Got Live If You Want It [SACD] [Remastered]
This is a Hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both Super Audio and regular CD players. The Rolling Stones: Mick Jagger (vocals); Brian Jones, Keith Richards (guitar, background vocals); Bill Wyman (bass); Charlie Watts (drums). Recorded live at the RoyalAlbert Hall, London, England on September 23, 1966. By 1966 the Stones were becoming both more progressive in their conception and more adept in their musicianship. Though the studio recordings from this golden period are impeccable, nowhere is that growth more evident than on GOT LIVE IF YOU WANT IT. Recorded by Glyn Johns at London's Royal Albert Hall, this album shows the Stones as a powerful live unit, now capable of subtle emotional shadings as well as rock & roll raveups. The Stones pay homage to their roots with a version of "Not Fade Away" that easily rivals its studio cousin. But it's at the point where the Stones' musical trajectory veers off from the blues that things get really interesting. From the ominous "Under My Thumb" to the Elizabethan "Lady Jane" and the transcendent, Dylan-influenced "19th Nervous Breakdown," the band shows off its musical sophistication both compositionally and in spirited performances. An essential live document of one of the band's finest hours. SKU: 1076777

Unwrapped (+DVD)
Personnel includes: Gloria Estefan (vocals); Chrissie Hynde (vocals, guitar); Stevie Wonder (vocals, harmonica); Dan Warner (guitar, tres, mandolin); Alfredo Oliva, Tim Barnes (violin); Judith Mora-Arriaga (accordion); Ron Taylor (piano, Wurlitzer piano, Fender Rhodes piano, Hammond B-3 organ); Arthur Hanlon (piano); Luis Angel (bass); Luis Enrique, Edwin Bonilla, Archie Pena (percussion); Sebastion Krys (programming); Jon Secada, Maceo Morris (background vocals). Recorded at Crescent Moon Studio, The Hit Factory Criteria, The Warehouse Studios, Miami, Florida. For her first English-language album in five years (coinciding with her 46th birthday), Gloria Estefan uses UNWRAPPED asa project where her creative energies go towards material with more of a sophisticated, singer-songwriter sheen a la Sting, and away from the dance-pop fare she's better known for. Like the aforementioned Gordon Sumner, this Cuban-born chanteuse does a fine job mixing in a wide range of genres, from the hint of Brazilian rhythms and an unusual use of mandolin in "Te Amare" to the reggae flourishes dancing around the fringes of "You." Always known as a balladeer, Estefan doesn't disappoint as she tucks into aural bon-bons like the lush, Elton John-like "I Wish You" and the autobiographical "Famous," with its insight into the world inhabited by this Latin diva. She also cooks up collaborations with Stevie Wonder, whose vocals and harmonica-playing grace the spry "Into You," and Pretenders vocalist/guitarist Chrissie Hynde, whose distinctive vocals can be heard on the Ottmar Liebert-flavored "One Name." With UNWRAPPED, Gloria Estefan reveals another side of her musical personality only hinted at on prior Spanish-language and pop excursions. SKU: 1087040

Lovehatetragedy (Clean Version)
On the follow-up to their major label debut Infest, Papa Roach expands the parameters of the aggro-rock blueprint they've drawn up by consciously putting their more overt hip-hop influences to the side. Writing most of LOVEHATETRAGEDY on the road while touring as part of Ozzfest 2001 gave main lyricist/vocalist Jacoby Shaddix (the artist formerly known as Coby Dick) plenty of time to reflect over relationships with his band, significant other, himself, and the world. Pouring his energies into singing rather than rapping (with the exception of the groove-driven "She Love Me Not"), Shaddix addresses depression (the murky "Black Clouds"), the enormity of 9/11 (the melodic title track) and existentialism (thethunderous "Life Is A Bullet"). Papa Roach delivers a Phillip K. Dick-flavored cyber-tale derived from a conversation with Slipknot's DJ (the sinister, RATM-like "Singular Indestructible Droid") and even gives props to Shaddix's recently deceased dog (the pounding "Time And Time Again"). Best of all are a pair of bonus cuts that include a simmering cover of The Pixies' "Gouge Away" sure to put a smile on Frank Black's face. SKU: 1073281

Remember Shakti
Personnel: John McLaughlin (guitar); Hariprasad Chaurasia (bansuri); T.H. "Vikku" Vinayakram (ghatam); Zakir Hussain (tabla). Recorded live at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham, England on September 24, 1997; Royal Festival Hall, London, England on September 25, 1997; Symphony Hall, Birmingham, England on September 26, 1997; TurnerSims Concert Hall, Southampton, England on September 27, 1997. These collaborations between guitarist John McLaughlin and Shakti, a collective of Indian and Pakistani musicians, is one of the more interesting and successful East-meets-West experiments. Since the early '70s, McLaughlin and the members of Shakti have been working together off and on, in various combinations, with the guitarist integrating his electrified Gibson soloing into the musicians' indigenous sonic atmospheres. In 1997, McLaughlin joined tabla player Kakir Hussain and ghatam player T.H. Vinayakram for a tour of the U.K. The results are recorded on this two-disc set. The group is also graced by the presence of bansuri master Hariprasad Chaurasia, whose gorgeous composition "Chandrakauns" opens the program and is arguably the highlight. Elsewhere, extended improvisations ("Mukti" is over an hour long) shift between intense rhythmic interplay and ethereal instrumental journeying. Taken as a whole, the sounds of REMEMBER SHAKTI are intriguing, meditative, and often startlingly beautiful. SKU: 1003799

Gladiator Vol.1
Original score composed by Hans Zimmer andLisa Gerrard. GLADIATOR was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. The combination of the prolific Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard is an ingenious one. He's set lush musical backgrounds to everything from comedies (I'LL DO ANYTHING), to period pieces (DRIVING MISS DAISY), to blockbuster war flicks (THE THIN RED LINE); she's one of the duo comprising Dead Can Dance, perhaps the most singular popularizers of ancient music of the '80s and '90s. Zimmer and Gerrard contribute a thrilling, boisterous score. These stirring, magnificent pieces are vital to such epics as GLADIATOR, which depend on them to rouse audiences into fits of passion, to suck them into the action, to involve them in every bloody battle, to bask in the hero's triumphs, to gasp at his possible defeat. The music in GLADIATOR expertly evokes an ancient time with a mixture of majestic, classical themes, and folk music of the ages. Fans of the movie will revel in reliving the grandeur of this powerful cinematic production. SKU: 1033626

Young And The Hopeless, The [ECD]
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Good Charlotte: Joel, Benji, Paul, Billy. Recorded at Barefoot Studios, Los Angeles, California. For its second outing THE YOUNG AND THE HOPELESS, Good Charlotte gives any notion of a sophomore jinx a combat boot to the side of the head thanks to an abundance of chanting choruses and choppy guitar riffs. Like standard-bearers Blink-182, this Maryland quartet frolics in a land of teen angst peppered with snarky optimism that comes across best within the margins of the rebellious "Anthem," rambunctious "Riot Girl" (no doubt a cousin of the Dead Milkmen's "Punk Rock Girl"), and Green Day-flavored title cut. Balancing out rambunctious fare like the Iggy Pop-inspired "Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous" and the chuggin "Movin' On" is such tasty fare as the soul-baring "Emotionless" and Social Distortion-like "The Day I Die." With THEYOUNG AND THE HOPELESS, Good Charlotte takes the next step towards pop-punk world domination. SKU: 1079610

Scraps At Midnight
Personnel: Mark Lanegan, Liz Burns (vocals); Mike Stinette (saxophone); Terry Yohn (harmonica); J Mascis (piano); Phil Sparks (acoustic bass); Tad Doyle (drums); Mike Johnson, Paul Solger Dana, Keni Richards, Dave Catching, Fred Drake. Engineers: John Burton, John Agnello, Terry Date, Jack Endino. The third solo album from Screaming Trees singer Lanegan can be seen as the final component of a thematic trilogy. Lanegan's quiet, reflective solo work has always been at odds with the music of the Trees (and dare we say, more interesting). SCRAPS AT MIDNIGHT is no exception; continuing the thread begun on 1990's THE WINDING SHEET, Lanegan offers up another batch of ominous, acoustic-based, soul-searching tunes. While SCRAPS is anythingbut retro, it has a timeless quality, bearing faint echoes of equally disconsolate troubadours like Astral Weeks-era Van Morrison, Tim Hardin and Fred Neil. Moody, stirring, often unsettling, SCRAPS is a logical artistic progression from Lanegan's previous work. SKU: 6548914

Faculty, The
Compilation producers: Glen Brunmann, John Kalooner. The cinematic realization of every high school student's secret fear, THE FACULTY presents a school full of evil, (literally) inhuman teachers who terrorize their young charges. Accordingly, the soundtrack plays off the teacher-student conflict that's been a rock & roll staple since time immemorial. An ad hoc supergroup including Layne Staley and Stephen Perkins ominously updates Pink Floyd's education nightmare "Another Brick in the Wall." Two Alice Cooper classics, "I'm Eighteen" and (naturally) "School's Out" are resurrected by Creed and Soul Asylum respectively. A poppier vein is mined by Garbage ("Medication") and Sheryl Crow ("Resuscitation"). A highlight is Oasis' typically anthemic"Stay Young," which offers a ray of hope amid the sonic darkness. Hits, The
REO Speedwagon includes: Kevin Cronin (vocals, guitar); Gary Richrath (guitar); Neal Doughty (keyboards, synthesizer); Bruce Hall (bass); Alan Gratzer (drums). Additional personnel includes: Eric Persing (synthesizer, programming); Tommy Funderburk (background vocals). Producers include: Keith Olsen, Kevin Cronin, Gary Richrath, Paul Grupp, Kevin Beamish. Reissue producer: Al Quaglieri. Recorded between January 1976 & April 1988. Includes liner notes by Malcolm Dome. All tracks have been digitally remastered. Like Journey and Styx, REO Speedwagon was a '70s rock band that scored its biggest hits with radio-friendly rock and lovesick power ballads during the early '80s. Rock dudes could easily identify with guitarist Gary Richrath's crunchy power chords, while the girls could find solace in singer Kevin Cronin's delicate tales of the ups and downs of love. On the 1988 compilation THE HITS, the best of REOSpeedwagon's both worlds are featured--rocking standouts like "Ridin' the Storm Out" and "Roll with the Changes," as well as such softer fare as "Keep on Lovin' You" and "Can't Fight This Feeling." Although one of their biggest hits, "Keep the Fire Burnin'," is strangely absent, THE HITS is by and large a well-assembled collection of REO's biggest hits. SKU: 1011668
