Momentary Lapse Of Reason, A
Available on Mini Disc on Columbia (40599). NOTES: Pink Floyd: David Gilmour (guitar, vocals, keyboards, programming); Richard Wright (piano, vocals, Kurzweil, Hammond organ); Nick Mason (electric & acoustic drums, sound effects). Additional personnel: Michael Landau (guitar); Tom Scott (alto & tenor saxophones); Scott Page (tenor saxophone); John Halliwell (saxophone); Bob Ezrin (keyboards, percussion, programming); Jon Carin (keyboards); Bill Payne (Hammond organ); Pat Leonard (synthesizers); Tony Levin (bass); Jim Keltner, Carmine Appice (drums); Steve Forman (percussion); Andrew Jackson (sound effects); Darlene Koldenhaven, Carmen Twillie, Phyllis St. James, Donnie Gerrard (background vocals). Recorded at Astoria, Hampton; Britannia Row Studios, London, England; A & M Studios, Los Angeles, California; Can Am Studios, Los Angeles, California; Village Recorder, Los Angeles, California; Mayfair, London, England; and Audio International, London, England. All tracks have been digitally remastered. After a long protracted legal battle over the rights to the Pink Floyd name, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright released 1987's A MOMENTARY LAPSE OF REASON despite Roger Waters' protests. Retaining collaborators from Floyd'spast (producer Bob Ezrin), this Gilmour-led version of the band crafted a number of songs that were as cerebral and introspective as anything Floyd had done in the past. The first single, "Learning To Fly," served as the unofficial anthem for this latest chapter of Pink Floyd. The Andy McKay/Gilmour-penned "One Slip" uses the requisite bells and whistles along with Tony Levin's impressive stick solo to guarantee it a prominent place in the band's canon. "The Dogs of War" and "On The Turning Away" are perfect commentaries on the conservative mindset shaping the '80s at the time. The former is an ominous screed composed at a time when the Cold War was still a reality whereas the latter is a sad swipe against the self-absorption of the Me Decade. SKU: 1005602

Lord Willin' [ECD] [PA]
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracls and multimedia computer files. The Clipse: Malice, Pusha T. Additional personnel includes: Ab-Liva, Roscoe P. Goldchain, Fabolous, Faith Evans, Jadakiss, Styles, Jermaine Dupri. Recorded at MasterSound Studios, Windmark Studios, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Though Virginia's most well known hip-hop exports may have been Timbaland and Missy Elliot, the release of Clipse's debut album introduces a pair of new players to that hegemony. In fact, brothers Gene and Terrence Thornton (Malice and Pusha T, respectively) were born in that cradle of hip-hop the Bronx, but they spent their formative years on the streets of Virginia. LORD WILLIN' is the duo's second try at a debut album, as their previous effort for another label was indefinitely shelved. Turns out it was worth the wait. Produced by none other than the super-hot Neptunes, every track here pulsates with a crisp, funky energy that fully matches the sharply honed rhymes of the Thornton brothers, most spectacularly of all on the autobiographical "Young Boy," which ispowered by one of the hardest-hitting grooves in recent memory. Suspicious Minds
Personnel includes: Elvis Presley (vocals, piano); Tommy Cogbill (guitar, bass); Reggie Young (guitar); John Hughey (steel guitar); Ed Kollis (harmonica); Jackie Thomas (saxophone, trombone); Andrew Lowe, Glen Spreen, J.P. Luper (saxophone); R.F. Taylor, Wayne Jackson, Dick Steff (trumpet); Jack Hale, Ed Logan, Gerald Richardson (trombone); K. Adkins (bass trombone); Tony Cason, Joe D'Gerolamo (French horn); Bobby Wood (piano): Bobby Emmons (organ); Mike Leech (bass); Gene Chrisman (drums); Joe Babcock, Dolores Edgin, Mary Greene, Millie Kirkham (background vocals). Producers: Chips Moman, Felton Jarvis. Compilation producers: Ernst Mikael Jorgensen, Roger Semon. Recorded at American Studios, Memphis, Tennessee from January 13-16 & 20-23 and February 17-22, 1969. Includes liner notes by Peter Guralnick. By the late 1990s, Elvis fans had plenty of reason to bear suspicious minds regarding posthumous Presley collections, the barrel being seemingly scraped dry yearsearlier. Such reservations are put to rest by even a cursory listen to SUSPICIOUS MINDS. The two-disc collection captures the period just after Elvis' famous "'68 comeback." He was rediscovering his roots and getting gloriously gritty and funky. It would be the king's last hurrah before descending into Vegas showbiz glitz. These 1969 recordings were all made in Memphis under the sure hand of producer Chips Moman and his eminently soulful Muscle Shoals cohorts. Elvis takes on everything from country ("From a Jack to a King") to churning, gutsy R&B ("Power of My Love") with abandon. Even those already familiar with this material will find reason to cheer in the inclusion of several previously unreleased alternate takes. SKU: 1001201

Dangerously In Love
This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Contains a hidden track following "Gift From Virgo". Personnel: Beyonce Knowles, Luther Vandross, Sean Paul (vocals); Jay-Z, Big Boi, Missy Elliot, Sleepy Brown (rap vocals); Nat Adderley, Jr. (arranger, electric piano); Skip Anderson (arranger, keyboards, programming); Focus, Rich Harrison (various instruments); Dan Workman, Phil Hamilton, John "Jab" Brousard (guitar); Byron Miller (bass); Ivan Hampden (drums); Bashiri Johnson (percussion); Cissy Houston, Tawatha Agee, Brenda White-King, Candace Thomas (background vocals). Producers include: Beyonce Knowles, Rich Harrison, Scott Storch, Focus, Bryce Wilson. Besides deft, pitch-perfect hit songs, the talented, if volatile, Destiny's Child was remarkable for its unpredictability, not always a defining characteristic of mainstream R&B. While there was certainly a formula at play in the songs, the structure was subtly unstable, never following standard progressions. Yet most of their singles flew to the top of both the pop and R&B charts. While DC was generally a collective, Beyonce Knowles clearly emerged as the most high-profile member, even before major turns on the big screen, signaling anticipation for her debut album DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE. Beyonce's opening salvo should disappoint neither her fans nor the general public, as it features skillful songwriting balancing innovation and abundant hooks. DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE starts with a flourish, as the omnipresent Jay-Z brashly introduces the feverishly catchy, brass-fueled dance cut "Crazy In Love," followed by three more lush club-bangers, including a typically inviting guest toast by Sean Paul and some tongue-twisters from Outkast's Big Boi. From there, the soulstress shifts into ballad mode, the starkest moment coming with "Yes," beautifully reminiscent of the DC sound. On DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE, Beyonce both remains true to her past success while forging intriguing new ground. SKU: 1084179

Ingenue
Personnel includes: K.D. Lang (vocals); Gary Burton (vibraphone). Producers: Greg Penny, Ben Mink, K.D. Lang. K.D. Lang's performance of the song "MissChatelaine" was nominated for a 1994 Grammy Award as "Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female." After many incarnations and adventurous forays into progressive musical territories, on INGENUE k.d. Lang finally found an artistic persona she was comfortable with: The Chanteuse. k.d. is a vocalist of an unparalleled depth in contemporary music. Adept at phrasing and actual vocalizing, Lang's palette ranges from the subtle to the bold--always on key, on the edge, and in control. INGENUE displays a subdued k.d. Lang; a powerhouse singer who reins in potential histrionics and sings in a full, dynamic voice. Her job here is to sing, and tell the stories she needs to tell. INGENUE coincided with lang making her personal life a public issue, and the songs on the album all reveal an inner turmoil. On "The Mind Of Love," Kathryn Dawn Lang sings "Talking to myself, causing great concern for my health, where is your head Kathryn, where is your head?" Most songs deal with love, whether it has been won ("Still Thrives This Love"), lost ("Season Of Hollow Soul"), in full lust ("Wash Me Clean"), or unspoken (the Joni Mitchell-ish "Outside Myself"). The album isn't all heavy-handed examinations, though; there's the peppy nouveau-cabaret "Miss Chatelaine," and the award-winning track that sums it all up, "Constant Craving." An album to savor, INGENUE presents a mature picture of a woman's world of longing and desire, and k.d. lang expresses it in a clear, powerful, well-defined and well-controlled voice. SKU: 1003657

Statement
Nonpoint: Elias Soriano (vocals); Andrew Goldman (guitar, background vocals); KB (bass); Robb Rivera (drums). Recorded at Elysian Studios, Boca Raton, Florida. Before you dismiss them as just another heavy rock band, take a close listen to Nonpoint's debut album STATEMENT. Sure, there are snarling vocals, pulsing basslines, pounding drums, and savage guitar riffs aplenty, but there's more to Nonpoint's sound than that. For one thing, their attack is tightly controlled with a razor-like precision that brings to mind the thinking man's metal of bands like Helmet. For another, the subtle rhythmic shifts with which Nonpoint varies its full-frontal assault points to a finely-nuanced understanding of counterpoint and compound tempos. The band's lyrics are several steps ahead of the usual hard rock pack, too, displaying a thematic sense and syntactical finesse that shows up lesser metal outfits for the brainless clods they are. Of course, you don't have to dig deeply into STATEMENT to getinto its visceral, raging sound. But if you do, you won't come up empty-handed. SKU: 1048424

Live At The Lighthouse
Personnel: Grant Green (guitar); Claude Bartee (soprano & tenor saxophones); Gary Coleman (vibraphone); Shelton Laster (organ); Wilton Felder (electric bass); Greg Williams (drums); Bobbye Porter Hall (congas, percussion). Producer: George Butler. Reissue producer: Bob Belden. Recorded live at The Lighthouse, Hermosa Beach, California on April 21, 1972. Includes liner notes by Bob Belden and Hank Stewart. Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by Ron McMaster. Of all of Grant Green's late-period performances, LIVE AT THE LIGHTHOUSE was arguably the most magical. By 1972 Green was deep into his final funky period of performing extended James Brown-inflected pop material. Here, at the most famous of West Coast jazz venues, the music exploded off the stage for an appreciative audience. Backed by a large group that included Wilton Felder on electric bass, the burning saxophonist Claude Bartee, and female percussionist Bobbye Hall, Green was on fire, ripping out one blistering solo after another. In his opening remarks, emcee Hank Stewart announces that they are there to "create love through the medium of music." This is a prophetic statement, as Green was clearly a master of expression through his instrument. Though he was often criticized for performing less-than-traditional material, Grant Green transcended style, producing highly musical performances out ofworks like the pop song "Betcha By Golly Wow." Also included are Donald Byrd's flowing "Fancy Free" and the fiery epic "Jan Jan." Next to being there on that magical occasion, this disc fully realizes for the listener Green performing at his best, even at a time when it seemed his best glory was behind him. SKU: 1002500

Making Bones
Red Snapper includes: Alison David, MC Det (vocals); David Ayers(guitar); Byron Wallen (trumpet); Jez Friend (trombone); Ali Friend (acoustic bass); Richard Thair (drums). Additional personnel: Jacqueline Norrie (violin); Brian Wright (viola); Nadia Lanman (cello). Red Snapper blurs the boundaries between rap, electronica and R&B effortlessly throughout MAKING BONES. Slippery acoustic bass lines scamper across breakbeats as well as live, often jazzy drumming. Fluid guitar lines mesh with orchestral synth patches, coloring groove-oriented tracks that shift between high-energy hip-hop and sultry, trip-hoppy soul (depending on whether its Alison David or rapper MC Det taking a turn at the mic). Deftly placed samples, synth gurgles and languid, muted horn lines come and go over the top of these rhythm-centered sonic concoctions. However, all these disparate elements mesh into a whole that is both engrossing and invigorating. It's this gestalt that makes MAKING BONES a success on its own terms. SKU: 1001547

Copperhead Road
Steve Earle is one of the hip new stars who have given new country music acceptance with non-honky tonkers. Earle is a renegade who has been married almost as many times as the number of albums he has released. His songs are new country-Springsteen and he is not frightened to rock. The Pogues give great support to this memorable album. His career has faltered commercially since this release as his music has taken on a harder edge. The title track is a highlight, featuring some fine mandolin over an infectious beat; similar fare is "You Belong To Me" and"Back To The Wall." Country purists may balk, but this album is destined to last. Earle is the Lemmy Motorhead of new country SKU: 1002686

Dream
Personnel: Jimmy Scott (vocals); James W. "Red" Holloway, Claston Patience Higgins (saxophone); Milt Jackson (vibraphone); Junior Mance (piano); Mitchell Froom (organ); Rick Zunigar (guitar); Ron Carter (bass); Peyton Crossley (drums). Recorded at RPM Studios, New York on February 14-16, 1994. DREAM was the second album released during Jimmy Scott's '90s reemergence. He's backed by a stellar quartet of Junior Mance on piano, Ron Carter on bass, Peyton Crossley on drums, and Milt Jackson on vibes. There are also a few guest appearances by saxophonists and guitarists, and producer Mitchell Froom contributes organ to the bluesy "You Don't Miss the Water." Scott was in his 70s at the time of this release, and though his voice has all the verve and passion that's always been a part of his singing, there's also an additional grace, confidence, and spiritual glow to it. Scott's vocal swoops and turns never seem like mere filigree and are always bound up in the emotional core of each song. A warmth and intimacy envelops every song on this beautifully recorded collection. The bass in particular has a woody resonance that's positively gorgeous. SKU: 1003793

Give My Regards To Broad Street (Original Soundtrack)
Personnel includes: Paul McCartney (vocals, acoustic guitar, piano, electric harpsichord, bass); Eric Stewart (vocals, guitar); Linda McCartney (vocals, keyboards); David Gilmour, Steve Luthaker, Eric Ford (guitar); Pat Halling, Laurie Lewis, Raymond Keenlyside, Tony Gilbert (violin); Derek Grossmith (clarinet, alto saxophone);Eddie Mordue (clarinet, tenor saxophone); Vic Ash (tenor saxophone); Ronnie Hughs, Bobby Haughey (trumpet); Chris Smith (trombone); Jeff Bryant (French horn); George Martin (piano); Gerry Butler, Trevor Barstow (keyboards); Anne Dudley (synthesizer); Russ Stableford (acoustic bass); Herbie Flowers, Louis Johnson, John Paul Jones (bass); John Dean (drums, percussion); Jeff Porcaro, Dave Mattacks (drums); Jody Linscott (percussion); Dave Edmunds, Chris Spedding, Ringo Starr. Recorded in England in 1984. GIVE MY REGARDS TO BROADSTREET was a 1984 musical adventure film that was loosely based on a day in the life of Paul McCartney. While the film was a spectacular flop and perhaps the most embarrassing project that McCartney has ever been involved with, GIVE MY REGARDS TO BROADSTREET's soundtrack album features some exceptionally good music. The album opens with "No More Lonely Nights," a haunting, bittersweet ballad that is one of McCartney's best. Backed by a hard-hitting band that includes Ringo Starr on drums and guitarists Chris Spedding and Dave Edmunds, McCartney also gets a chance to cut loose on several raunchy rockers ("Not Such A Bad Boy" and "No Values") that prove that McCartney had not lost his ability to create raw, back-to-basics rock and roll. While McCartney's remakes of Beatles songs like "The Long And Winding Road" and "Eleanor Rigby" (and a bizarre remake of the Wings hit "Silly Love Songs") do not improve on the originals, his heartfelt, spirited performances of these classic songs help make GIVE MY REGARDS TO BROADSTREET one of McCartney's best albums of the eighties. Winter In Lisbon, The
Personnel include: Dizzy Gillespie (trumpet); Leola Jiles (vocals); Mario Rivera (flute, soprano saxophone); Tony Kadleck (trumpet); Danilo Perez (piano); George Mraz (double bass); Grady Tate (drums). Recording information: The Power Station, New York, New York (08/1990). In 1990 Dizzy Gillespie recorded the soundtrack for and starred in a film called THE WINTER IN LISBON. Though the film was never distributed, the soundtrack remains, and was issued on CD in 2004. Featuring a 13-piece orchestra including pianist Danielo Perez, drummer Grady Tate, and saxophonist Mario Rivera, THE WINTER IN LISBON features all Gillespie originals arranged and conducted by the great Slide Hampton. Though there is a fair bit of swinging, bop-inflected jazz, some of the music is quite cinematic, especially the lovely "Lucretia's Theme," a solopiano spot for Perez, and the languorous "Magic Summer" with its vocal by Leola Jiles. Gillespie plays lead throughout, and while his chops naturally can't compare with his work from the '40s and '50s, it is still a pleasure to hear him. THE WINTER IN LISBON will be of particular interest to collectors and to those interested in seeing what Gillespie was up to in the latter stages of his career. SKU: 6567624

Manhattan Transfer
Manhattan Transfer: Tim Hauser, Laurel Masse, Janis Siegel, Alan Paul (vocals). This first album by the re-formed Manhattan Transfer was successful due to their unique approach to combining pop with swing and jazz. Their approach to old jazz standards distinguished them not as an "oldies" group, but as a group with fresh ideas and a rare love for vocals. In a popular music culture of simple harmonies, their tight four-part vocals stood out. The first formation of Manhattan Transfer was an instrumental/vocal group. After Tim Hauser's departure and the group's dissolution, Hauser reclaimed the name with entirely different personnel. In pursuit of the swing jazz group Hauser had wanted the first Manhattan Transfer to be, he was careful in the directions the new group chose. The gigs he accepted were selective, the conventional jobs he had to work to fund the group numerous. (As a cab driver, Hauser had met Masse & Siegel.) The ManhattanTransfer worked together for three years before Ahmet Ertegun of Atlantic signed them up to record MANHATTAN TRANSFER. SKU: 1009336

Funk Odyssey, A
Jamiroquai: Jay Kay (vocals); Rob Harris (guitar); Toby Smith (keyboards); Nick Fyffe (bass); Derrick McKenzie (drums); Sola Akingbola (percussion). Additional personnel:Paul Stoney (programming). The indifferent welcome accorded 1999's SYNCHRONIZED may have thrown British funk outfit Jamiroquai off following the smashing success of 1997'S TRAVELLING WITHOUT MOVING, but the British funk outfit rebounded nicely with 2001's introspective and invigorating A FUNK ODYSSEY. Frontman Jay Kay continues to sound like Stevie Wonder's long-lost son as he mixes in the bossa nova-influenced "Picture Of My Life" with harder-driving fare like the theme-song-looking-for-a-blaxploitation-movie "Main Event." Stretching out, Jamiroquai also includes other introspective excursions like the folk-tinged "Black Crow" as well as the beautifully spiritual "Corner Of The Earth." Longtime fans need not fear, as moving people's feet remains a big part of the equation, whether it's the Kraftwerk-style breaks of "2001," the infectious house vibe of the first single "Little L," or the bottom-heavy bang of "You Give Me Something." The combination of carefully penned lyrics and unrelenting grooves makes Jamiroquai one of the few contemporary groups cleaving to the P-Funk mantra that if you free your mind, your ass will follow. Tears Of Stone
The Chieftains: Martin Fay, Sean Keane (fiddle); Derek Bell (harp, keyboard, tiompan); Matt Molloy (flute); Paddy Maloney (tin whistle, Uillean pipes); Kevin Conneff (bodhran). Additional personnel includes: Bonnie Raitt (vocals, dobro); Brenda Fricker, The Rankins, Natalie Merchant, Joni Mitchell, Sinead O'Connor, Mary-Chapin Carpenter, Loreena McKennitt, Joan Osborne, Akiko Yano, Sissel, Diana Krall (vocals); Eric Della Penna (guitar); Annborg Lien, Eileen Ivers, Natalie MacMaster (fiddle); Mairtin O'Connor (accordion); Patrick Fitzpatrick (keyboards); Hutch Hutchinson (bass); The Screaming Orphans, Anuna (background vocals); Maire Breatnach, The Rankins, The Corrs. Engineers include: Jeffrey Lesser, Brian Masterson, Takahiro Nochimura. Includes liner notes by Paddy Moloney. The Chieftains have always worked in their own carefully defined middle ground between pop crossovers like Clannad and rigid, inflexible traditionalists. Maybe that's why they're one of the longest-lived and best-loved groups in all of Irish music. They never lose touch with tradition, but as past recordings have proven, they're not afraid to work with artists from different musical worlds. TEARS OF STONE is an album of collaborations with pop artists on original tunes (Joni Mitchell sings on a version of her own "Magdalene Laundries") and traditional ones (Bonnie Raitt proves an excellent folk balladeer on "A Stor MoChroi"). Bluesy American siren Joan Osborne's take on "Raglan Road" may not equal the version Van Morrison once recorded with the Chieftains, but what could? Countrywoman Sinead O'Connor puts in a particularly strong appearance on the traditional ballad "Factory Girl." SKU: 1003552

Mirage
Fleetwood Mac: Lindsey Buckingham (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Christine McVie (vocals, keyboards); Stevie Nicks (vocals); John McVie (bass); Mick Fleetwood (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Ray Lindsey (guitar). Producers: Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey Buckingham, Richard Dashut, Ken Caillat. Recorded at Le Chateau, Herouville, France; Larrabee Sound & The Record Plant, Los Angeles, California. After the 1979 release of the precocious but misunderstood double album TUSK, which fell disappointingly below the mind-blowing sales of 1977's multi-platinum RUMOURS, the band decided to take a safer route for their next release. In sunny contrast to the melancholy introspection of TUSK, 1982's MIRAGE returned the band to bright melodies and hit single material. The advent of MTV led the band to release two artistic videos in conjunction with the record, the Magritte-inspired desert fantasy of "Hold Me," Christine McVie's lush, pleading love song, and the handsome, Depression-era daydream of "Gypsy," one of Nicks' prettiest signature tunes. The jangling bonhomie of MIRAGE evenaffects Buckingham's darker songs; though lyrically heartbroken, on "Book of Love" Buckingham sounds almost cheerful. His husky "Empire State" is a love-giddy ode to New York. Nicks' "Straight Back" feels spiritually tied to the duskier tone of her 1981 solo album BELLADONNA, and the mistress of the moon even tries her hand at country with the twanging lope of "That's Alright." Christine McVie's shimmering ballad "Only Over You" is one of MIRAGE's strongest tracks. Though not one of Fleetwood Mac's legendary albums, MIRAGE is still strong when held against the fierce competition of the band's exceptional catalogue. SKU: 1002106

By Your Side
The Black Crowes: Chris Robinson (vocals); Rich Robinson (guitar); Eddie Harsch (keyboards); Sven Pipien (bass); Steve Gorman (drums). Additional personnel: Dirty Dozen Brass Band (horns); Zoe Thrall (flute); Curtis King, Cindy Mizelle, Tawatha Agee, Brenda White King, Vanees Thomas (background vocals). Recorded at Avatar Studios, New York, New York. In the three years since their last album, the Black Crowes either lost or fired band members, got sued, switched labels and saw marriages break-up. Rather than be cowered by these obstacles, the band regrouped and put out an album bristling with energy and soaked in sturdy riffs and passionate singing. With the Crowes reduced to a quintet for the recording of BY YOUR SIDE, Rich Robinson played all lead and rhythm guitar for the first time and particularly shone on the sassy funk of "Heavy" and the slide-happy "Kicking My Heart Around." The female back-up singers, fat guitar tone and Chris Robinson's raspy singing turned the title track into the kind of solid rock & roll that Rod Stewart used to churn out effortlessly early in his career. Although the wah-wah drenched "HorseHead" is a heavy stomper of a song, the Crowes got wistful on "Welcome To The Goodtimes" and churned out Curtis Mayfield-flavored soul with "Go Tell The Congregation." Keyboardist Eddie Harsch remained the band's unsunghero as his liberal doses of Hammond organ and electric piano seasoned songs such as the rollicking "Then She Said My Name" and the psychedelic-flavored sanctity of "Virtue And Vice." Hardcore
Personnel includes: Lil' Kim, Jay-Z, Junior M.A.F.I.A., The Notorious B.I.G., Adilah (vocals); LaMarquis Jefferson (bass); Fela. Producers include: Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs, Stevie J., Ski, The Notorious B.I.G., Cornbread, Stretch Armstrong, Prestige, Jermaine Dupri. Engineers include: Kenny Ortiz, Jermaine Dupri, Tony Black, Phil Tan. Principally recorded at The Hit Factory, New York, New York. "Not Tonight" was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance By ADuo Or Group. While male rappers like the Notorious B.I.G. and Snoop Doggy Dogg are praised for kickin' that hard-core hip-hop and keepin' it real, female MCs who talk dirty or otherwise try to represent from that same lifestyle are usually criticized for it. Double standard maybe? Well, if Too Short can talk about pimpin' and Kool G. Rap can get props for gangsta-fied lyrics, it's high time a rapper like Lil' Kim got hers. As the only female member of Junior M.A.F.I.A., Lil' Kim named herself the Lieutenant, and stole the show on that band's 1995 debut album, CONSPIRACY. Lyrically, there is no doubt she's talented, but it's her rhymin' delivery that clinches things on HARD CORE. Often reminiscent of the classic album READY TO DIE by her mentor the Notorious B.I.G., the production on every track is phat, and earns Lil' Kim her crown as the new queen of hard-core rap.
