warped, sunshine-splattered funhouse, LOVE YOU delivers up gems of sweet melancholy like "Let's Put Our Hearts Together" and the ridiculous, amazing "Johnny Carson." Ragged and intimate, LOVE YOU alone makes this disc a must for fans of the band and scholars of alternative pop. SKU: 1043850

Jamiroquai includes: Jay Kay (vocals); Simon Katz, Irwin Kelles (guitar); Wallis Buchanan (digeridoo); Toby Smith (keyboards); Nick Fyffe (bass); Derrick McKenzie (drums); Sola Akingbola (percussion); Katie Kissoon, Beverley Skeet (background vocals). Recorded at Chillington Studio, Buckinghamshire, England. On their fourth record, Jamiroquai continue their quest to drag dance music into the new millennium with a sound that fuses influences from the past with an international spin. This time around, Jamiroquai uses the string-heavy Gamble & Huff arrangements of classic '70s Philly soul as its musical touchstone. Songs such as "Canned Heat" and "Butterfly" establish a mood that moves from booty-shaking grooves to hypnotic head-bobbing thanks to generous dollops of fuzz bass, darting strings and propulsive percussion. Even though frontman Jay Kay's vocals are a little too reminiscent of Stevie Wonder's upper register, the addition of wicked Clavinet and wah-wah guitar point the musical vibe more towards Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes, particularly on the blaxploitative funk of "Soul Education" and "Black Capricorn Day." "Supersonic" is a multi-cultural smorgasbord that findsJamiroquai crossing Latin-flavored percussion with the otherworldly sounds of the Australian didgeridoo. The result is an aural playground of bouncing rhythms and electronic effects. SKU: 1019040

Idiot, The
Personnel includes: Iggy Pop (vocals); David Bowie (keyboards). Recorded at Chateau D'Herouville and Hansa Studios, Berlin, Germany. Iggy's solo debut following the end of the Stooges, THE IDIOT is often overlooked in favour of his second epistle, LUST FOR LIFE. Great album though the latter may be, THE IDIOT served to remind rock's better-informed fans that one ofits most original talents was still alive and kicking. Produced by Bowie, IDIOT contains two compositions, "Funtime" and "China Girl" that he later recorded himself. Another highlight is the electronics-driven "Nightclubbing" (a certifiable post-punk classic) and the meandering "Dum Dum Boys" (a precursor to "The Passenger"). An album that proved Iggy did not need to be flanked by guitars to retain his edge and menace. SKU: 1004302

Wedding Singer Vol.2, The
Full title: More Music From The Motion Picture The Wedding Singer. All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology. This Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore comedy, like several other late-'90s films, played on the '80s nostalgia factor, a process impossible without the right music. The initial WEDDING SINGER soundtrack album proved to be so popular that this collection, featuring yet more music from the film, was trotted out. Eighties-hungry pop fans should certainly get their fill here. There's a little bit of everything on this disc, from radio giants like Madonna and Hall & Oates to more obscure acts like Flying Lizards (whose desecration of the '60s tune "Money" is one of the highlights of this album). Hairspray and eyeliner abound as one classic after another leaps out at the listener, including a couple of oddly poignant tunes (Flock of Seagulls' "Space Age Love Song" and Spandau Ballet's "True.") Andwhile the original Dead or Alive version of "You Spin Me Round" is all well and good, we long to hear Adam Sandler's uproarious wedding-band version of the song as featured in the film. Big Brother & The Holding Company [Remastered]
Full performer name: Big Brother & The Holding Company. Full title: Big Brother & The Holding Company Featuring Janis Joplin. Also available with PEARL, CHEAP THRILLS, I GOT DEM OL' KOZMICBLUES AGAIN MAMA. and bonus disc RARE PEARLS in BOX OF PEARLS: THE JANIS JOPLIN COLLECTION. Big Brother & The Holding Company: Janis Joplin (vocals); Sam Houston Andrew III, Peter S. Albin (guitar, bass); James Gurley (guitar); Dave Getz (drums). Producer: Bob Shad. Reissue producer: Bob Irwin. Recorded in Chicago, Illinois in December 1966. Originally released on Mainstream (6099). Includes liner notes by Sam Andrews and Jud Cost. Six months before becoming an overnight sensation following a blistering set at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, Big Brother was an unknown group from San Francisco playing a month-long Chicago club engagement. The band, made up of bassist Peter Albin, drummer David Getz, and guitarists James Gurley and Sam Andrew, was completed when the quartet was introduced to singer Janis Joplin by mutual friend Chet Helms. When their gig was cut short, Big Brother avoided returning to California when Bob Shad signed the group to Mainstream Records, his small, struggling jazz label. The three-day recording session in December 1966 resulted in a set of mostly original songs, with the exception of New York City street musician Moondog's "All Is Loneliness" and a more secular arrangement of the gospel standard "Down on Me." Despite Joplin's fiery singing style, Big Brother was still the kind of democracy in which Joplin shared vocals with Sam Andrew on the trippy "Light Is Faster Than Sound" and the more soulful duet "Call on Me." But most of this record featured Joplin reaching back and channeling her hero Big Maybelle on songs like the brassy "Women Is Losers" and the no-nonsense "Intruder." SKU: 5022541

Prodigy - Dirtchamber Sessions Vol.1
THE DIRTCHAMBER SESSIONS VOLUME ONE is a continuous in-the-mix recording compiled and mixed by Liam Howlett. Prodigy put its name on the map by adding pop song structures and punk attitude to electronica--Underworld with a chip on its shoulder, or the Chemical Brothers with an in-house vocalist. That's why THE DIRTCHAMBER SESSIONS comes as such a surprise. Like the Chemical Brothers (who are extensively sampled here), who followed the songful DIG YOUR OWN HOLE with a DJ album, Prodigy doesn't attempt to capitalize ontheir previous pop breakthrough here. Instead of hard-edged electronic pop tunes, the group focuses on the turntable and sampler. As the album's painstakingly detailed sample credits make clear, DIRTCHAMBER SESSIONS is more DJ-oriented than anything else in Prodigy's catalog. Interestingly enough, the reliance on alternative (mostly hip-hop-oriented) sound sources reduces Prodigy's notorious arrogance factor, making DIRTCHAMBER accessible even to those put off by the group's previous attitudinal excesses. Animals Suns And Atoms
Tarwater: Bernd Jestram, Ronald Lippok. Is it post-rock Is it electronica. Surprise. It's neither and both, a music of contradictions, a group defined by unpredictability, and a concept that dozens of others will fail to get, emulate, or surpass. A side-projectfrom members of electronicists To Rococo Rot, Tarwater resembles a sonic architecture of pop and pistons weathered, crumbling, and finally reborn in the multimedia world of music, circa 2000. Tarwater fuses electronics with rock frippery, much like antecedents Cluster and Neu, welding a motorik pulse to deceptively simple harmonies and morphing rhythmic structures. There's an air of Matisse about tracks such as the elegiac "Dauphin Sun" and "The Trees," their breezy guitar samples set amidst a electronics, and a Mouse on Mars-ian cache of intrigue on "At Low Frequency." It's all almost hummable-and eminently listenable. SKU: 1038015

Best Of Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong, The
Full performer name: Ella Fitzgerald/Louis Armstrong. Full title: The Best Of Ella Firzgerald And Louis Armstrong On Verve. Personnel: Ella Fitzgerald (vocals); Louis Armstrong (vocals, trumpet); Russell Garcia (conductor, arranger); Trummy Young (trombone); Edmond Hall (clarinet); Billy Kyle, Oscar Peterson (piano); Herb Ellis (guitar); Ray Brown, Dale Jones (bass); Louie Bellson, Buddy Rich, Barrett Deems (drums). Principally recorded at Capitol Studios, The Hollywood Bowl, Hollywood, California from August 15, 1956 - August 28, 1957. Includes liner notes by William Ruhlmann. From August 1956 to August 1957, legendary jazz producer Norman Granz oversaw several recording sessions and a handful of concerts at the Hollywood Bowl starring two of the finest singers in jazz history, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Fitzgerald was at the peak of her powers at the time, having clearly defined herself as the best female singer in jazz. Armstrong was comfortably settling into his Grand Old Man of Jazz role by this point, trading hot swing and fiery trumpet solos for genial, good-humored vocalizing. Still, Armstrong was never one to back off from a challenge, and he holds his own divinely against the younger singer. Fitzgerald was Armstrong's only rival as a scat singer, and so nearly every track here dissolves into impressive competing scat solos. Fans of scat singing will rejoice. SKU: 1000499

8 Days Of Christmas
Destiny's Child: Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams. Additional personnel includes: Solange. Producers include: Beyonce Knowles, Matthew Knowles, Rob Fusari, Alan Foyd, Erron Williams. Engineers include: Marius Perron III, James Hoover, John Naslen. Doesn't it feel like Christmas? Well, it will after even a cursory listen to this seasonal offering from Destiny's Child, which mixes hardy favorites with newly minted holiday-oriented originals, all complete with the group's trademark luscious harmonies set to deft urban R&B orchestrations. The group kicks off with "8 Days of Christmas" (the other four presumably victims of some kind of Yuletide recession), with the traditional Christmas gifts replaced by diamond belly rings, back rubs, and "the keys to a CLK Mercedes." Other highlights include "A DC Christmas Medley" which combines such beloved chestnuts as"Jingle Bells," "Deck the Halls," and "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" in a hip-hop Christmas wonderland melange. Beyonce Knowles's scintillating version of "Silent Night" featured here (though, oddly, it's exclusively credited to the singer) should melt the hearts of even the Grinchiest DC haters. SKU: 1067853

Live At Gilley's
Personnel includes: Carl Perkins (vocals, guitar); Greg Perkins (bass); Stan Perkins (drums). Recorded live at Gilley's, Pasadena, Texas in 1980 and 1983. Carl Perkins' entry into the LIVE AT GILLEY'S series (which also features releases by rock & roll legends like Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, and others) shows that this influential rocker still had the ability to whip up some on-stage magic in the early-'80s, when this show was recorded. Perkins runs through a number of originals, including his most famous song, "Blues Suede Shoes," as well as "Matchbox," "Honey Don't," and a ten-song medley of covers that features such standards as "Roll Over Beethoven," "Maybelline," "Long Tall Sally,""Tutti Frutti," "Hound Dog," and others. LIVE AT GILLEY'S is a first-rate document of the Perkins concert magic. SKU: 1035536

Drukqs
Aphex Twin is Richard D. James. It's tempting to imagine Richard James holed up in his basement for years on end, concocting foaming aural experiments to try out on unsuspecting listeners, and he certainly does little to dispel that image here. His past musical output has varied from the gentle but weird, to the baffling, to the ghastly, and with DRUKQS he manages to combine all the aforementioned in a compelling yet unsettling mix that is never less than fascinating. The tracks are listed on the booklet, but not necessarily in the same order they appear on the album, and moreover James seems to have developed his own language somewhere along the way, so we're left to our own devices to figurethings out. Like some demented baseball pitcher, James constantly varies his stylings, now pastoral acoustic piano, now impossibly fast breakbeat techno garage, now weird hollers from behind the basement door. He keeps the listener constantly off balance (at one point including a Stephen Hawking-like voice reading snippets of Goldilocks and the Three Bears); it's a wild, strange ride, but it's consistently fascinating to hear what comes next. Soul Jubilee
Recorded live at Chastain Park, Atlanta, Georgia in 1984. Includes liner notes by Michael Heatley. It shouldalmost go without saying that The Godfather of Soul tears the roof off in this 19-track, hit-packed concert recording. James Brown is backed here by the Soul Gs--a superior group that lends horns (led by the one and only Maceo Parker), backing vocals, and impeccably tight instrumental backing. At its best, the band rivals the JBs and the Famous Flames. Brown sets out, as usual, to tear the place to pieces. The track list unfolds with one soul/R&B/funk classic after another as Brown revisits "Try Me," "Please, Please, Please," "(I Got You) I Feel Good," "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag," "I Got the Feeling," "Get Up Offa That Thing," and others of unspeakably infectious groovability. The relentless pace eases with a stirring, gospel-inflected reading of "Georgia On My Mind," featuring a fabulous sax solo from Parker. There's no resting on laurels or letting the band bear the pressure here, the Godfather churns it out harder than ever, making his performance as riveting and as important as the classics he tosses out. SOUL JUBILEE proves yet again that Brown is, in fact, the hardest working man in show business. SKU: 1007666

Sugar Tax
Full performer name: Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark. Producers: Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, Howard Gray, Andy Richards. Engineers include: Jeremy Allom, Phil Coxon, Fred De Faye. 1991's SUGAR TAX was the first new album by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark since 1986's THE PACIFIC AGE. Much had changed in the intervening five years. Most obviously, co-founder Paul Humphreys had left the band, leaving singer/keyboardist Andy McCluskey the sole constant member. Surprisingly, SUGAR TAX sounds remarkably like earlier OMD albums, leading one to wonder how important Humphrey's role in the band had actually been. Less overtly poppy and more atmospheric than THE PACIFIC AGE or that album's predecessor CRUSH, SUGAR TAX is in many ways a returnto the darker hues and sonic experiments of earlier records like DAZZLE SHIPS or ARCHITECTURE AND MORALITY. As catchy as songs such as "Then You Turn Away," or "Call My Name" are, there's not an "If You Leave" to be found here. SKU: 1007791

Drums And Wires [Remastered]
All tracks have been digitally remastered. This third album marks a significant personnel change for XTC. Organist Barry Andrews departed and was replaced by guitarist Dave Gregory. While neither of the two wrote songs for the band, the change effectively removed the most "New Wave" element in XTC's original sound, ultimately setting the stage for a magnificent sonic expansion over the following several albums. Opening with one of their biggest hits, "Making Plans For Nigel," the album finds the Partridge-Gregory guitar interplay exploring the rich fields of Captain Beefheart (the tag to "Day In Day Out" is pure Magic Band). The relative quiet of "Ten Feet Tall" sounds positively pastoral after the nonstop energy of the last two albums. With "Life Begins at the Hop" Colin Moulding was emerging as XTC's hit-bound writer, butsince these charting entries he's remained pretty much in the shadows of the more prolific Andy Partridge. Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch
Personnel: Frank Zappa (vocals, guitar); Moon Unit Zappa, Lisa Popeil, Ike Willis, Bob Harris, Roy Estrada (vocals); Steve Vai, Ray White (guitar); Bobby Martin (saxophone, keyboards); Tommy Mars (keyboards); Scott Thunes, Arthur Barrow, Patrick O'Hearn (bass); Chad Wackerman (drums); Ed Mann (percussion). Digitally remastered by Bob Stone (1991). SHIP ARRIVING turned out to be Zappa's highest charting and most popular album of the '80s (its title is based on the album's cover artwork--a drawing by '50s artist Roger Price). The record's unexpected commercial success was due to the inclusion of the popular novelty song "Valley Girl," which featured Zappa's then-teenage daughter, Moon Unit, doingher best impersonation of a spoiled and obnoxious youngster. Besides "Valley Girl," the rest of SHIP ARRIVING TOO LATE TO SAVE A DROWNING WITCH is comprised of five tunes that are more representative of Zappa's usual work. The album's closer, "Teen-Age Prostitute," is the perfect example of how Zappa constantly tried to push musical boundaries--the music is heavy metal accompanied by a female opera singer (Lisa Popiel) with xylophone added in for good measure! Other intriguing tracks include the transcendent "Drowning Witch," a melodic instrumental entitled "Envelopes," and "I Come From Nowhere," which merges funk with tough hard rock. Although some Zappa fans have complained that the album is too short (when compared to his other lengthy recordings), SHIP ARRIVING TOO LATE TO SAVE A DROWNING WITCH certainly has its moments. I Guess Sometimes I Need To Be Reminded Of How Much You Love me
Full title: I Guess Sometimes I Need To Be Reminded Of How Much You Love Me. Magnetophone: Matt Saunders, John Hanson. After a number of limited edition cassettes and vinyl releases, Magnetophone made the move to the influential independent label 4AD for their debut album, the awkwardly titled I GUESS SOMETIMES I NEED TO BE REMINDED OF HOW MUCH YOU LOVE. Performed in part on homemade keyboards, the album is a genuinely strange product, mixing elements from early electronics pioneers like Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, and Jean Michel Jarre (especially his OXYGENE album) with freaked-out, paranoid clattering drums, bursts of heavily distorted guitars, and pretty synth melodies. Standouts include "Oh Darlin'," which is full of sudden stops and starts and includes the album's only vocals (though they'reso distorted as to be unintelligible), and "Californium," which suggests nothing so much as a demented circus anthem. "Air Methods" begins with an oddly tense but sedate tone, before introducing massive guitar riffs that become more and more disjointed and threatening as the track progresses, while "Love Needs You" incorporates intentional CD skips and jagged pulses into a sweet, swirling melody. Touch Of Platinum Vol.1, A (A Life In Music)
A TOUCH OF PLATINUM is a 2-CD set of 44 tracks culled from the box set PLATINUM: A LIFE IN MUSIC. Personnel includes: Elvis Presley (vocals); The Jordanaires, Millie Kirkham, The Imperials Quartet, June Page, Dolores Edgin (background vocals); Scotty Moore, Bill Black, D.J. Fontana, Chet Atkins, Floyd Cramer, Shorty Long, Marvin Hughes, Hilmer "Tiny" Timbrell, Dudley Brooks, Bob Moore, Hank Garland, Buddy Harman, Boots Randolph, Ray Siegel, Hal Blaine, Harold Bradley, Grady Martin, Berbie Mattinson, Barney Kessel, Emil Richards, Charlie McCoy, Pete Drake, Chip Young, Henry Slaughter, Jerry Reed, Charlie Hodge, The King Creole Brass Section. Compilation producers: Ernst Mikael Jorgensen, Roger Semon. Engineers include: Sam Phillips, Thorne Nogar, Bill Porter. Youprobably think you've heard all there is to hear from The King, what with countless Elvis retrospectives, anthologies and reissues flooding the market. While PLATINUM: A LIFE IN MUSIC is far from the first Elvis box, it's unique in that it's composed largely of previously unreleased material. Four discs cover every phase of Presley's career, from young Memphis hip-shaker to middle-aged Vegas hip-shaker, adding a fresh perspective to each period. For the budget-conscious, this two-discer is a solid condensation of that project, the other half of the material being released on a companion volume. It's both an education and a kick to hear alternate versions of Elvis songs already ingrained in the public consciousness. Other, more obscure delights update one of rock & roll's most stellar legacies, proving that even the most zealous Elvis fan hasn't heard the whole story yet. SKU: 1014083

'Return To Central' is the third album from Scottish trio Bis. After parting company with record labels Wiiija and Grand Royal, 'Return To Central' sees Bis move their soundforward by opting for a more techno/pop/new wave mix, than the brash disco punk of their earlier recordings. SKU: 1067768
